Lulz....ISU fans already breaking out the reverse psychology

Iowa State fans have to be shaking their heads and wondering how the f*** they lost to Iowa last year with Spencer Petras at quarterback.

I honestly don’t know if I can handle watching the game next week because I think it is likely to be an epically horrendous shit show. You could literally see a final score of 3-2 or some shit.
I keep telling myself there is no possible way the O can be any worse than what we just witnessed.

I do not believe ISU had one QB sack against SEMO. Doubtful their defense is much better than SD St. Their O-line will not be able to handle Iowa D-line. Dekkers had a good game, but faced nothing like Iowa defense. (Obvious) Petras has to get better. I guess he can't get any worse.
When you say "can't get any worse" just remember we said the same thing about the offense before yesterday..........

Already, I'm seeing Iowa State fans on social media trying to overly downplay things like, "hey guys let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Iowa has beaten us 7 years in a row. We still need to play the game" etc etc etc

And lots of other stuff like that. But you can tell they're biting their tongues to the point of bleeding wanting to rip on us for our absolutely gawd awful offensive performance today.

The one thing I want to point out in all of this is that only Iowa....and I mean ONLY Iowa.....can make both theirs and their opponents' fanbases feel absolutely disgusted about the fact that they can still get wins at the highest level of college football by basically trotting out what amounts to a card board cut out at QB, which is exactly what we did today (except the card board cut out wouldn't have thrown an interception.........just sayin).
It's like existential kung Fu.

Hawks will score two touchdowns next week. Course 1 will be a defensive score . They will win 14-10. Most offenses will have trouble with this Iowa D.

So we'd need to hold teams to 14 pts or less every week to even remotely have a chance..............how many offenses do we face on this schedule that this defense can/will do that to?

The SEMO quarterback was extremely elusive. And my guess is that the ISU defense is significantly better than SDS. But I'm afraid you are right about the o-line, and you definitely are right about the Iowa defense.

I expect Petras to play better. Or to be replaced if he doesn't.

Also, aren't you getting some guys back who missed the game? Cyclone injury situation seems to be missing one of our better starting o-linemen and maybe a very promising freshman RB.
Starting RB G. Williams may be back.
WR Ragaini is out
WR K. Johnson is probably out
Starting CB J. Harris is back from suspension (offseason OWI)
LB Jestin Jacobs got hurt in game, hamstring. I would be surprised if he plays. He had a great game against ISU last year, forced the fumble against Hall and defended Kolar well.

On Petras, yes I would expect that either he plays better or they go to the bullpen.

Yeah I'm afraid we end up losing something like 10-3 or 10-6, somewhere in there.

The defense will absolutely fight the good fight and make it tough on ISU, but I don't think anyone should have high expectations that we will keep ISU from getting at least 1 TD.

They will move the ball and have some scoring opportunities. Just a law of averages.

It's just whether the defense gets gassed like they did against Michigan last year, and decides to quit after it becomes clear the offense has no interest in doing things a college offense is suppose to do at this level..............
This defense is built around depth. No one is getting gassed.

ISU fans are biting their tongues, champing at the bit. Should they win, expect this board to be flooded with strutting, boasting ISU idiots thumping their chest and extolling how superior they are.

They are ready to unload 7 years of frustration on Hawk fans. I recommend nobody respond to any of their posts, or read any threads they start. Just ignore them.

Okay, then we'll go with fried.

As a Vikings fan, I know exactly how this movie goes. Defense plays 56 minutes of amazing lockdown football where the other team can't do jacksh** and shows zero inkling of being able to put a drive together..........but the offense also sucks so bad that they keep putting the defense right back out on the field, until eventually you start to see the body language change from "lets go to work" every time they take the field to "ffs are you guys even trying.........", and then it comes to the 2 minute drill and the opponent marches right through the previously impenetrable defense like Swiss cheese and the Vikings lose and idiot fans complain that the defense broke down in the final minutes when they needed one more stop.............................................tell me we won't see that at any point this year with our remarkable offense leading the way.

One thing we know for sure……Petras won’t lead Iowa down the field in a 2 minute drill.

Thanks for the info, but aren't you afraid making a switch would damage Spencer's delicate psyche?

I think if I hadn’t just watched ISU do incredibly dumb stuff season after season against Iowa then I might be more confident about this game. But I’ve seen Matt Campbell teams play Iowa 5 times now, and here is what we know. Turnovers and specials teams have been the tale of this series.

ISU is coming into this game with a bit more of a gunslinger at QB, and with freshman specialists playing their first big game in Kinnick. This game is ripe for problems there.

ISU’s rush defense wasn’t what it has been in the first game.

Now, if I was just trying to break down what I think would happen based on how both teams played in the first week I’d pick ISU to win. However, I have to assume ISU is going to do some incredibly stupid stuff that will swing the game in Iowa’s favor, because that is what happens in the series as of late.

Looking down the line, I’d love ISU to get this one because if they do they are probably 3-0 heading in to week 4 hosting a top 10 Baylor team who I think is the best team in the Big 12, which would automatically become a huge, huge game.

No, you get overconfident and talk about how Iowa sucks and has no chance, dam you!!!

Whatever happens won’t keep ISU from being kicked down to second level at best in sports. That train has left the station. And 7 years man aren’t they simply due?

Undefeated in games not actually played. Brought back there entire roster of relevance and loss by two scores at home. It just reaffirmed to everyone was a fraud of a season it was because of Covid.
And then beating a very bad Oregon team in the bowl game.

The 2020 season should be removed from the "books" for everyone.

We've lost to Iowa several times when it shouldn't have happened. Last year was classic.

I'll trade you our backup QB for your punter. Fair enough?
It shouldn't have happened last year?! We OWNED you guys & had Purdy dazed on the bench by the 3rd quarter. Only thing classic was when our LB shed your "stud" tight end like a ragdoll & caused your "all-world" RB to fumble with only a minor hit. If we wouldn't have gone conservative early, we would have easily won by 21+.

Correct, you guys kicked our ass last year and Kolar and Hall were absolutely fantastic players.

From year to year, the only question is how ISU finds a way to lose.

Iowa's strategy is simple...keep it generic and wait for mistakes.

Lil Matty always obliges.

But...the odds increase every year that the Clones will eventually win. Maybe it happens this season?

Still doesn't change the reality that the two programs are light-years apart.

Anyone who thinks Iowa State is just going to roll into Kinnick with all their new starters and beat a team they couldn't move the ball on at all last year and win easily is a fool.

Not saying they can't win, but stop overreacting to one game.

Yup, the offense sucks, but last I checked we still have Jack, Seth, Riley, Noah, Lukas, Logan, Kaevon, Yahya, Joe, John, Quinn, Cooper and crew laying wood.

We didn't need much offense at all to win fairly easy last year on the road, now we get a first year QB in his first big road test.

We may not need an offensive point to win.
I bet their first year road starter makes our 3rd year home starter look like a tree stump

Well...we actually have lost that many in a row...and we're a young team on a road trip against an instate rival. So, if you think we're "downplaying" things as part of some reverse psychology scheme...c'mon man. We always find a way to choke against Iowa...almost always with dumb turnovers...and its pretty goddarn normal to expect more of the same this year.

As for your offense, I'm happy to rip on your "absolutely gawd awful" performance...but I also saw how good the Iowa Defense and ST are...so I have little optimism going into this game on Saturday. I have hope...which is what always makes getting beat hurt all the more...but that hope is tethered by experience in this series.

I fully expect Iowa's offense to play much better this week...they will have a big chip on their shoulder and want to prove they aren't as bad as they looked. Petras always seems to find his inner Fran Tarkenton when he plays us so I expect that to happen as well.

Our QB Dekkers looked VERY good yesterday, but we all get that it was SEMS...so it doesn't mean much until he doesn't against a good defense like Iowa. But going on the road into a hostile rivalry environment isn't conducive to a new QB having a great performance...so I guess we'll just have to play the game and see what happens.
Hi Mesa! I know you from Wildcat Authority right?

Well 7 years is a mighty long time to keep losing so they could be due, but is that really something to brag about? Also it ain't gonna keep them from getting kicked down to AA ball in a couple years. After we completely wrecked what should have been their year last year, if they win and they want to brag about that for some reason let them.

I think he meant on paper going into the game, and not literally like Iowa got lucky.

If they do, they'll look pretty stupid. The ISU grad engineers I work with are kinda bummed. They see this game as a really good chance to break the losing streak, but realize it's not that much of an accomplishment given Iowa is fielding what is probably the worst offense since the 70's (well, maybe '99 was as bad?) I don't think beating Iowa this year will be much to crow about unless the offense magically figures out how to block, pass and catch.

I'm confident ISU will still find a way to lose.

It's how lil Matty rolls.

BTW: The team the Clones beat is one of the worst at that level.

Think Minnesota beating NMSU.
How about isu losing on a punt return opportunity, oh wait , I think that has occurred if I remember correctly.

Okay, but somehow make that safety on the last play of the game. That would be an Iowa State thing to do.
That was what I was implying.

Another totally ISU thing to do would be to botch the PAT on a walkoff touchdown and Iowa takes the live ball to the house for a 1-point safety to win 7-6.

How many of the top 10 nut punches to Iowa State have the Hawks delivered? Last year was at the top as they were so highly ranked, gameday, etc and old Kirk and Co. came ridin' into their house and ate all their stuff, drank their beer, and kicked them in the nards and left.
