Maddyn Greenway

Iowa has already offered, and she has said that Iowa is her dream school. However, she said that when she was 14. Hopefully she still feels that way and commits in the next 6 months.

I wonder if Bluders age might be used against Iowa by other schools. She is 61 now, will she still be coaching 8 years from now??

speaking directly out of my ass, but I'm assuming if/when Bluder steps down it will be an assistant that steps up to the HC gig.

Speaking of in family - I checked coaching roster. Bluder's daughter is somehow on the staff, but is getting Masters from Northwestern! How does that work? Also, if memory serves, Stamp has only coached for 3 years. Prior to that she was on staff in other positions. Also she played for Iowa graduating in 2008??? Don't ever remember hearing anything about her. On the other hand, pre-Gustafson I didn't pay attention to WBB.

Raina would be about the only likely candidate, no?
Raina should 100% be in consideration if she wants it. Besides her I’d say Tangela Smith (record breaker at Iowa, currently at NW) and Jennie B should be top targets as well.

I think signing a woman of color could be invaluable…we have developed quite a reputation as a very white team. It doesn’t help that Clark continues to be pitted against Boston and certain fans on our side are happy to throw out comments on social media about how race is a factor in the whole thing. Deservedly or not, it’s not a good look and it certainly impacts recruiting one way or another.

However, I have a hard time believing Bluder will retire while Ava Jones or Ava Heiden are here. After decommiting from ASU, Jones said a top priority for her in finding a new school was stability in the coaching staff. Can’t see Bluder just up and leaving her after all she’s been through.

Heiden OTOH is the highest rated C she and Jan have ever signed — and she’s coming all the way from Oregon. Certainly a coup for them. Im sure Bluder is highly motivated to develop her (and keep her here). They’ve been waiting to sign someone like that. Here is hoping they can sign a comparable Top 40 PG in ‘24 or ‘25 to make the most of that commitment. Could be quite a finale for them as a staff.

I’m also wondering if there’s any chance we can bring Gustafson/Clark on in some capacity the way Oregon and Arizona have with their former stars…

Interesting how this post has aged....

My one reservation with Greenway is that she appears to be on the short side of 5'8". I'm hoping she isn't done growing and ends up around 5'9" or 5'10" at least.

One of the things that helps Clark at the guard spot is the fact that she's 6'0" and has the length to get shots off even when contested.

With Greenway, my only fear is that she stops growing and is more akin to an Elle Ruffridge clone.

Short, scrappy, tenacious point scorer who can fill up the stat sheet against good competition, but will ultimately struggle against the top teams with developed and bigger/taller players.

With that said, 2,000 pts in high school before she's even a sophomore......................that's undescribed ridiculousness.

HVL has to stand on something to get to 5'8" and she's no slouch. I wouldn't sweat it too much.

I'm sorry, but have you ever watched her play? She scored 41 this year vs National Top 25 Hopkins of Minnesota, who was undefeated at the time. Many of her points were on drives to the hoop. Equating her to Ruffredge at 5'3" tops isn't even a close comparison. Maddyn is strong, and will only get stronger. Hope we can get her.

I’m guessing Maddy got dads “come at me bro” attitude which explains her total lack of fear of driving to the rim.
I think Lisa is around another 6-8 years at least. Her and her staff truly seem like great, great friends. I mean if I could absolutely adore what I do every day and do it with my best friends….I might do it til I dropped.

Just long enough when Caitlin is ready to take over for the Head coaching job.🙂

Did not work for Minnesota

I assume that means hiring former Gopher (and WNBA star) Whalen was a disaster.
I didn’t say they should hire them as HC, just bring them on staff (part time, in off season) the way Oregon and Arizona did with their stars that took their programs to new heights.

Oregon having Ionescu on the team took them to new heights.

What? Yes that's exactly my point. Ionescu was almost as big as CC is now and she turned Oregon into a national powerhouse (though they've collapsed since then).

She is now one of the biggest WNBA stars and Oregon has brought her onto the WBB staff in a part-time capacity, which I'm sure can't hurt when it comes to recruiting.

Aari Mcdonald has also been brought on in a part-time capacity at Arizona after she took her team to the NC game 2 years ago. I'm sure that can't hurt recruiting either.

I'm saying I'm hopeful that at some point we can do the same with Gustafson and/or Clark.
