*****MAGA in disarray, who will be speaker of the House***** McCarthy REMOVED! Jim Jordan 0-3. Election denier Mike Johnson confirmed. Vote them out

This tells me something I’ve strongly suspected from the beginning — a coalition of Republicans will not vote for a Speaker without ironclad assurances that legislation to aid Ukraine is presented for House vote.

This has been the case all along. Many Republican reps are strongly pro-Ukraine and additional aid is a non-negotiable issue in their Speaker vote.

Yep

But unless they vote with the Dems on legislation, it's meaningless. The GOP still has the majority. Jeffries can't force them to do anything as Speaker.
I don’t think this is true. The Hastert rule makes it so the speaker can’t bring a vote to the house unless a majority of their party supports it.

If Jeffries were speaker the Dems would still need several republicans to vote for their bills but bills that have bipartisan support and would pass the house but don’t have majority republican support could be brought to the floor for a vote.

I don’t think it will happen but it is probably the best chance of having a functioning government for the next 9 months.

Like I said, without GOP votes, nothing passes. It does bring up an interesting conundrum. The Dems get purple district GOP votes but those guys run the gauntlet of their caucus. The other side of that is it makes those guys more appealing in the very districts the Dems need to flip to take the majority. With the extreme gerrymandering the GOP is doing in places like NC, they could very well still hold the majority in the next Congress....and the dysfunction continues.

Obviously the GOP has a majority, it’s going to take a few GOP votes to pass anything. That doesn’t mean that there would be no advantages to having Jeffries as speaker.

Take Ukraine funding as an example. It’s entirely possible that a bill providing more funding for Ukraine might fail to garner a majority of approval within the GOP caucus but easily pass overall. If Jeffries were speaker he could bring a vote where a republican speaker would not because of the Hastert rule.

Same could be said for avoiding government shutdowns, if you only need to get a small part of the GOP on board instead of 50% to even have a vote everything could run much smoother.

Private schools answer to their accountants and they define “success” however they please. If they want PUBLIC money, they should answer to the same public that public schools do. Why are you so frightened by that?
Because it would create a worse learning environment than currently exists. Families are trying to get away from problems that exist at public schools. Introducing those problems to a new environment makes no sense, if the goal is actually a quality education and environment for students.

It's a club. We don't want just anyone to join, because it will wreck our environment. Hence why a lot of folks don't feel they're getting a choice but being excluded and forced to help subsidize your club. Excuse me educational environment experience.

Anyone can enroll. But, the rules and environment should be left to the schools. Especially now with the improved access. Choose what works the best for your family.

You would think teachers would want the politics, government and red tape out of their schools. They often complain about it. But, instead, they’re so mad about it, that they want to punitively see those same problems applied to private schools, out of spite. That’s not helping kids and families, it’s trying to prevent progress and it’s misguided.

Nope anyone can't enroll . If a student has a learning disability or special needs etc. They'll either be denied entrance or failed. U know this. Don't be a shill.

No, they’ll review why it probably isn’t the best fit, due to lack of resources, staff and infrastructure for their needs. Those parents already know this and aren’t using their disabled children as pawns to make some political point.
That’s really not an actual issue, it just isn’t happening, and is a red herring people like to pretend is a problem.

But by excluding these kids it makes your educational environment seem cheaper and better. It's been used as a selling point to get that sweet public money.
The whole purpose of the program is to supposedly give all kids a better educational experience at less cost. When in reality it only becomes a shell game and ends up costing us more for similar results. It puts the wants of the few over the needs of the many.

Couldn’t they just vote “present” and let the Democrats win the majority vote by default?

I’m sure the Far Right would be furious. But if they represent districts that voted for Biden, they should be safe from being primaried and they would score points with moderates for their bipartisanship.
I think that's the problem - if they work w Dems they aren't safe from being primaried even in a purple district. The extremists come out & the MAGA candidate wins the nomination.

Then quit requiring the things from public schools that you find so odious. If you want public money without public accountability it either applies to everyone or no one. Why is that so difficult for you to deal with? If you want an "environment" where that accountability doesn't apply...

PAY FOR IT YOURSELF.

Simple, huh.

He’s basically arguing that private companies can take public money and do whatever the hell they want with it. Does this include other professions as well?

If the public school gets the same $ per enrollee as the private, why does the private not provide the same access and services? Is it because the “lack of resources, staff, and infrastructure for their needs” is due to funding being used in other areas?

In addition to his leadership roles on the Financial Services Committee, Congressman McHenry has successfully passed important legislation into law that helps entrepreneurs and startup investing. In the 114thCongress, Congressman McHenry authored the “RAISE Act” (Reforming Access for Investments in Startup Enterprises), which was signed into law by President Obama, providing the means for startup employees to sell their stock options to private investors.

Additionally, Congressman McHenry authored the primary legislation to legalize equity-based crowdfunding in the United States. The crowdfunding language he first authored in 2011 was eventually included in the JOBS Act which President Obama signed into law in April 2012. In recognition of his work supporting crowdfunding, Congressman McHenry was presented with the 2013 “Crowdfunding Visionary Award” by the Global Crowdfunding Convention. Congressman McHenry was also awarded the Crowdfunding Leadership Award by the University of California at Berkeley Fung Institute’s Program for Innovation in Entrepreneurial Finance in 2013.

Congressman McHenry’s interest in crowdfunding and capital formation more broadly developed as a child, when his father attempted to grow a small business but struggled for financing. It was this experience—and the lack of small business financing in rural western North Carolina—that drove Congressman McHenry to become a leader on crowdfunding, capital formation, and other forms of disruptive finance. Recently this has expanded to encompass fintech as he works with industry leaders to discover innovative ways to combine finance and technology with the goal of expanding access to capital for America’s entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Throughout his career, Congressman McHenry has been a vocal and effective advocate for the men and women who wear the uniform of our country. He received awards from the North Carolina Chapters of the American Legion and Marine Corps League for his extensive work in bringing a veterans’ health care clinic to his district after nearly two decades of delay. The National Guard presented Patrick McHenry with the Charles Dick Medal of Merit for his exceptional service to the North Carolina National Guard.

Frank Luntz, a right leaning pollster was on CNN last nite.

He's a big McCarthy fan, BTW, and he stated the obvious..."If the House Republicans don't get their shit together, voters will show them the door in next year's election".
That's a remarkable statement coming from him.
A big McCarthy 'fan'? Is that what they call butt buddies these days (Not that there's anything wrong with that)?🤣

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has said he moved into longtime Republican pollster Frank Luntz's lavish Washington penthouse apartment in January to care for Luntz after the pollster suffered a stroke while doing a focus group for the Los Angeles Times a full year earlier, in January of 2020. This peculiar claim about the Luntz-McCarthy roommate situation appears to leave many questions unanswered, however.

McCarthy told former Fox News host turned right-wing podcaster Megyn Kelly that Luntz "took a turn on his health like a year or so ago. ... Frank has an apartment inside D.C., and I rented a room from him, and one of the reasons I did it is Frank had a stroke. You know Frank doesn't have family ... I wanted to make sure that he'd go on his walks, and he'd make sure to take care of his health."

McCarthy told Kelly that he lived with Luntz for "a number of months," adding, "I wanted to make sure he took his medication right. Did I rent a room? I rented a room."

There's no clear evidence that Luntz was in poor health in the period before McCarthy says he moved in to care for him. As Salon previously reported, Luntz did four focus groups for the Los Angeles Times in the fall of 2020, and his firm did two projects for McCarthy's leadership PAC in September and December of 2020. Luntz also embarked on an ambitious Netflix series called "Fridays With Frank," interviewing politicians like McCarthy and Sen. Tim Scott, professional sports figures, disgraced junk bond trader Michael Milken, ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl, Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway and many others.

They are returning to work at noon on Tuesday. That means they took three and a half days off only a few work days after taking seven days off. What are they going to do next? Work two days and then take a month off?
I hope people take note of this when you hear them talking about how lazy American workers are because of strikes or wanting to work from home

Looks like Pedo Gym is only 10-20 votes away from being the new Speaker. Holy Christ how are 200+ Rs supporting this crap? And it will be sick watching all four Iowa Reps votes for this human garbage.
I do think the Jeffries talk and talk of power-sharing with the Dems has had the opposite effect. In most GOPers’ minds, no matter what the charges, no matter what the conduct, Dems are worse.
