March 12 ESPN Bracketology (Final Edition): IOWA remains an 8 Seed (in Birmingham). Bracket Matrix has them as a 9 Seed

Wisconsin lost & their NCAA Tournament hopes are now dashed?

I think one win all but assures a 7. Two wins is a guarantee. Not that I know what I’m talking about.
Consensus is that Iowa is sitting on the 8 line, coming off an extremely ugly loss. A win against Ohio State is not going to improve that. They need to beat a tournament team currently sitting higher (I.e. Michigan State) to move up to a 7. We also need to hope against IL, MD or NW making a run and also making a case for a better seed.

Add Mizzou and Texas A&M to the list of teams that we're cheering against.

so they will lose to the lowest 1 seed in the round of 32 if they survive round 1?

Here's what one very good bracketologist, Rocco Miller, wrote today:
"Kansas fans probably don’t like seeing Iowa here in Des Moines, but Iowa’s campus is plenty far enough (above 75 Miles, which is the rule) to make it a reality."

8 or 9 seed & Des Moines here we come! ;)

I think, like last season, if the Hawks make the BTT final their seed will be set and won't change if they win or lose. So.....if they make it to Sunday they will likely be a 6 no matter the outcome.
Iowa is lucky to be in the NCAA tournament— no need to bitch about their seed. It will be an upset if this Iowa team plays more than one additional game.

How's playing the opening two rounds in Des Moines sound?

Shelby Mast is the Bracketologist for USA Today. His projections are based on how he thinks the committee will make their selections, not how he would want to make them, if the season ended TODAY.

On his website he brags that he is one of the most accurate Bracketologists with 15+ years experience and a 98% accuracy rate since 2005.

Today, March 10th, he has #8 seed Iowa in the Midwest (Kansas City) Region playing #9 FAU with the winner playing #1 Kansas/#16 Grambling State (in Des Moines).

Wisconsin is his 7th team OUT.

He has 9 B1G teams in as of this morning, March 10.

Doesn't look like a tourney run would have helped us.

It looks like Arkansas and Memphis are both potential first-round opponents if we end up as an 8/9. Living here in northeast Arkansas, just across the river from Memphis, either matchup would be a pretty interesting in my world.

There is not a snowball’s chance in hell Iowa plays in Des Moines as an 8 or 9 seed. They don’t do stuff like that to Kansas as the top overall seed.

We may as well cue up the bitching right now. Iowa as a 8 or 9 will, (1) Be lucky to win their first game, and (2) Will surely not beat a one seed in the next round if they make it. One more year without a Sweet Sixteen to complete an overall disappointing season. Oddly enough, we've all seen McCaffery lose it in the heat of battle, but after the war is over, and we've once again capitulated, he remains even keeled and philosophical. Hopefully, as his career is slowly winding to an end, you would hope the fires to excel would be burning within him to accomplish some major landmarks that have so far eluded him.

would we have needed to win yesterday and today to hang on to a 7 seed?

Probably, which was absolutely within our grasp. Oh well I got some time back this weekend. I don't watch after Iowa loses, because I'm a grumpy old man. 😉

Also, these Bracketology "experts" are all wrong. We will be a #10 seed who gets to face a #15 seed in the second round!

yeah, I am sure Michigan State is happy to see Ohio State today and not us

I will only look at scores from the BTT; I won't be watching either

i don't think we suck enough to drop to a 10 seed ;)

Iowa as an 8 seed in DSM is about as good as it would get, assuming they were to win the first round and face Kansas in the 2nd. Do not want to face Bama.

Why not?,.. obtaining seemingly inferior opponents doesn't seem to work very well,.. Let's play Alabama.

Speaking of being an 8 or 9 seed and playing Alabama in the 2nd round in Birmingham....

Mike DeCourcy writes for The Sporting News and is a Big Ten Network Studio Analyst. He does a bracket for FOX Sports.

In his bracket, he has Wisconsin as his 6th team OUT and Michigan as his 7th team OUT.

He, too, has 9 B1G teams in.

His 9 B1G Teams:

2 Purdue
4 Indiana
7 Northwestern
7 Michigan State
8 IOWA
8 Maryland
8 Illinois
10 Penn State

I think we have a 50/50 shot of being on the 8/9 line in Des Moines

Or is is better than 50/50? ;)

MSU down by 9 at half.... Probably would have like to see us. OSU definitely has talent, but underachieved this year.

We were way too careless with the ball and giving up wide open 3s and dribble drives at will against CMac. Not good boss

I hate the 8/9 to the point where I MIGHT want the 10 seed. We are just never going to beat a #1 seed, and I realize I am getting ahead of myself given we would need to win round one first, but its painful we could not win one game out of: (EIU/Nebby Road/Nebby Home/OSU in BTT). We were on the cusp of possible a 6 with 7 at worst. Ugh.

It seems like we are pretty much stuck on the 8/9 line.

Bracket Matrix has been updated.

Out of 102 brackets, Iowa is the lowest #8 seed.

The same 9 B1G teams are dancing:

1 Purdue (average seed: 1.31)
4 Indiana (average seed: 4.18)
7 Northwestern (average seed: 6.87)
7 Michigan State (average seed: 6.89)
8 Maryland (average seed: 8.00)
8 IOWA (average seed: 8.48)
9 Illinois (average seed: 8.69)
11 Penn State (average seed: 10.59)
11 Rutgers (average seed: 10.77)

I’m right there with you. Unfortunately this team has “earned” the 8/9 line and doesn’t deserve to be gifted a 10 seed.

Cup half full…all this team needs to do is shoot 60% from 3s in back-to-back games to make the sweet 16! Possible but not at all probable. wish I was joking…

That said, stranger things have happened. Last year was a BIG tourney championship run and early exit in the ncaa. Maybe we’ll get treated to the opposite this year!

In what fantasyland does that happen?!? There is zero percent chance iowa plays in Des Moines.
Agree. There is NO WAY the committee puts Iowa in Des Moines. Not happening.

Mark my words.....they are going to play a late game vs. a West Coast team.
