Speaking of Young...Or Young?
Speaking of Young...
With him getting down to 165 I assumed the Bull would be out longer. What does Young do going forward? Battle for 174 or 165 or are those spots a done deal for the season barring injury?
Just doesn't make sense to me if (if he is still in the mix for 174) for an undersized 174 battling for the spot to cut down to 165 for spot duty when Moody could have served the same purpose.

I get the feeling he did not have too tough of a time to get to 165. He was very small looking compared to Imar.
He was between weights already so not a problem going to 65 and no great loss of weight if he wants to go back up. Since he didn’t beat out Gunther this was a way for him to get quality mat time. Plus he can still fill in at both weights if/when needed.Speaking of Young...

Yes send him to Doyle. He isn't the highest paid S&C coach in college football for lack of results.I think the problem is that he was between weights in the first place. He should have been closer to a full sized 174 given that Marinelli has had 165 locked down for awhile now. Even if he was half way between, use the month to continue getting bigger and wrestle opens. Plenty of quality mat time available at Grand View, Harold Nichols and Lindenwood.
Do we need to start sending guys back to Doyle again?
This is what I would have done if the plan was 174. Actually try to get bigger and wrestle other 174s. As a staff if I think Young is potentially our guy at 174, I don't think its worth giving up the time to grow and mat time with other 174s when there is another capable body to plug in at 165 for a few dates. Now if they feel the door is just about shut at 174 then get the kid in where you can.I think the problem is that he was between weights in the first place. Young should have wrestled 174 last year in opens. No reason for him to make 165 all year if he new he was gonna try to 174 the following. He would have been undersized but he would have gained strength and learned what he needs to do to be a successful 174. The weight would have slowly come on but not if ur making 165 all year.I'm always amazed at how it seems to be a given that guys can't go up a weight class from one season to the next. It's not that hard for a 19/20 year old to pack on six or seven pounds of muscle in the off-season.
Eyeball test says he is nowhere close to 174. I love this kid, hell of wrestler behind an even better wrestler at 165. Imar is a horse but Young was clearly over powered at 165 by him. What do you think the top 74 lbers would do? No fault of his that he is not a 174 lb wrestler. Its not as easy to put on 15 lbs of muscle to a 160 lb frame as message board warriors like to think.

If he looked small for 165 vs imar after a recent offseason attempting to muscle up he may just be too small for 174 right now. That's the only thing that makes sense to me. I would still think he's better off trying to get big and compete for 174 rather than cutting for several weeks.
Where did I say he is a 57 lber? As for your second paragraph we are in agreement. Kid probably just cant get enough mass put on to become a 174 or that was never the plan to begin with. He may be bulked us as much as he can already at 165.Eyeball test says he is nowhere close to 174. I love this kid, hell of wrestler behind an even better wrestler at 165. Ah so now he wasn’t actually a 157 pounder last season. Right. This is the opposite of a big fish story.
Let’s face it—if he actually made an attempt to gain weight in the off season it was a horribly unsuccessful venture. Totally ineffective. And if he didn’t make an attempt then why the heck not? It was a failed attempt or poor roster planning.

Regarding putting Young at 165 or 174, I say take a vote on this board and give the result to coach Brands to help guide him to an enlightened decision.
I obviously have no idea how this will shake out, but maybe Bull grows into 74? Heck, maybe Kem and Bull both go up and Young slides all the way to 57. Not being around them, I have no idea what's possible. But, it's not exactly against the question for other weight changes.
Anything’s possible. We could even go further if we want to really be creative:I actually was thinking to myself Young might be able to make 157. His frame is pretty ripped and he does not have bulky hips and thick legs which make it easier to add mass too. I just think he is not that big right now.
nope.Maybe Young believed he would be able to beat out Marinelli and so instead of going at a weight that was "open" he took the challenge and tried to beat out Marinelli. Just a wild arse guess there.
Anything’s possible. We could even go further if we want to really be creative:
125. Lee
133. Murin
141. Lugo
149. Kem Dog
157. Young
165. Alex
174. Gunther
184. Cash
197. Warner
285. Stoll
First projection here, even if it is a dream one, so be gentle....lol
Pretty sure that lineup would stack up with or better than others’ next year.
Yeah, that’s why I said it was a dream projection only.Looks good except for the part where 4 of the 10 would have to cut off their left limb to make this happen.

If this remotely true...he's a transfer in waiting, imo.You all have seen Mr Young in the stands right? Dude is a brick sh!t house but is probably 5’ 6” 140lbs. Might not be in Young’s DNA to “bulk up”
Why? The kid wanted to be a hawk and no spot is guaranteed for anyone. He is only a freshman, plenty of time to make the starting lineup. I think he will eventually.Young is probably wondering why he even chose Iowa.
Absolutely true and brother wrestles in the 130’s.If this remotely true...he's a transfer in waiting, imo.

Young should cut to 149 next year, and then have Lugo go to 141.
