Since Mark Schwab was mentioned several times in the recent thread on the Iowa HS Goat, I thought that I would share a video of a tremendous match that he wrestled back in 1985 when he represented the US in what was then called the Pittsburgh Press Wrestling Classic.
I was there and there is no doubt that in an event filled with great wrestling, it was the match of the night. His opponent was Tony Reed, a two time PA champion and both of them really came to wrestle. The winner was named the OW of the evening which was something considering that Jack Cuvo, Doug Wyland and Eric Messner all won their matches and Chris Barnes was only able to walk out with a brutally earned tie.

I hope that you enjoy it

Thanks for the video. Didn’t see Schwab get beat on his feet like that very much.
Kind of funny whoever was yelling in the background about Reed backing up. He scored five takedowns, so didn’t look like he was backing up too much.

That was a very interesting watch. Lots of PA guys over the years have knocked off opponents at the Dapper Dan/PItt Classic that they wouldn’t beat at any other event. Tony Reed was a good wrestler (NCAA qualifier at Bloomsberg) but hard to imagine that happening in another venue.

Another thing that struck me watching a few of those matches: There would be more reversals in a given match than you would see in the entire dual today. Far more risk-taking, throws and big scoring moves too.

Agree, I would have been extremely skeptical any high schooler could take down Mark so often in one match.
Seeing him, Dan Knight and Tim Krieger at the '84 State Tournament defined "stud" for me.
