Matt Campbell to interview for Chicago Bears HC

Pretty interesting. Indicates that Campbell will leave for the right spot.

I also think he learned something after the last time he was the "it" boy. His name was super hot for a bunch of vacancies about 3 years ago. He turned them all down. A couple disappointing seasons and the interest faded.

His interest is at another high right now, so he must be willing to take a strike before the iron cools again.

Or he’s looking for very lucrative contract extension ala KF!

MC makes $4M/yr in Lames. Eberflous was getting $4.5M. (est) Moving from Ames to Chicago that's a pay cut with a lot more pressure. Even if they offered him $6M, chances are it'd be a much shorter run than he'd have in Lames. This interview is just to keep his name active in NFL circles, connected and inflate his perceived value with Clone fans.

Him leaving short term helps Iowa, That roster will come apart at the seams and it will hurt in State recruiting so go commit career suicide and take that trash job
I have a feeling he could get another college job after making like $30 million from the Bears. Probably a job in one of the only two major conferences remaining.

The Bears are probably better than their record indicates and they have their QB of the future (supposedly) and they weren’t devoid of talent when they were able to draft a QB #1 overall like most teams are when they draft #1 (recall the Bears got the pick from another team - can’t recall which one tho). But dang they play in a tough division!

Unless he’s simply wanting a new challenge, he’d be an idiot to accept that job if offered imo. Then again, it’s truly possible that itch for a new challenge is there. He probably has achieved all he can at ISU. Even with a 12 team playoff - possibly 16 in the future - I don’t see them threatening often, if at all, to make it.

All that said, it would be nothing but positives from the fallout for the Hawks - go get it Matt!!!

On the surface, it just looks like a choice between job security and accepting a new challenge. Either he thinks he’s accomplished everything he can at ISU and will welcome a chance to coach at the highest level, or he will stay at ISU for too long. Sounds familiar.
I don’t think it’s exactly that, because he has interviewed for other jobs, and not gotten them.

Clearly he likes coaching at ISU, but there are jobs he’d rather have. He just needs to get offered.

They are interviewing 12+ candidates, among them Pete Carroll. I am guessing his agent got the interview for him, maybe for the experience. Very few college coaches have successfully made the cross over to the NFL as the head coach, most have failed. Timing is everything, I am sure ISU is happy that his new contract has been signed.
