MBB Media Day. PMac & Tony state that they Plan on this being their Final Season at Iowa

I wouldn't read anything into either of those at the moment to be honest. JBo and Connor also made similar comments and even went through senior day ceremonies a month before they decided to use their extra year.
Not saying they'll for sure come back, I just think it's something that can change over the course of 6-7 months. Fran definitely made a point to mention that they both had another year remaining--I'd expect that he will be recruiting both hard come the spring, regardless of what they say now.

Regarding PMac: this is the 2nd time he's indicated that this will be his final year.

Regarding Tony: he could have said that he hasn't made a decision on whether or not to return for 2024-2025; instead, he said he plans on this being his final year at Iowa.

But who knows; they could change their mind. Time will tell.

We'll see. I'm just old enough to remember when JBo said multiple times it was going to be his last year and even supposedly stopped going to classes after the '21 season. He's admitted that Fran recruited him back in a way that it was tough for him to say no to a final year to make another run.
There's a ton of other similar examples of this throughout the country the past couple of years too. That's just why I don't really pay attention to what they indicate at this point. I'd be curious to see what the percentage of Power 6 players who don't have NBA draft hopes and decide to not use their covid year eligibility--I'm guessing that is a much smaller number than people realize.

I thought it interesting on who he didn't comment on. And that would be Even Braun and Riley Mulvey. You would think he would have some plans for Braun, bringing him into the fold like he did, but it appears as though maybe Mulvey will just remain a practice player.

This is PMac's 5th season; he just seems ready to move on.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Tony changes his mind & decided to return for 2024-2025; it would be a lot easier for Fran to recruit Tony to come back for one more year than to land someone in the transfer portal.

IMO, that usually means you don't have 8-9 guys that are clearly better than everyone else on the roster and deserve all the playing time.

Quite frankly at this point, with 6 new faces on the roster it doesn’t surprise me to hear that he’s looking at everyone. Especially on the interior where we don’t have an established player.

Unfortunately at this point I would shocked if Mulvey had a major impact this year. I don’t have a thing against the guy but he hasn’t shown anything in two years. Braun I have no idea about, but think he’s a depth piece if nothing else.

Yeah for the first time since Garza/Nunge, Iowa actually has depth in the frontcourt with more traditional sized bigs.

Based on Fran's comments and the bread crumbs out there, Freeman may start or at the very least get solid minutes as a true freshman.

Krikke is an offensive weapon and will play a lot, some with Freeman and some undersized at the '5'. He's basically Rebraca's size.

Brauns seems like the the reliable competent backup. Will provide minutes when others get foul trouble or if Freeman is having a down rookie night which is to be expected.

Dembele uncertain. Seems like a project, but Fran has also spoken highly of his defense and rebounding. That can earn paying time even as a true freshman.

I don't know about Mulvey. He has not shown significant growth since arriving at Iowa. I hope he can find success but he may be the 4th option at best.
