Don't hae a clue as to what the requirements are but was wondering if theres any Possibility that Jack would qualify??

He won't qualify. To get a sixth year you need to miss two years because of injury. Nunge will have only missed one.

Commonly known as the Jess Settles rule ...

I don't understand how that is possible. So they are essentially asking for a 6th year. Was there any injury last year for which he redshirted? I thought that was solely for developmental reasons. I guess it's worth a try, but not holding my breath.

Rules changed last year. Two Georgia Tech players got a 6th year granted this year after red shirting then suffering an injury, Lucas Johnson and David Curry. Although not a guarantee he should be able to get one.

case keenum and grant Gibbs off the top of my head.

Keenum got a sixth year because he had two full years of injury. Gibbs simply got a medical redshirt but didn't get an extension on the 5 year clock.
Thorne got a sixth year because of two full years of injury.

Nunge will only have one full year of injury. In the rules there isn't an exception for when you have a voluntary redshirt. NCAA could grant I guess if petitioned but it would be a very rare case.

I do see though, in the new rules if the kid can show that he was forced to redshirt by the school he may be able to get an additional year.

Mark Emmert doesn't know what he is talking about.

"This is problematic for athletes took a normal redshirt season or sat out due to a transfer. An athlete can generally not use a medical redshirt in those cases unless they get a clock extension or sixth year waiver. To do that the athlete show they lost two seasons outside of his or her control. The medical redshirt would be one, but the athlete would still need to show another."

Gibbs played 6 years. So did Keenum.

Keenum wasn’t injured his first year until they applied for the waiver.

Nunge did break his foot last year but I thought it was after he said he was reshirting.

IIRC, didn't Gibbs miss two (or most of two) seasons with knee and shoulder injuries? I know he sat out because of a transfer, but he was hurt during that season.

Pretty sure he was injured in practice after he redshirted last year. Didn't he miss most of the season because of this injury? And by season I mean the ability to still practice with the team.

Things may have changed but don’t think you can apply for sixth year until finished with fifth year. Will wait and see how it all works out
And if more injuries occur
