This isn’t football that takes some time to build up. Even if you “buy” your team football has too many variables compared to basketball.

Fran has had more than enough time and he continues to bring in the same players and we get the same results. It’s possible if he was a defensive mind coach Iowa does better in the dance.

And then there is the ever popular "Who you gonna get?" to replace Fran, and "Be careful what you wish for." by the fans who are terrified of any coaching change, are 100% convinced Fran is the best possible coach we can get, and Iowa is guaranteed to return to Lickliter-level with the next coach.

Yeah, Otzelberger 2 sweet16s in his 1st 3 years and he took over a program with fewer conference wins than what Fran inherited from Lickliter....plus Fran actually inherited Gates and only had to re-sign Devyn marble when he took overs and both those guys ended up making All B1G.

Even in a disaster like LIckliter's final year, there were a bunch of Lickliter supporters that thought he deserved another year and that replacing him would Kill the program. So there are always going to be the hardcore supporters that don't want to admit they were wrong or have emotional investment in the coach.

Here we are 14 years later with Fran and still waiting for him to have a special year. I don't think he ever gets it done, but getting another 11-9 B1G year, losing 1st game in BTT, I'm sure that is in the cards.
