Who do we take? Generally get 15 spots right?
Wish List
125: Stickley and Lee
133: Glynn and Laux
141: Murin, Turk, Happel
149: Sorensen, Lugo, Glosser
157: Kem
165: Marinelli
174: Young and Gunther
184: Bowman and PD3*
197: Wilcke, Warner, Holloway
285: Stoll
* unattached due to not being enrolled at Iowa yet so doesn’t count towards our 15
My wish list is 19 so have to cut 4. Most likely Glosser, Holloway not making trip. That leaves 2 more. Only 1 133? Murin or Happel or both? Does Bowman not go if PD3 does complete graduation at ISU?

Thoughts?

I know there’s a lot of time until then so some of the position battles may be more settled by then but it gives us something to talk about that’s Iowa related

I believe the last 2 years we've sent 17

I believe in the past few years we've had anywhere from 15-17 people. Last year we had 15 people, with Clark-Turk-Happel-Bowman-Glynn notably not competing. (Clark and Turk due to injury).
Our 15 last year were Gilman-Laux-Carton-Sorensen-Glosser-Kemerer-St. John-Gunther-Marinelli-Young-Meyer-Brooks-Wilcke-Holloway-Stoll.

I think we'll know by Midlands if PD3 has graduated ISU/been accepted into Iowa. I think he'd be attached at Midlands by then if thats the case.

Hopefully we can get a couple more than 15 to bring.

I thought 15 was the limit and that 1 year we were specially allowed to have 17. Not sure though. Also thought PD3 wasn’t allowed to compete under Iowa flag until 2nd semester started which would be like 2nd week in January, after Midlands.

Once PD3 graduates from Iowa St and registers for classes at Iowa he can compete for Iowa before classes actually start is the way I understand the rule.

It seemed like it was Iowa or maybe the B10 who used to have a rule that said a transferring athlete couldn’t compete until 2nd semester started. This was more limiting than the NCAA rule. Has that changed? It has been awhile since anyone in wrestling or hoops has done this.

It was my understanding that the Big 10 set the rule to make the beginning of the second semester the date of eligibility, this to favor football as someone that didn't go to a single class and failed every class would still be able to play in all games including a bowl game/playoffs.
The Big 8/12 was the opposite, in there eligibility date is the end of the semester (Not the beginning of the next).
It may have changed, and I may have had it explained incorrectly or I may have misunderstood.
But if you go back and look at previous Iowa wrestlers that weren't eligible until second semester, none competed with the team at Midlands.

I dont see lee wrestling this year.I was talking to wrestler on the team that said its very doubtful he will wrestle this year .Let the leg get 110% healed.

I could go either way on Lee wrestling this year, but it would be nice for Stickley to man 125 this year, get experience, and bump up to 133 next year. I'm selfish so I would like to see Warner and Lee 4 years together in the same lineup.

I asked him whats the chances of Spencer wrestling this year.He thought a few seconds and said 30% chance. He mentioned that he wouldn't make enough teams points difference. I wont mention who the wrestler was but hes pretty reliable source. I've been waiting to watch him wrestle since the day he commented so its a bummer for sure but play it safe.

Unless Midlands has changed policy recently, only 10 score team points and multiple wrestlers can be in the same bracket.

You mean starting right? He will still be wrestling in open tournaments hopefully?

The U of I now has two fairly high profile athletes who have come back fairly quickly from ACL injuries in Brandon Snyder and Sam Stoll only to have the re-tear the same ligament. Not sure I have a lot of confidence in athletic medical staff these days. Let Spencer heal up this year. Maybe get him into a later season open tourney or two.

Unless something goofy happens between now and Midlands, Spencer will be wrestling at Midlands

I guess you could call it knowledge. I ask questions and sometimes I get answers. I am told the plan is Midlands and decide what he'll do after that.
Last I heard things were still very much up in the air. That wrestling multiple matches at the midlands would not be the optimum choice.

Didn't he say in that interview from his dorm room that he's on the mat and wrestling now?

I thought Stolls second was his other knee?

I am sure you have an in depth perspective on both of those injuries and your medical background provides your indepth insight. Thank you for continuously contributing your excessively negative perspective to all things Iowa. You are probably the life of all the parties you attend. Perhaps you can provide some statistics to support your lack of confidence in the sports med department. You gave 2 recent examples, do you have more? I mean 2 out of the last 2 years of injured athletes is a huge number. Share some more or are you waiting for the woman's basketball player to have an issue so you can mention that?

You got all that mileage from “not sure I have a lot of confidence”? Even I’m impressed.

We need more recruits like Spencer Lee even if he can’t really tell a joke. J/k on the comic relief. That was the funniest segment of the lot, imo.

It's kind of an example of your body of work. I used to expect insight and information from you. Now I look for negativity and working real hard to take a shot at Iowa. Not sure when the transformation occurred, I think it was gradual but you appear to have become the poster child for the 'not only is the glass half full it's leaking' approach.

Good thing I don’t post to make you happy I guess.

I get accused on this board as a homer and being anti Iowa. I guess I’m doing something right.

I have missed the homer part lately. Have you been called that lately? I don't think it's anti Iowa as much as it is your negative perspective on most things. And I for one pretty content that posts on a message board have little to do with my overall happiness.

Spencer looked at Stoll like this:

There have been a few things that happened lately that I don't like. When those things happen, I express my opinion. Hell, everyone's favorite poster Gobblin agreed with me on one of them. For now, I've moved on from both. At the end of the day most of us are just fans with an opinion and you know what they say about opinions.

I don't think being a fan means blind loyalty. Never have and never will. There are far, far more good things going on in the Iowa wrestling program than bad.
