Would you have preferred "fella"?

college athletes are referred to as "kids" ALL THE TIME.
have you really never noticed this?

I get what you're saying but I never do.

On the other hand my beliefs are formed by real life situations that don't revolve around a game.

I have not been a Moss fan so I’m not exactly heartbroken by this news. I just hope that Frederick and Toussaint can step-up and/or a Grad Transfer SG (which was #1 hope going into the offseason) is in the works.

In what I read it said he is immediately eligible next season ... is he a Grad Transfer then?

Yes, he's a RSr. Grad transfer.

This is a monster loss for Iowa. He was a great 3pt shooter and could get to the rim. When he was clicking he could really get hot. We will miss him for sure. Fran may need to start looking at grad transfer guards now. We're gonna need serious help in the backcourt. CJ Fredrick and Joe T. had better be for real.

I disagree on the loss as I have posted my thoughts on him in many other threads. Besides his occasional offensive outburst he was a very below average Big 10 starting SG.

I was wondering about his eligibility because everyone always is alluding to him having academic issues. Glad to see he got his degree.

I'd never heard about him having academic issues.

You have your thoughts about Moss, I have mine. We'll see who's right in November.

I thought part of the reason he redshirted was to get academics in order, and that he was late arriving to campus for same. I could be confused though.

If that’s the case, and he is indeed a grad transfer (meaning degree in hand) good for that young man. Great for him actually.

Basketball skills aside, if he got his schoolwork in order and has a degree from Iowa, his time here well spent.

I’m not saying he did have academic issues but there was always speculation on this site about it. I think people assumed that because there night have been some talk about him taking redshirt to adjust academically.

Yep neither one of us know how Moss leaving will playbout so I agree pointless to argue when we both have our opinions.

I do remember something like that, but I thought it was an admissions thing. Hadn't heard anything about him struggling with his classes.

I reported on here the day after the Tennessee game that Moss would be a graduate transfer. My source was legitimate and turned out to be spot on.

Perhaps wants to move back to Chicago area. But you gotta believe playing time was a major factor. Moss sat a lot in the second half of games. With JoeT and Frederick in the mix it stands to reason Moss would play even fewer minutes next year.

With that said, it will be interesting to see which program Moss thinks he can play more at. Maybe Illinois but Depaul or Loyola seem like MUCH better options.

You don't have a source. He shoots 45% from three and lost minutes this year. Was routinely benched late in games. He's going to lose minutes next year. Come on.. it's a message board

Have to think Connor starts at the 1 next year and Jobo at the 2.

Fran must have felt strong about Jobo at the 2 next year. I think Connor is a better all around player than Moss.

Joe T, Fredrick, and Patrick’s roles all just increased a little bit.

Personally I’m happy with the move. We have scorers, we need more all around ball players.

The 3 ball will become a concern. Last year we had 4 guys who could stroke the J. Next year will be J-Bo, Weezy, and I guess Frederick but I honestly have no idea what to think of him.

I can't say that I agree with you assertion that we have plenty of scorers. We lost our 1st, 5th, and 6th highest scorers (Cook, Moss, Baer.)

It's possible that guys getting more playing time and those with another year will fill that void but I don't think you can say that with any sort of certainty.

Moss is a big loss because his replacements are young. A year as backups probably would have done them well. CMac better be seriously working on his shooting in the off-season. We are going to need him to be more of a scoring threat next year.

Baer will end up being the biggest loss from last year’s team imo.

Losing Baer, Cook and Moss and replacing with Patrick, Pemsl, and Nunge (I am not counting CJF until I see him play some) is a bit of a down grade UNTIL Patrick gets a year under his belt.

I anticipate that Patrick will be playing a lot of 3 and Joe will be playing a lot of his minutes at the 2. It also means JoBo might get more time at the 2 and JoeT gets some added time at the point. Hell maybe if JoeT comes in and can handle it right away he starts at the 1 and JoBo starts at the 2...kind of a long shot but a possibility.

We have a strange line up situation. Deep at point. Deep at center. Maybe deep at 4. 2 & 3 we have one player that has played any college ball. Now, that's a really good player (Joey W) but CJF, P McC (if he even can guard on the perimeter) are complete unknowns in the college game.

This is worrisome. Really really need for CJF to be a diamond in the rough or we get a transfer that can play right away.

The good news is CJF seems to have a fairly complete game, so he won't be another pure spot-up shooter. He can drive to the hoop and has good handles and a midrange game to go along with his outside shot. Plus he's got the toughness and stones to try and take a charge against Tyler Cook. That counts for something.

Will he be quick enough to defend opposing SGs? Can he create his own shot? Can he play extended minutes? Those are my big questions.

I would argue that we have depth at the 2 as well, as this news almost guarantees Bohannon half his minutes at the 2 spot due to the depth we have at the point. But you are right, Moss leaving doesn’t leave us short on players, but experienced depth. We are now counting on unknowns to get us to where we want to be, which is a bit scary.

Agreed it’s a downgrade, but you also have to assume that the returners take a step forward (hopefully)

I feel like Moss will get a shot at a big program. His game could fit very well with a solid PG and a 3/4 who can drive and defend. We will see.

Moss lost minutes late because his defense was suspect. I actually thought Daily played better defense late in the season using his length. When the going gets tough the tough get going, I guess Moss decided he wanted something else, good luck to the young man.

Gonna work out for every party involved i feel. I dont know why but i hope he goes close to home, replaces the stud at ill st, tears it up and goes to the tourney

This is a big loss like BallHawk said. A fifth year senior who’s a mature and hardworking player, shot over 40 percent from 3, can get to the hoop and is an under appreciated perimeter defender. If Iowa were in a position to get the exact same type of transfer we’d all be talking about being BIG contenders next year. Instead we lose that guy.

His biggest knock was obviously the numerous games he absolutely disappeared. Those games Iowa would lose by 6-10 points and you scratched your head asking why they lost the game. Then you look at the box score and see Moss managed to only score 2 points on 1-6 shooting in like 21 minutes. And you’re just like “how is it possible that the guy who scored 23 point with 4-7 from 3 pt last week could possibly prove so ineffective tonight?”

Like an on/off switch.

I don’t blame the coaching staff by any means, but always felt like there was a disconnect there with Moss. They could never keep the fire lit under his rear. Can you imagine if he’d played four years under Izzo at Mich State or John Beilein at Michigan? He’d have been the guy who was a quiet contributor for two years, then makes a HUGE leap as an upperclassman, becomes all conference and lights Iowa up in the second round of the BIG tourney for 25, 8 and 7. After the game we’d be right here on this board bitching about why Fran and Co. can’t recruit guys like Moss.

Sorry for the long rant. Always liked Moss and was looking forward to him being a key leader next year. Wish him well wherever he goes.

Hawktrooper makes some good points. The best theory I've heard is psychological. When Isaiah hit his first couple of shots he'd typically have a great game, when he missed early he frequently just disappeared.

Whatever the cause its a big loss. Isaiah's mistakes, and in fairness they were many, did not outweigh his production.

Moss hardly ever could create a shot with his moves - opposite of Joe W.
Roy Devyn Marble was able to drive into a crowded lane and stop and pop one in. Moss will not be missed.
