MPLS Star Tribune Columnist: P.J. Fleck deserves a chance - and ridicule

I could understand you posting these on our board if you were beating us for recruits. We didn’t offer any of these players and after watching their film, I understand why. This guy’s leverage is atrocious.

but you see, we are trying to be Iowa!

Your lineman had atrocious leverage this year. Fleck saw this.

Do you not see the plan?

Wait? What? Now you are bragging about getting a 3* juco OL with offeres from Arizona, UCLA and Texas Tech that Iowa DIDN'T EVEN OFFER. Wow you guys are awesome keep rowing the boat. I think Iowa will be just fine in the tackle department starting 2 freshman and having 2 4* already locked in for 19' class.

Your obsession with Iowa is starting to get a little out of control. Enjoy your bowl game....

Bring back Slushmouth Lou?
Just trying to reach the legendary 4-5 level

by the way, these guys are huge......we need a bigger boat!

Nice project ya picked up there. The 4* is based purely on upside. Maybe 6-6 next year?

“Let’s get out there and do everything we can to hold down the score, boys.” That's an elite statement right there

9 coaches in 45 years. I guess Minny continues to demand excellence, no matter how many decades of coach searching is necessary.

Your post begs the question.....Of those 9 coaches who were the best not counting Lou?

Glenn Mason?

Mason never really competed for a Big Ten title in the old league. He won 9 regular season games once, 8 once, and 7 a couple of times. So even in the new format he likely would never be playing in the B1G championship game. However, when looking at the results of every other coach I think that it is safe to say that he was the best coach that Minny has had, if you only include their tenure at Minny, during that time frame. Heck, Claeys is the only other coach with an above .500 record during that time frame.

Something else interesting that I saw while researching records, if you want a good chuckle. Check out the link of the highest attended home games of theirs for each season going back to the Metrodome opening in 1982.

15 seasons with the Iowa game being the highest attendance. 10 with Wisconsin since they always used to alternate seasons. That's a lot of visiting fans when you compare those to the season average attendance for each year. For instance in 1990 they averaged 40,585 a game. Remove the Iowa game(64,694) from the average and they averaged 35,763 for the other games. Doing the math it looks like Iowa brought in roughly 30,000 visitors for that game.

Jerry Kill IMO

I agree. Kill was probably the best of the bunch - much better game-day coach than Mason for sure.

It seemed like Mason's Gopher teams would go 4-0 or 3-1 playing the sisters of the poor in the non-conf, win 3-4 in conference by beating some combination of Indiana/Illinois/Purdue/Northwestern while regularly getting handled by the top half of the conference. Nice stable 6-8 wins per year. Go to a low level bowl. Rinse and repeat...

Careful that sounds an awful lot like us in certain years.

Gophers currently 26th in the country for recruiting, 1st in the Big 10 west.

Just got a WR out of Georgia with 3 SEC offers including Georgia.

Fleck has shocked me with how well he is recruiting despite a terrible season.

Can’t imagine how well he will recruit once he starts winning games.

Lol...how many commits? 26? I think that makes a difference. Iowa has 16.
