Hey y'all,
Been a long time since I've posted, but thought I'd weigh in for a minute.
I've been watching, and been a fan of Iowa, since Fran got here, solely because of what he did at Siena, and Iowa is my other favorite college basketball team because of that other than the Saints.
This may be my favorite Fran team of all time since I've been watching him coach. And, that's a tough call to make, because he had one other year that blows me away in regards to his recruiting and his coaching:
Siena-Ohio St. 8/9 matchup. NCAA. Double Overtime. Onions. Double Order.
You know the game.
But that team? 7 deep. That game, Fran basically ran his fab five at the Buckeyes all 50 minutes of the game, and they showed the battle, the toughness, the togetherness that this team is showing.
That team didn't have Luka, Weezy, or CJ - but they had five guys plus two that just absolutely had each others backs and knew how to win. I'm thinking this squad has the same thing.
Ronald Moore = Joe Toussaint
Kenny Hasbrouck = Joe Wiescamp
Edwin Ubiles = CJ Frederick
Alex Franklin = Connor McCaffery
Ryan Rossiter = Luka Garza
Josh Duell = Ryan Kriener/Cordell Pemsel
Clarence Jackson = Bakari Evelyn
The crazy part of this comp is Alex Franklin/Connor - Luka is actually a combo of both Alex and Ryan; everything he's doing is a combo of both. But, Ron was a waterbug (who, spoiler alert, hit both threes in each overtime to get the job done) and Toussaint is starting to show some traits than can compare to him. Weezy can shoot and slash like Kenny. CJ is a few inches shorter than Edwin, but he can shoot from the outside, drive, and play defense. And Connor - he's just the glue guy. He's the leader.
Damn, this team is so much fun to watch, and I'm pretty sure it's my favorite team Fran has put on the floor since he's been here. I've been a Fran fan for 15 years now - and now, I'm an Iowa fan to boot. I'm having a lot of fun, and ultimately, I really just hope you are too.
ROOT FOR YOUR BOYS!!! This team is so special, no matter what happens. Let's enjoy this.
GO HAWKS!!!
Cheers,
Jay
