My hope for this team

Is that starting with the long flight back tonight and going thru the next 10 days they are hurting; hurting real bad....just as bad as I'll be hurting having to have to go to work tomorrow and face smarmy co-workers who have been telling me at every opportunity Iowa isn't good enough to get the job done and win the conference title this year. Actually, I hope their pain is 1000x greater than what I'll have to face. I doubt it will be.

They seem like a ship that's within site of shore, but taking on water badly. Just trying to hang on long enough to make it to the dock.

The worst thing about a loss like this is when you have a long layoff following it. This break sucks for Iowa.

I could see this loss affecting them a week from now. I could see this loss spelling into the Wisky game and then so on.

Iowa has to have the senior leadership to overcome this. This is the problem w/this team, where is the senior leadership? Utoff is scoring and so is JOk. But outside of those two, no one else is showing anything. Someone has to show up.

Setting sites a little lower.
Still, much higher than start of the year.
Even if they didn't win another game their B1G total is still better than I thought. And, they'll win another game. At least one more.

This is where in the past I used to always say, "Fran has the tools" to overcome this. I am praying I am right, I think he will get the boys up for the game and get them re-focused, but we have seen collapses in the past (albeit the last time there was outside issues) and no one could over come them.

I hope that Fran and Co get the boys back. Its a long grind and I hope they can re-group. A week off might do them good, but it also might do them bad as well. I am trusting Fran and Co and they will get them back!

Serious? We've had pretty incredible senior leadership until tonight. I will be shocked if Uthoff and the rest don't bounce back to rip Wisconsin a new one. Not like Uthoff needs the extra motivation. A bad loss isn't bad if you use it as a springboard. I think these seniors will.

I agree with you, I expected our seniors to show up tonight and only Utoff did. Last year it was White who took over the game and we won in OT. Tonight Gessell and Woody and Clemmons were non-factors.

I hate to say it, but Iowa has to get the ball into the post (someone outside of Utoff) and allow Woody a chance. There was about 5-6 times tonight where woody had a mis-match and we didn't get him the ball. We settled for a drive or contested shot. Iowa has to get Woody involved again in the offense.

As a Navy man I like this analogy. Went through a typhoon on a frigate off the Phillipines with the ship literally rocking back and forth with all hands in their racks unless on watch. I don't know if we've reached typhoon stage or not but we could get there if this doesn't turn around.

No fan's emotions about this season and each game compare to the emotions felt by the players /period!

Then we were taken to the Woodshed by a Gonzaga team.

I think these losses are way easier for fans. Iowa fans are used to getting their hopes up and then destroyed...a losing streak to end season...par for course.
Blown out in Rose Bowl...just take it.

Uthoff is not shooting as well as earlier in B1G when he was POY. That said, our defense is way down and not getting stops...so hard to win a grinder game like this. Maybe seniors will turn the ship around....or maybe not. A loss to Wisconsin at home would be disastrous.
