Nate "The Great" became the latest hero in Hawkeye
history at Kinnick Stadium. He threw 5 touchdown passes
against the 6th ranked Buckeyes to lead Iowa to an upset
victory. Stanley looked poised and polished as he picked
apart the vaunted Ohio State defense.

Bottom Line: Nate has thrown 22 TD passes this season
as a rookie sophomore. Congrats to Nate for being great.

What is the Iowa TD record for the season? He has the record for one game now.

The GOOD NEWS is that Nate will be at Iowa for
his Junior and Senior year. This is a young team
with some great freshmen filling in key roles.

I think Dolphin said the single game record was for a Ferentz team. Chuck Long had six in the Freedom Bowl against Texas. In the rain....no less! Great job Nate and O line.

22 TDs is tied for 5th place in a season. 1. Long (Sr.) 27 2. Banks (Sr.) 26 3. 3. tie Vandenberg (Jr.) & Stanzi (Sr.) 25 5. Tie Stanley (So.) Tate (Jr.) & Long (Jr.) 22

With four games to go that 32 season old record just might get broken this season. Maintaining his current average Nate should throw about 7 more TDs and 800 more yards. Of course, nothing is a given, especially for Iowa.

But........this youngster is very good already and heading up not down.

With 32 passes and 38 runs, the Hawkeyes had a
balanced offensive attack. It made both phases
more effective. You have to run in order to make
the passing game work like it did today.

We threw a lot on 1st down before we got big lead--that was the break from past tendency. I think I saw a draw play, which I hadn't all season. We passed to our snapper. Stanley punted. I think it is safe to say Ohio State wasn't expecting a lot of the things we did.

Chuck Long was accurate but didn't have the arm strength Stanley has.
Not sure on this. I remember Long was unstoppable throwing sideline out passes and hitting the guy about 1 yard inbounds on his way out. And it seemed like the passes were from center of field to sideline about 30 yards down - so about 50 yards on a rope.

Agree with this. Our passing game backed OSU off the LOS. It was the passing game that set up the running game.

Nate Stanley is 6 foot 5 inches.. Chuck Long was
a few inches shorter. Chuck had better receivers
than Stanley. The running backs probably about
even for both of these QB's. The difference in their
career will probably be the arm strength of Stanley
versus the mobility of Long.
