NCAA Placement Matches Thread

Bull has earned the right to make that call himself.
Then why even have coaches?

I don't think Marinelli went down in any of the matches where he beat Wick, but today seemed like a good time to change up a winning strategy?

I am sorry, I love Marinelli but the coaches need to do what's best for the wrestler and the team in those situations.

Now Batisda and Buchanan about dump the scorers table over! SMH
Yeah I’m amazed no one has gotten seriously hurt this weekend. But these are wrestlers so even if someone did get hurt you probably would not be able to tell. If this year has confirmed anything for me it’s that wrestlers are just different people. Any other sport with a torn ACL they start rolling on the ground, in this sport that same injury just means a knee brace and a Pat on the shoulder.

Marinelli owned Wick from his feet, and other than their first meeting I think he got out from bottom OK but could be mistaken. I don't doubt that Wick took top a time or two with his choice but not certain. Bull had his number, he wrestled like shit today and got beat.

If Kerkvilet wins by bonus then that secures PSU the team title. I don't see it against Parris. Only a matter of time though.

no he basically never got out. he would get the takedowns. wick would choose top and bull would lay on his belly and stall to weather the storm. that’s the first time he’s chosen down since the 16-3 drubbing in 2018.

I actually thought the exact same thing - it was his choice.
This is one area in the sport where I really disagree with a lot of people's strategy. People make terrible decisions regarding starting position all the time. In what other sport do people choose to put their opponent in an advantageous position. Don't I want to spend as much time as possible in my best position. People overvalue the escape point and undervalue the opportunity cost in time by ceding the advantage to your opponent. It's terrible strategy.

This reminds me of prospect theory which basically is that losing something hurts more than gaining something equivalent feels good. People look at not going for the escape as a lost point and worry but that they will lose a close match because of it. But fail to consider that choosing down can also cost points in lst opportunity.

Here is a thought. Watch what kerk does against paris and try to replicate. I know he is more athletic than tony but some of it can be replicated. Im sure almost everyone on here has thought this for some time on here as I have.

If that's true then it was indeed a bad choice by whomever made it. Regardless Bull beat him 4 in a row and I don't think they were in doubt much. I don't recall any nail biters anyway.

Our guys have given up an embarrassing amount of back points this tournament. Way too many neutral danger exposures!
We need to start coaching these positions and putting our opponents on the receiving end and learning to bail out when we're in trouble.
I thought ADS did against Byrd...ref didn't agree with me

Most of those matches were complete nail biters by my memory!

Edit: looked it up,

Bull won 4-3, 6-4 in SV, 2-1, and 4-2.

I believe the strategy was to get two takedowns in the first period because he was likely to get ridden out if I remember right.

Do not understand why we constantly take the down position against top riders.Marinelli today had choice and took down and quickly lost six points?
