NCAA Quarterfinals Thread

The ‘I only watch in March’ crowd doesn’t care about that.
i’ve been here all year and have been saying this all year. this is just blind homerism. if you actually want this team to start wrestling to expectations in march, you should recognize the need for some changes. unless you think 12 straight years of this is just a coincidence?

Between NIL, Spencer, and the new facility, things are looking great for us.

Unfortunately we were the one being defensive here.

Sure. But not like Amine was offensive. The dude did nothing with Marinell's leg in the air for the minute. It almost seemed like his game plan was to just burn the entire period up in that position and being content not scoring off it.

Depends on whose expectations. 2020 and 2021 were great years. In 2018, we were predicted to finish 8th...finished third.
2021 wasn’t great. that team should have won by 40+ points.

the problem is that if we look at the trend, this team probably needs to be 15-20 pts better than 2nd place to win when you consider the drop in performance and it’s really hard to assemble a team that good.

people also forget that one reason the 2020 team would have been a big favorite is because psu lost a returning champ to injury.

Sorry all but if you don't see recurring themes here that are directly related to strength and conditioning, you're in denial. Sure hope with the state of the art new facility we're planning on state of the art s&c program leader to go with it. Bull lost bc he had nothing left physically and that shouldn't be happening to a wrestler of his caliber.
Agreed. I was shocked to see him more gassed than amine in the third. Even with the 10 min video review.

Maybe it’s you that needs to re-evaluate.

I wouldn't rule out burn-out playing a role here too. Six/seven years is a long time to spend in a college sport, especially one as intense and brutal as Iowa wrestling.
It is, but it's a tired excuse IMO. Lot of people wrestle beyond College, some of them with little chance to do anything meaningful internationally, but they still do it. If your heart's not in it, take your degree and get out of the way and let the next man in. Your teammates deserve better, IMO (and I'm not accusing any Iowa Wrestler's of this BTW).

Did anyone else listen to brands interview with Lex Fridman? Something that stuck with me was when Fridman brought up the increase science on weight cutting/management and the rule changes. Brands basically just said you aren't hungry once you work out and nothing else. lol. Can't help but wonder if maintaining an old school mentality on weight cutting isn't hindering us and contributing to the injuries.

I don’t see the culture changing next year, It’s hard to believe tnt are teaching such tentative wrestling.
125 sure Lee murders ppl. 133 Cullen untested. 141/149 murin solid the other weight untested. 57 gaping hole. 65 solid. 74 brands ehh. 84 Assad so ya. 97 Warner so 3-1 wins. Hwt cass wil
Next year going to be rough. I see AA from Spencer, Warner and Cass with Murin and Kennedy a possibility. Everyone else has a good ways to go to be in that discussion.

That's exactly what he was doing. Burning clock.
