NCAA Tourney Session I Thread

Stoll needs to stop. Inferior wrestlers are beating him because he can't fight back. Would rather he save it for next year than fluck that knee up worse than he already has!!

Well, been a long time since we were eliminated in the 1st round, but that's the case in 2016. Time to cheer from Individual Champs

i don't disagree with anything you said, but would you prefer i make a comparison to Cael and PSU wrestling of the last 5 years? that one isn't much better. iowa needs more than 'grinding' and 'intensity.' these guys need to learn how to attack. i'm not sure brands knows how to teach it.
No easy matches at the Nationals....this is a chance for the underdogs to prove themselves...Penn St makes it look easy now because they have the top dogs coming in every year. Simple as that.

Well the Hawks are toast for a team title but still plenty of good individual things to go for. Lets just hope they look good the rest of the tournament and build for a title run next year.

Down to six, but it's a very good six with only Cooper not having a chance at the finals. We might not be able to keep up, but I think we'll at least have people to cheer on Friday and Saturday night.

I realize that the Brands style is more grinding and intensity, but It's not necessarily the coach's fault - he does the best with what he has. Just because PSU has had recent success with a different style, I wouldn't be too quick to abandon the Hawks style. Hopefully the recruits we're now getting will give us better results.

Tough first round for the Hawks. Really thought we could advance 7-8 into the 2nd Round winners bracket. Meyers loss was a huge hit. Just feel awful for Sam Stoll......hopefully he is 100% healthy by the time next season rolls around.

Burak will need to wrestle way better than he did in his last match if he wants to win another match let alone make the finals. Gilman, Clark and Brooks all looked really good and have a decent shot at doing well. Gilman is wrestling for 1-4 still and Clark is wrestling for either 2nd or 4th so there's still a great shot at at least 2 finalists. Brooks looking like he has a shot as well. Sorenson finishing anything other than 2nd would be surprising still.

Feel really bad for Stoll. He had a great freshman campaign that unfortunately unraveled due to injury. He will be back and looking for a spot on the podium. Count on it.

Yup there went a shot at AA.

Everybody did their part except you know who. Stoll has a lot of heart but couldn't even do anything from the top. Noon is not chopped liver but Burak looked too hesitant. All six need to make it to quarters.

Ramos looked gassed his whole match so there may be a chance.

Crazy round

Heal up big guy. Thanks for giving a go with an obviously hurt knee. We can still get 2nd. 6 can still be AAs. We still have a Big 5 core, and coop looks good! Don't count him out!

Concur...that's the only way Meyer can keep moving...if Ramos' tank runs dry. That said, with as many ranked 174s that went down in Session 1, Meyer is TOAST. Hate it for the kid, but he just hasn't had it this year.

Style, athletes, talent... whatever it may be it lies on the coaches. Just as they deserve credit when the team does well they deserve the same critique when they don't. Different era or whatever you want to call it this is 6 years running without a championship in Iowa City. That is on the coaches. You can't annually have 2-3 huge holes on your lineup and hope to win a championship. That simply has to change if Iowa is to win it all again.

Here's to the guys left and hopefully they can bring home some individual hardware.

Can't win the tournament in the 1st session. But you can sure lose it.

Pumpdog, the Hawks will overtake Nebby in the next few rounds. Gilman has Lambert next match, Clark will match up against Montoya, Sorenson against Sueflohn and Brooks vs Dudley in the quarters if they all win their next match. I have confidence that Gilman, Clark and Sorenson will win but Brooks Dudley could be considered a tossup.

Meyer has been the biggest disapointment on the mat this year. Feel bad for Stoll. Will the Hawks finish higher then 4th? Go Hawks!!!
