***NCAA Women’s Tournament: Iowa Vs Central Michigan Thread***

Perhaps this is not something they can overcome because of lack of athleticism.......but a simple adjustment of trying harder to take away the lane on defense would do wonders for their currently piss poor defensive play.

Every time late in the shot clock they kick to the wing, she gives a shot fake, our girl lunges waaaay unnecessarily late, and concedes the lane for a better shot than if our player had forced the offense baseline................

Try f***ing harder, please. Thank you.

Catchings was born with a hearing impairment in both ears. Her parents bought her aids. But back then, those hearing aids were huge and clunky. She had speech problems. Kids teased her for the way she talked, for the hearing aids.

Yet, what was miserable for young Catchings, who said she just wanted to "be normal," turned into something great. Sports.

"In the classroom, kids could make fun of me for being different," Catchings told ESPN. "On the soccer field (my first sport) and eventually the basketball court, they couldn't. I outworked them, plain and simple. Eventually, I was better than them."

Throughout her life, Catchings has opted to go without hearing aids, relying on lip reading, instead. Today, she wears a special athletic pair when playing or when she's out making appearances. But when she's just hanging out, she prefers no aids.

What a coincidence. Iowa does a slightly better job of taking away the lane and Central Michigan scoring cools off...........

Wonders never cease.

I knew it was gonna be something like this. Now I feel bad.

Dumb to have Monika trying to play defense outside the lane. Ya it may make a guard take a longer route, but it's not worth it. Takes her too long to get back under the basket when the opponent sends a slip / pick & roll.

I get what you’re saying and obviously a great player. But not everyone is cut out for every thing. Color commentators need to be knowledgeable but also be palatable to the ear.

I think Warnock comes off the bench next year. She plays well for stretches then disappears and makes silly mistakes

Unless Ediger is amazing Warnock is still going to start and play big minutes. She's the best rebounder on the team by a decent amount and is arguably the team's best defender.

Great win for a young team that was obviously nervous, but Caitlin brings them home!

Any have a good brief scouting report for Kentucky? Are we about to get blown out?

Watched about three game minutes of Kentucky. They appear to be pretty athletic and quick which will cause our defensive issues to be issues. I realize I’m basing it on a minutely small window of viewing, but our gals will need to be very efficient and rebound well or it could get away from them.
