New Iowa Baseball Stadium: The $27.4 million Renovation Was Supposed to Start after 2024 Season & Be Done by 2025 Season

This thread is starting to remind me of one last year which involved the question of whether Omaha was a good location for the B1G baseball tournament.

prove me wrong.
Again? Okay.

Kinnick Stadium expanded to 70,397 in about 89/90? It expanded to 70,585(the largest it has ever been) in 2005. It retracted to 69,250 after the last renovation. That was off the top of
My head.

The capacity of Carver I had to look up, but it retracted to 15,056 in 2018. I believe it will retract a bit more due to the tunnel coming in from the new wrestling facility, but I can’t guarantee that.

Here’s something I’m guessing I can get you to agree with. The earth is flat, and 6,000 years old.

Apologies to goiowaawesome for getting sucked into Karnack/dacoach/the 8 other names he’s had.

I am ashamed.😔

oh boy they were small decreases and have nothing to do with a new BB stadium.

also since the stadium is being paid for by donor their is no expense and only potential addition in revenue. hmmmmm
increased revenue
vs
o increase in building costs

that is a no brainer the increased revenue wins out every time.

You’re correct on every point in the entire thread. Not even debatable.

If I had to guess Iowa averages around 600 fans per home game, their current venue seats 2500 and I cannot remember the last time they ever sold it out (I'm sure it's happened). So magically the baseball program is going to make more money buy building an even bigger stadium spending a ton of donor money as if donors are lined up to offer this sort of money.

The worst part is these points have been made repeatedly and by more than 1 person and yet this thread is now 3 pages old because 1 person on here doesn't understand that Hawkeye baseball is not a hot ticket.

the weather they play in has a major effect on how many fans show up. would you like to sit in a game being played in 35-40 degree weather or would you prefer 70 and up? remember they start playing in Feb. do you go at that time. I would guess not many do.

that is why Iowa goes to California, Texas and Florida to play in those Baseball tournies

Facts? Overrated!!
Iowa needs to build a 12,000 seat dome for baseball. A retractable roof so when the weather is nice it can open up.
They can encroach on the outdoor football practice fields, they have an indoor field of their own to use. People we need to think big!!!
Reality and facts can’t be a deterrent!!!

I for one am putting on my red slippers, clicking my heals and saying ‘we need to build a dome’

what did you walk thru the Vatican? or did God take a dump in your house?
Yes to the latter. It was delicious.

It gave me the power to realize that it’s cold in Iowa in the spring, and baseball attendance suffers greatly.

I am running out to tell everybody right now!!!!!

So build a 8000 seat stadium for those handful of games that are 70 degrees on up? This makes zero sense.

think of the other venues that can be held there. during the off season.

They are going to bring other venues to the baseball stadium venu?
Perhaps you meant events at the venue?
Or we can talk other factual things you struggle with

events at the new venue. is that better? it is/can be used for more than just baseball.

if enough interest/money then think about enclosing it. then it can be used year round.

events at the new venue is much better. It is accurate. Build the dome, build the dome, build the dome....... Can we get some concerts like Springsteen? U2? Innings Festival?

Yep - this.

Against my better judgment, I'm going to chime in . . . what other "non-baseball events" are you contemplating?

Before answering, I'm curious as to what other "non-baseball events" are hosted at Principal Park in Des Moines (capacity = 11,500), what other "non-baseball events" are hosted at Veteran's Memorial Park in Cedar Rapids (capacity = 5,300); what other "non-baseball events" are hosted at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport (capacity = 7,140)?

Before answering, I'm also curious as to why you believe that the "non-baseball event" would be best hosted at a re-designed Duane Banks Field as opposed to (a) Kinnick Stadium; (b) Carver-Hawkeye Arena; (c) Hancher Auditorium or (d) XStream Arena?

I'll sit back and await your answer . . . .

Really disappointed Aurora couldn’t produce the remaining eligibility and star ranking of all those baseball venues.

Sad.

don't know if Springsteen is still performing as for U2 they are getting up there in age. but there are enough of the hot younger groups out there along with Rap groups that these youngsters like.

packing that stadium will be a piece of cake even at ticket prices at $15- $20 each.

that would make a quick $150,000 to $200,000 per event and that does not include the revenue from concessions. hold 4 events in the off season that could mean a extra $600,000 to $800,000 per year.

making money has always been one of my strong suits. there are/will be more times to hold one of these events.

even the UNI Dome in CF gets used for non athletic events.and they draw quite the crowds over 4 days for just 1 event.

that event happens in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids and the crowds are all about the same in attendance.

accessability is the 1st obstical to holding any event.

concerts would fit into that new stadium quite easily.

craft shows would fit in quite nicely venders can put up their booths all over the field.

the income would be about $30,000 to $50,000 from one of those shows. the UNI dome holds about 10,000 fans.

what type of events o they hold in the Wells Fargo building hold? obviously you can't hold a Farm Machinery event.

imagine trying to get a 8 wheel tractor in there or maybe a Combine inside. now try and use some common sense in what type of events that could be held inside.

concerts were the 1st events that came to mind, more people more money for admission.

Just use common sense, fellas.

Book Taylor Swift, and watch 8,000 seats gone immediately. What’s she charge? $25 a ticket? $200k we’re missing out on if Banks doesn’t expand to 8,000, and it’s free money due to donors paying for it!

Why are you all so stupid!?!?!?!?

Don't forget to pay the acts.

You're already in the hole.
that what the price of admission is figured into. nobody sells tickets so they lose money. as for Swift she performs at events like the Super Bowl or venues that hold 50,000 fans or more she makes the big bucks not chump change at a small venue like I am talking about with a new Base ball stadium in IC Iowa. now if it was to be held in Kinnick that's a whole another topic.

put a revolving stage in the middle of the FB field then you might get Swift to listen.

Then you just charge $5000 a ticket!

A 3 day festival would be awesome. I have seen Snoop Dog in am Iowa jersey so he would be there. Not sure he’s big enough to fill the Duane Banks dome but it’s a start. Sell Swarm beer by the truckload. Millions per event if it could just get built. Can they fit a second deck in the dome? Certainly they could sell 40-50 skyboxes at top dollar. Field of Dreams II

get your money out. then start the petition out.

yeah sure. any other bright Idea's?
Yes.

I think Iowa should build an 8,000 seat baseball stadium(possibly with a dome) for a fan base that currently fills an average of about 700 seats a game. Then have craft shows in the stadium in the offseason to make an unfathomable amount of money.

I’m hoping we can get it done before Bezos steals my idea.

You said you would make $150-200k.

Selling 7500 tickets at $20 a pop is $150k.

That's before having to pay the act, staff, etc. You're breaking even at best.

I’m sold, let’s build this domed baseball stadium! I’m all for Taylor Swift coming to Iowa City along with craft shows.

Let‘s do this!

paying the event people is figured into cost of the ticket and my numbers were based on 10,000 not 7,500
10,000 X $15 = 150,000
10,000 X $20 = 200,000

and that did not count the money from concession sales.if it cost more than planned then the have the option of charging more,

the price of admission is determined by the event. the craft shows don't cost as much to get in,

I have no idea about getting into a craft show but I would guess around $5.00 each and less for children, then the vender pays for their booth, same thing with the sport show in the UNI Dome the venders pay to set up in the Dome and the patrons have to pay to get in.

after awhile that started to bite the UNI Dome people in the ass. as the venders stop going and held their own special to get the people to come into their building.

sometimes you can charge yourself out of a good thing with how much you charge and who you charge.

I took some of my sporting goods to display and sell to a couple of the UNI Dome sports shows till it no longer paid as they kept wanting more each year. same thing Cattle Congress toward the end they wanted not only rental on the booth but they also wanted a % of the money the venders made.

the vender slowly stopped showing up and even some of the rides stopped showing up.

I remember going and the livestock barns were full the entire the fair ran, now if there were any lifestock being shown they just stay for their animals to be shown and then they leave because it got to expensive to stay longer talk about killing the golden goose.

this was over 10 years ago. since then Mesqraki bought the grounds and buildings and the CC is a shadow of what it once was.

my idea of a domed baseball field was a simple idea, now it has been hijacked and morphed into a unrealistic produc, that is going to generate millions per event.

this board has dropped to the depths of hell. where a simple idea is twisted to the point of making millions per event.

god help us all.
