**NEW** Iowa Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread

Well we have the best C Bluder's ever recruited coming in 2024 -- they may not want to recruit another C when we may very well have 3 great players for '23-'24 at that position.
We all know that this year's recruiting is hampered by honoring the Ava Jones commitment. That was absolutely the right thing to do, but unless someone from the team exits via the portal, we have no more scholarship spots. I'm surprised that the U hasn't figured out a way to keep Ava on scholarship, while opening up her spot on the team. Caitlin won't be here forever, and if we we could find a way to add that athletic 4/5 either as a recruit or in the portal, Iowa WBB will be a force again; and provide a sense of continuance beyond Caitlin's departure.
I think they know Ava is almost certainly going on a medical hardship scholarship. But until she actually enrolls, is on campus and evaluated by medical staff maybe required before going that route is an option.

Any idea how Iowa prioritizes Hargrove, Mallegni, any other remaining targets?
My guess is one of Hargrove or Mallegni are the priority because the team needs someone that can play the 4. Jones was supposed to fill that role for 2023, but I don't think Iowa can rely on her contributing with what she has to overcome.

The 2024 class right now has two guards and a 5. If they don't get a 4 in 2024 that's two straight classes without someone likely to play meaningful minutes at the position.

FWIW we know Mallegni has Iowa in her Top 7. Most of Hargrove's recent likes on Twitter have been Iowa WBB content. That seems like a pretty clear sign Iowa and the players still have mutual interest.

Saw an interview with Gyamfi's *parents and they seemed to say she had been injured this year. She is from Johnson is a freshman Hawkeye this year. What is known about her. ? Injuries, talents etc. She is 6-1. Johnston really womped the others last year. Undefeated I think.

We sat behind Ava and her brother at the Final Four and she was walking but very noticeably struggling getting around. She's a long way out from even trying to get back to normal walking let alone basketball. Tough seeing that.

Hargrove certainly has interest. But she also just visited Illinois (like yesterday) so she is still playing the game.

Right and Mallegni is taking visits this summer too. It's entirely possible Iowa doesn't get either.

I'm just suggesting that they are more likely than say Britt Prince who has visited a ton of schools and who would be the third guard in the class.

This is one of the open questions... Lisa said she is a 3/4 that they kept exclusively at the 4 this year so she could focus on learning one position. Sge was definately hurt to start the year, so was a bit behind? Then trapped behind Mkenna/Stuelke/Wettering for minutes. Top 100 recruit, seems to be athletic, but most people on the boards thought she was goign to have a harder tiome getting on the floor than Mccabe and Stuelke. She didnt show enough one was or another in live games to form much of an opinion. I think a lot depends on how much she develops in the off-season and how the other 3/4 options progress.

Will be interesting to see if Hargrove finds a place in the Hoopgurlz ratings when they are updated. On a local Illinois level, Prep Girls Hoops had her at # 6 last fall in the '24 class, and now has her as # 2 in Illinois.

In my opinion, the best player comparison to Gyamfi is none other than our own McKenna Warnock -- n terms of height, build, athleticism, shooting stroke, versatility/ability to play inside and outside. If we didn't have Wetering and Stuelke on the roster she'd be the obvious candidate to play the 4 in our system. But both Wetering and Stuelke bring something slightly different to that position. If the coaches ever want Gyamfi and Stuelke on the court at the same time, Stuelke will need to play the 5 or Gyamfi will need to play the 3.

What's the word on the 6'7" girl from Stanford? Went to the same high school as O'Grady and played on a team with CC.

Betts was a favorite target of Clark at the Worlds in Hungary. If Iowa were to land Betts it would be a game changer. (Would require someone to enter the portal or Jones to take a medical hardship).
What Center wouldn't love to play with Clark? Especially if you're 6'7"! That's basically free money for Clark.

Best part is that this would mean for sure that Stuelke can stay at 4. Would feel bad for O'Grady though.

Wetering was actually brought in to play the 3 but can play either the 3 or 4. She is actually a high percentage shooter from outside. I expect her playing time to increase significantly next season but I'm unsure where she'll end up playing. There are so many interchangeable parts on next years roster other than PG where Clark/Davis are basically locked. My best prediction for next year if everyone returns and Jones doesn't take a hardship.

PG Clark/Davis
SG Marshall/McCabe/Davis/Feuerbach
SF Affolter/Feuerbach/Wetering
PF Martin/Wetering/Gyamfi
C Stuelke/O'Grady/Goodman/Ediger

Redshirts Jones, Johnson-Ettiene

Drama queen. Known more for off-court/non-basketball than on court. She'll find a landing spot, but I doubt her options will be as numerous as she thinks.
Can you elaborate on this please? If it’s bad I can’t see Bluder offering her even if someone else transfers out.

Doesn't necessarily mean bad news for O'Grady. O'Grady came to Iowa as a 4/5 and was working on her outside game last summer.

Stuelke can play the 3-5 so she will always find herself with minutes somewhere.

O'Grady and Betts were teammates in HS so I don't think O'Grady would be too upset. She seems content to play and be on the team regardless of what her role is on the team.

Yes, that was in response about Sedona Prince, the 6'7 young lady transferring from Oregon.

Just realized something. I follow Hannah's dad on Twitter. He is very opinionated. Tweets about WBB everyday, I'd say. Isn't afraid of chiming in.

He has been radio silent regarding all things transfers/roster management even in the face of a lot of people saying things that could very well impact his daughter significantly....

Adding this to Clark's "like" of the Betts post and Raina following Morrow...I'd be surprised if something isn't afoot.

Stulke can do it. If she can learn how to shoot free throws this offseason and either learn to dribble or figure out how to be effective without dribbling like Czinano has she can definitely be one of those players.
I find Stulke to be athletic, but kind of stiff and mechanical in her movements. We'll see if she can smooth out her game next year.

Never have enough Bigs...could always play two at the same time and throw it back and forth against backboard until it goes in. Worked for LSU and South Carolina. Nice to have 10 fouls to give in the middle, too. Let's the players get after without worrying about their fouls. Be nice to have someone who could throw it back in Angel Reese's face, too.

Maybe CC can get enough NIL money she can give up her scholarship to get the missing piece she needs!

Yes, exactly. Every game where Czinano was in foul trouble was a huge concern for me/us. I just worry if O'Grady will be okay with taking the back seat as well as Heiden when she gets here. I don't know how they'll view it is all.

WTF "sources suggest..." in the headline but then no mention of them in the body...
True, true. There is a lot of smoke with back and forth for her admiration of Caitlin over the last two weeks. They've got screenshots that any of us can see in the commentary. Our NIL is apparently doing very well in women's basketball at the moment according to Eickholdt as well.

I have trepidation because I'm an Iowa fan but it truthfully seems like she does have some interest based on all the chatter. Apparently her sister is pretty damn good too.

We have connections to her in multiple ways. I'm going to just let it play out but this actually seems like it could be a legit thing that has some legs. How sturdy, we still don't know.

I think we did pursue Betts but she was focused on Stanford. We got O’Grady, which was not a bad consolation. If we can get Betts after all this time it would be like another helping of dessert

She would have to prove she is better than O'Grady after being in different programs for college.
