**NEW** Iowa Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread

Yes, exactly. Every game where Czinano was in foul trouble was a huge concern for me/us. I just worry if O'Grady will be okay with taking the back seat as well as Heiden when she gets here. I don't know how they'll view it is all.
Well, I think O'Grady can be decent but she needs to work on a lot of things this offseason. There are certainly easier ways to get better than hoping O'Grady vastly improves, but things could happen.

Sedona Prince does play the 5, but is a skilled player who is often injured too. Lisa won't consider bringing in a player that drama seems to follow, mostly off the court non-basketball drama. I don't think transfer options will be as numerous as she thinks, maybe USC (Southern Calif.) or Arizona would be interested in her services for a year.

I believe she posted “do not contact me“ so it would seem she has already been recruited and has a destination picked out.
My guesses are LSU (she almost went to Baylor) or MS state (her old Asst Coach is there now as HC, breathing life into the program).

Hearing some UCLA and Washington chatter as well. Washington (home state) would be an absolute shocker unless it’s something family related.

Some people are saying Indiana… not sure how I feel about that. I think Donarski (as @undersized_post mentioned on CF 😜) is a better fit. Michigan also needs a PG…

Pretty much settles it. If nobody transfers, we can't get her. The only way for this to happen is if someone willingly leaves of their own choosing. I don't want anyone pushed out and it's not right to do so. It is what it is unless we hear about a transfer out. Bluder won't force anyone out, we know that, nor should she.

I don’t think anything is settled. These things have a way of working themselves out.

Could be true. None of us know. We may not get it sorted out quick enough though and Betts goes elsewhere beforehand. Or, maybe it's already a done deal and us fans don't know. She is the ideal of what we need next season. Not a lot of girls like that available.

Personally, I think the coaching staff knows there is a transfer or two or else they wouldn't be following other players.

The medical scholarship rules are really unfair to the player and school. They should not be treated the same as a normal athletic scholarship and count against a school since that player can’t ever play for that team.

There is a special one for can't ever play (medically retired), but Jones is still acting like she wants to eventually play.

What players (plural) have they recently followed? I had mentioned Raina following Morrow but that could very well have been from her HS recruiting. Not sure we actually have proof it was recent, tbh. The Caitlin liking Betts tweet is certainly interesting but again, wondering if there’s another follow I’m unaware of…

It's a hard limit of 15 players.
Do you know if that’s the case with walk-ins? I did some googling and it seems football teams have plenty of walk-ons that go way beyond the roster limit; and some walk-ons have even had their way tuition paid via collectives (most notably the BYU football team — corporate donation paid for ALL walk on tuition).

It’s very much possible a rule forbids this in Wbb but the fact that there’s precedent in men’s sports has made me reconsider my hard stance against giving “creative NIL solutions” any oxygen. I even found an article that outlines the exact process by which a kid can remain a “walk on” (basically you just can’t meet in person off campus and you can’t take an official visit). It’s a common path in football.

I have asked a few places for people to provide a policy that forbids it but haven’t gotten any takers. Again, I’m not 100% convinced it’s possible bc there may indeed be a (potentially sexist) rule that forbids walk-ons above the roster limit for WBB but as far as I can tell it seems like a real possibility. But do we rly have the boosters who want to pay probably well over $100k for two years of tuition / living expenses / real cash that would actually be enough to entice a player like Betts anyway?

Every year one of two athletes or teams have a tragic / unfair / frustrating / unbelievable case which ****s them over, but the NCAA is pretty strict in enforcing their policies and rarely if ever make exceptions. It is what it is.

With the way NIL is being policed it’s unfortunate that the medical side still has to abide by an unfair rule.

The men’s team carried 15 players, 3 above the limit of 12. Don’t see why the women can’t exceed their limit.

Interesting. I don’t follow MBB, those extras were walk-ons? I also thought 13 was the limit, not 12.

FWIW, when Morrow made her announcement, Harmon was not following. I checked 30 minutes later and she was.

Also, big get with Teagan. Currently the 59th best 2024 prospect by ESPN.
