**NEW** Iowa Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread

She had a “oh sh*t was I supposed to say that?” moment lol and texted CC I believe to be like “hey was this not public knowledge or…”
Not sure how many people were on the board here 4 years ago, but that all played out on here too. Notre Dame insiders said Clark verbally committed to them on a visit but she didn't make it official and announce anything. A bit later, a poster here with some connection to All Iowa Attack said Clark would commit to Iowa in the next couple days and she did the second day.

Remember this timeline, but don’t recall explanation for change of heart.

This thread was started back in August, is 28 pages long and has over 1,000 comments in it. What once was a valuable and informative thread has been dragged through the mud by a few individuals.

I’ll make this clear. Keep race, politics, and religion off the damn sports message boards. People don’t come here to read anyone’s opinion on that crap. Go somewhere else with your damn nonsense.

Thanks for the insight! I figured it had something to do with ND’s collapse / MM retiring that year, guess it was a little more simple lol.

I 100% agree that no one should be arguing in favor or against any kind of politics or policy on this thread. I haven’t done that and will not. I have no desire to convince anyone here of anything regarding either.

But to say that we should ignore the huge elephant in the room (which is emblematic of the reason Iowa WBB was in the national spotlight for a full week after the NC game) when it comes to recruiting is to bury our heads in the sand.

If people here are that shocked by my comments about our team’s (largely unfair) reputation, I urge them to read and watch more about WBB than only our own games and this message board. It’s a big world out there and there are many strong opinions about our team and the world of WBB at large. Much of them are intertwined with women’s rights, lgbt rights, and race. If you’re really a fan of this team and the game, it’s the least you can and should do. Wbb isn’t like other sports in that these athletes struggle on a whole other level for credibility and opportunity. There’s no leaving to go pro after a year. Your team is your tribe. These issues have outsize influence in this game.

Btw I haven’t even mentioned the worst of what is said about our team and coach, so please spare me the histrionics. You can bet I’m in there defending them — but it can be frustrating, even exhausting. It’s relentless at times.

Do I think we have a chance with Morrow and Betts? Sure. Id love to prove the haters wrong. Id love to start a new era. Id love to demand the respect either commitment would come with. But both are uphill climbs and at the end of the day, I think we’ll look back on all the tweets and messages that say “Aneesah Morrow, you’re an Iowa Hawkeye!!” and “Welcome to Iowa Lauren Betts!!” and cringe.

I also think you should know our team doesn’t shy away from discussing these issues and many of our players and staff are much more opinionated about them than I have been here. So if you think I should keep my mouth shut, you definitely don’t wanna see what they have to say on Instagram.

This is the most pathetic white savior take I’ve seen on this board and it’s a great example of why SEC and ACC fans think we’re a joke. It’s why I saw someone QT the Chantel J post (about Iowa offering Morrow) and say “Iowa? Just no.” Clicked on her profile, sure enough she was a SC fan. SC fans have been talking about Iowa (and only Iowa) in this way for YEARS now and aren’t stopping anytime soon.

This dismissive opinion of Iowa that has taken root — that we don’t stand for anything, that we’re just momentarily fulfilling the Great White Hope, that we’re not a place black kids should go, that all of our fans are MAGA — is due in no small part to attitudes like this.

“For many urban families, Iowa represents family and safety” — GIRL PLEASE. CRINGE. As opposed to black excellence, Iowa for many represents white mediocrity. This basic take is white mediocrity at best.

Please delete your comment before Black Twitter screenshots it and comes for us. Barf.

Oh god it’s getting worse lmao. Again, I don’t care how you feel. I don’t live in Iowa and I’m not going to argue politics or policy.

But you MUST understand this is NOT how most young GIRLS feel — especially if they’re black or queer (which I’d say accounts for at least half of elite recruits). And it’s not how most urban/suburban parents feel either. If we were talking recruiting small town Midwest kids, maybe it’s a different story. But we’re not.

So stop wondering why we can’t recruit better. A not insignificant part of it is this dynamic right here. Agree or disagree with the politics, these are the headlines and the stereotypes, and now, it’s also the reality. A lot working against us on the PR side of things.

Can we overcome it? I do hope so. With Clark, all things are possible. But again…temper your expectations people. It’ll take a miracle to get Betts or Morrow. Signing either would be a bigger deal than signing Clark, potentially a watershed moment for us even. All we can do is wait and see…
Amazing that Kansas State Men's Team was able to build a great team through the portal in Manhattan KS. Everything isn't about politics.

Certainly amazing! It’s definitely not everything. Never said it was, just that we have a lot of things working against us, these hot button issues being one of them.

So it’s not everything, but it’s something. And top recruits can and will find a place that offers, well, everything.

Do you know if the KSU men’s team has a reputation like our women’s team? I don’t follow men’s bball, I’d love to hear more. Did they win the NC this year?

If you are just bringing your "hot take" on politics to a BB message board and you don't even know if KSU won the NC or not, this really is not the place for you. You are embarrassing.

I don't watch MBB but I watch a shit ton of WBB and have for many years. This thread is about WBB not MBB. I promise you my posts are far from a hot take. They're only a hot take if you only pay attention to Iowa sports or you only discuss it with people on this board.

Please, continue to bury your head in the sand, I don't really care. Just don't come back here posting "WHY OH WHY DID LAUREN BETTS CHOOSE (insert school) OVER IOWA?!?!" in a few weeks. It's pretty obvious why to those of us who actually know about how this sport works and aren't just bandwagon fans that want to own Iowa State fans in perpetuity.

All I'll do is reference my original post which mentioned a handful of factors (also including a relative lack of post-season success, especially compared to the blue bloods, a lower general level of competition in the Big Ten when compared to other P5 conferences, and pretty bland natural surroundings and lack of nearby major cities when compared to say UCLA or UConn -- not to mention Bluder's age/potentially impending retirement, which likely impacts HS kids more than transfers) that have hindered our recruiting prowess for years and likely aren't changing anytime soon.

So LA, AL,GA and FL are liberal hotbeds? Please. I WILL deny that this is a factor for a 'LOT' of recruits and more representative of your political leanings than reality. Repressive and regressive? You're trying waaaay too hard. How about safe and secure compared to most places with a friendly, supportive culture? Do you think anybody thinks about that these days? You better believe they do.
Safe and secure…great we’re allowing guns on campus…isn’t it? That’s a real winner in appealing to this gen.

Many of us come to this forum to escape from the divisive nonsense but now, like everywhere else, it is unescapable so as with many non political forums, I am done. Goodbye! Its generally been a good fifteen year run but the end is here.

Dude, you're repeatedly posting long, long treatises on this forum which really belong on the OT board, and then when you say you're going to stop, you post yet another one. Seriously, stop. If I were a mod, I'd be close to banning you. Can we all PLEASE move along on this sort of stuff now? Thanks

ps: This goes for everyone else, too, on this subject. Thanks

Let me put it this way. If Aneesah Morrow chooses Iowa, she will 100% get blasted on Twitter by people saying she is a traitor to her community. That they’re disappointed in her. That she chose the MAGA school. Strangers will tag her, probably DM her. Maybe some people she knows or admires even. She knows that already actually.

Is it true? No. Is it bullsh*t? Yes. But it’s a lot to put on a 20 year old’s shoulders.

Keep that in mind when you say that “this topic has nothing to do with recruiting” and also when you say it’s a no brainer for her to pick Iowa. And please keep it in mind if she DOES pick Iowa, bc it will come at some personal cost that few of us understand.

I do not want Ware.

I'm not trying to be a downer, but right now I only see maybe 4 players in the portal that would move the needle for Iowa: Betts, Morrow, Van Lith, and Donarski.

So would you guys say if we don’t get Morrow or Betts, we likely would just be better off sticking with our current bigs (as opposed to adding someone else even for depth or what not)? Something to be said for keeping a spot for CC’s COVID yr and/or a new freshman.

I don’t recall! Some truths are hard. Feel free to mute me. Mods, feel free to ban me. It won’t stop everyone out there in WBB carrying on with their chatter about Iowa.

Sorry (but not sorry) to be the bearer of bad news that we’re not the new UConn lmao

I just gotta give a big WOW to all your stupid sounding posts. I think people come here to read about Iowa bball and women’s recruiting specifically in this thread. I mostly just read and look for info here and I haven’t lived in Iowa for 24 years. I don’t know your background but you sound very naive and bigoted. You should really just stop all this.

If you’re so mad about it you should go on Twitter, Reddit and TikTok and try to change the narrative bc I can’t do it alone amigo. I’m just the messenger telling y’all why the odds aren’t in our favor. It’s not my fault none of you pay attention to Wbb outside our team / this board.

Yeah you’re right. Just my imagination of what comes frequently into our EDs and trauma centers daily. Please share more about what you , and I, know about crimes and guns in novice hands. (My MC is not in IC… several hours away).

Iowa City is a great place to go to school and play sports….fam has 7 degrees from Iow….3 of us were with athletic teams. There is a cloud, and some responses reinforce it the view from afar

We got a fvcking idiot controlling the basketball thread on recruiting and the moderators don’t do a goddamn thing. TK and Blair would have kick your ass off this thread long ago. What a piece of work.

In an attempt to get this back on track...aside from Betts and Morrow, who else could possibly make an impact? I've previously mentioned Lauren Ware and Shay Bollin so I'm excluding them for now. Alanna Micheaux from Minnesota and Lehigh grad transfer Frannie Hottinger, who is from MN, seem to be it for forwards that have been productive.

I was thinking about Micheaux today. She is interesting. Offers some maturity, B1G experience. I actually could see Bluder looking at her if that’s what she thinks we need — a depth player who can put in valuable minutes where she’s needed (like Molly). And hey we obviously love recruiting from Michigan lol.

Are they 4s and 5s

Neither would play the 5. Demand far exceeds supply for those.
How bout you look them up yourself and learn more about the game :)
I will. Haven’t had time or cared, and figured some could fill in the blanks. I’m informed. A kiddo of mine just got done playing wbb(lower level). The familiar names from our days of immersion are a couple a years ahead…she did played against Clarke and AIA a couple of times. CC was playing up ;). Now that she’s done it’s pretty much Iowa(all sports) and Big Ten that uses most of my brain space

Read between the lines, you guys. He said "Annesah" Morrow.

Aneesah is a LOCK.

No way, I like your thinking though!

That'd be one hell of a troll job if true. It's so convenient and tactful it actually makes me wonder if you know something we don't.

It's just too perfect a troll job to be real. Good stuff though.

Frannie Hottinger. 6' 1" forward from Lehigh, averaged 20.3 and 9.5, Patriot League player of the year and now a graduate transfer... and from the Twin Cities. Possibility?

Based on highlights she's a great athlete and seems like a natural scorer. FG% and 3pt% are not great but I wonder if that's attributed to her usage. Highlights make it seem like she's ball-dominant player and not sure how that'd work with Clark. She could be a talented offensive weapon with decent size if she ate up some of McKenna's previous minutes.

Someone on Reddit said that Iowa WBB were in Phoenix 5 days ago. Anyone know why?
Was this a stop off after the Wooden ceremony?

Was Ware already in the portal?
