**NEW** Iowa Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread

I posted this (click to view / expand) in the '23-'24 WBB Season thread because it's really more appropriate for that thread at large, but it's also completely germane to the point under discussion in this thread, so quoting myself here:

Some very interesting analysis here....though any further discussion of the starting line-up for next year really should move to that thread tbh.
Interesting video. Those of us that went to the Swarm golf tourney this past week had the opportunity to talk with players. And every single one of them when asked how summer practices were going said the best player on the floor, besides Caitlin, so far this summer has been Taylor McCabe. Noticeably bigger (she said she's added 15# since end of season) in her upper body and scoring at 3 levels. A player manager told me at the tail end of last year she would average double figures this next season, may just be the case. you don't hear much about her on this board, will be interesting to see what coaches say at first interviews in July. Players also said Kylie isn't released yet so she isn't doing any live scrimmaging.

Actually I forgot what the golf tourneys I went to last week were for... the women's golf tournament was for their foreign trip, not the Swarm. The Swarm tourney was a different tourney they had. Both very enjoyable if people are on the fence about doing those, with great player and coach access as well.

Love this! Thanks for sharing. I will be shocked but elated if McCabe averages double figures but if that's the expectation, it certainly seems she may be in the running for a starting spot. So that'd put Marshall at the 3, Martin at the 4 and likely Stuelke at the 5? This would be a very fast line-up with insane shooting.

I've been impressed with Taylor's game, and assumed she'd be getting a lot of Gabby's minutes next season. Deadly 3, but also very quick. She did say she wanted to put on overall muscle weight (although 15# in 2.5 months sounds fanciful.) Bluder has said she wants her to improve her defense, and I think she will. But if she is also expanding her offensive game, driving, and assisting, she'll be on the floor a lot. I've also wondered whether she might develop some PG skills. Sorry to hear Kylie is not yet cleared. Might not get significant minutes until later in the season?

Raina is in Chicago -- I assume at the Champion Leagues Finals. She posted the following to her story this morning:

"Still excited about yesterday's games! Ended my night seeing a B1G Dawg and future hawk hit a game winner!"

I replied to the story by asking "Who?!" and she replied solely with the following: 👀

I found the following score from last night's 8:30 pm game at this tourney:

SoCal Stars 17U 52 | Let it Rain Open Black 17U 51.

Doesn't Addi Deal play for the SoCal Stars? Can anyone find out who made that game-winning shot? Or is there perhaps another game I missed? Their website is GOD AWFUL and navigating from game to game is torture so I couldn't go through them all.

Deal plays for Cal Stars & is in Chicago. Had 15 today in a loss to Boo Williams and 20 in a win against Exodus.
*edited, meant Chicago not Louisville...it was late🤦‍♂️

Also offered is Lily Williams, 6'5" PF/post, #1 player in MI.

Just to be correct, it's Lilly with 2 L's. There are some Lily Williams girls out there that also are basketball players.

Thanks, just a typo I didn't notice. But I looked at her highlights, and she is very athletic, talented. She's going to collect a lot of offers, and I expect she'll wind up in the top 50, maybe top 25 in 2026 class.

Any news on Britt Prince and her recruitment?

Just seems odd that nothing being mentioned about #25 player in country.

It's hard to get info on this, and Britt is apparently pretty comfortable with waiting as long as she wants. I have read that at one time Oregon was her "dream school", but might be gun-shy after all of the players transferring out over the past few seasons. She has at least 40 offers, including from major programs; all over the country. Maybe only her family and close friends know where she's leaning? She'd be a great fit with Iowa; and would be the heir apparent to CC. Maybe she's been waiting to see whether CC is going to commit to playing her covid year, because she doesn't want to be PG2? Not even sure if Bluder is still trying to recruit her.

The Oregon program is broken. Sydney Parrish (formerly of Oregon, now at Indiana) said that playing for there made her hate basketball. Jaz Shelley left to play Nebraska, who can barely make the NCAA tourney, but seems to have zero regrets. Taylor Mikesell hated it there so much she had to transfer a SECOND time. Sedona Prince left to play for the former Oregon assistant coach took over at TCU which makes sense because according to Reddit / other boards, that former coach was seemingly the best thing about playing there.

FWIW I’d be absolutely shocked if she is still interested in Iowa. I think Bluder was referring to Guyton in that podcast where she mentioned a remaining PG for 2024. Would love to nab either obviously.

Also wonder if her stock is dropping. Haven't heard much about her this summer. Falling from # 10 in HoopGurlz to # 25 is a pretty big drop, especially in a sport where there is a substantial drop in talent once you get beyond the first tier, which is usually between roughly # 25 - # 35, depending on the year.

Is Guyton done with official visits, or is there one left to MSU? She previously said she planned to commit in September.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for pulling this topic out of the 2025 thread lol.

Also, Raina is in North Carolina today and Jan is somewhere out west.

If Jan is out west, does that mean Clark won’t win the Sullivan Award in NYC tonight?

Raina was in Cincinnati today.

My guess is to see Dee Alexander. Hope that means we’re still pursuing her, I was wondering if that went anywhere.

I believe they've offered 3 players from her AAU team. Aniya Trent & Bryn Martin in addition to Alexander. Who they're actively still recruiting, I'm not sure. Raina started following ZaKiyah Johnson from that team as well a few months ago.

Britt Prince visiting ISU this weekend (according to poster at Cyclone Fanatic).
This is a great example of how tough it is to put your finger on where kids are likely to end up. Her dream schools have been listed as Oregon and UCLA, both of which she has offers from. Could not be more different from Iowa State on every level (program culture, talent around her, location, academic prestige (and offerings) of the school, conference, distance from home) but you’ve gotta assume ISU is on that short list if she’s visiting this late in the game.

Tho tbh any kid with elite talent who is seriously considering either ISU or UNL at this point baffles me. Their coaches seem inept. They’re both offense-first programs but there’s a good chance their offense is stagnant on any given night. Just some data points:
  • Ashley Joens went 4-1 versus Iowa, and made one Sweet 16. To their credit, they won the Big 12 Tourney last year (but that was its worst year in memory and they then immediately got bounced in the first round of the NCAAT).
  • Jaz Shelley has never beaten Iowa, and the UNL program epically melted down during what should have been their best season in a long awhile. UNL beat Indiana, Michigan and Maryland over the last couple seasons but didn’t even make the NCAA tourney in 2023.
Both got demolished by Creighton in 2022/2023 as well. They’ve both inexplicably become little sister programs regionally despite immense fan / institutional support and LOTS of talent/chemistry as well as a seemingly great culture.

Head scratchers all around…can anyone fill the class in on NIL for wbb at these schools?
