**NEW** Iowa Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread

what's up with Iowa needing more black players and now more black coaches.

Mulkey of LSU is white, take your bull shit elsewhere. black gotta get more blacks in here, the world is now being over taken where blacks are the only ones that count.

just like there was a song about short people having no reason to live. now there is a need for White people have no reason to live as the black people are now the superior race.
I see the local KKK rep is on the Board. This is what those EFFERS Trump, DeSantis, and MTG are doing to us. It is now acceptable for all the looneys to crawl out of the woodwork and openly declare their racism. Jesus, you bums lost the friggin Civil War over a century ago. If you try and fight it again, you are gonna get your ass kicked again. Get over it, Morans!

99% of you don't know a damn thing about racism, in fact a real racist could ne standing right to you and you would know it.

do yourself a favor and watch Walker Texas Ranger then you might know what a true racist is.

It's not a surprise. The only chance we had to land Sienna is whether Lauren committed. At this point, even the most critical of the perception that Iowa is too white, too conservative as a state, too rural, older white coach, etc. have to acknowledge this. I've seen numerous posts from black people in the recruiting threads that consider Iowa a racist state; others say anti-LGBT, anti-education, etc. These young women are sensitive to those issues, and it's definitely showing up in our lack of success in the portal, and in recruiting. As much as I love Coach Bluder, I think we also have to consider that her recruiting has has consistently been 2nd-level. As far as I know, Caitlin has been her only top ten recruit, and that's largely because CC wanted to stay close to home.
Iowa City is blue politically, though. Quite blue. It’s, also, considered a very LGBT friendly community. I’m not sure of the percentage of white people but, yeah, that’s high.

I think this may be an example of other Iowa coaches saying the key and maybe the biggest obstacle is to actually get people on campus. Iowa City is very different than a lot of the state as a whole.

She’s pulled some very highly recruited players. Pretty sure Linday Richards and Johanna Solverson were McDonalds all Americans. Logic was a major get also.

Levin showing some versatility behind the arc. Can any of our shooters not named Clark move like this?

I'm not sure what to make of Levin & what her floor/ceiling is. Will be interesting to see how she develops.

I think Levin is a better three-level scorer than anyone on the current roster not named Clark. To be fair, though, the current roster really didn't need that. Marshall, Martin, and Warnock being good three-point threats gave Clark and Czinano the space they needed to excel.

Perhaps that three-level scoring will be more important for the team once Clark has graduated.

ESPN has expanded its Top 60 list for 2024 to 100. 3 of our 4 commits made the cut.
  • C Ava Heiden - #32
  • G Taegan Mallegni - #62
  • G Taylor Stremlow - #72
G Callie Levin of Solon does not make the cut.

Our likely last target for the class, PG Britt Prince of Lincoln, NE is #25.

Notable commits at rival schools include:
  • PG Olivia Olsen (Mich) - #8
  • W Kendall Dudley (UCLA) - #12
  • G Avery Cain (UCLA) - #19
  • PG Kyndal Walker (MD) - #30
  • G W Berry Wallace (Ill) - #33
  • Rian Foriestier (USC) - #44
  • PG Xamiya Watson (NW) - #53
  • PG Jordyn Poole (Purdue) - #54
  • Ava McKennie (MD) - #97
No Top 100 kids have committed to ISU, Ohio State, or Indiana yet for 2024.

Bottom line: The B1G will continue to become more and competitive, especially once UCLA arrives. There's no reason we shoudn't have the most dominant center in the B1G once Heiden gets into a groove, with two solid shooters alongside her. If we can land Britt Prince (likely still a tall task), this could be Bluder's best recruiting class ever.

The Top 60 for 2025 has also been announced and our targets are well-represented:
  • W Jasmine Davidson, OR - #2
  • W Addison Deal, CA - #12
  • W Jordan Speiser, MO - #17
  • G Journee Houston, Davenport - #19
  • G Divine Bourrage, Davenport - #34
There are likely more but I don't remember all off the top of my head. If we could secure even one of these, we would be in a very formidable position heading into the post-Clark era.

I think Iowa may be the favorite for Houston and Bourrage, who are from Davenport, and have a long r/ship with Iowa staff. They are best friends, and may be a package deal? Speiser is another possibility, has visited a couple of times, and plays with the Attack, where Bluder has done well.

Notre Dame is not all that close to home.

I kind of got the feeling that Ava REALLY wanted to be a Hawk, but we just didn't have a spot for her. We slow-played her in case our options don't work out, but she obviously didn't want to wait.

I wish her luck with the Bluejays (just not too much luck).

Hawks just scheduled to play VA Tech at the Spectrum in Charlotte on Nov 9, at the Spectrum Center. Later in Nov at the Gulf Coast tourney. High profile games, tremendous publicity for the program. And they get the nice trip to Italy/Croatia in August.

That trip to Italy/Croatia should have been a big selling point to the portal players. oh well.....

Excited for the non-conf schedule this coming year. I would think they will be a part of many national broadcasts!

I agree with you regarding both players, but over the years and years, I've seen teammates and/or best friends say they'd love to play together, and when the time comes, they go different routes.

Someone on this board said they know the family (tho they didn’t say how closely/how long/etc) and it was their rather confident opinion that Bourrage wanted to continue her education outside Iowa. I can’t blame her, I felt the same. But I still ended up back in Iowa lol. Here is hoping she might be called back to her home state (and Sahara Williams too lmao).

When will the women’s team return to Iowa City to begin practices for trip to Italy? TIA
I think Clark was talking about being back in Iowa city next week, and Uconn posted something about thier transfers having made it to campus. I would not be surprised if they did the first session either next week or the week after.

When you say "the blacks" are you referring to Bill and Betty Black from Des Moines?

Yeah, Williams going to OK was pretty disappointing. Maybe something will go wrong wrong there, lol. But Houston has made at least one trip to an Iowa football game without Bourrage. She says she's known Bluder since she was 7 years old. And of the two, she does seem like the better prospect.

Maybe you're not racist. But when you say things like this, it smacks of the anger and racial animosity expressed by the "white replacement theory" bigots who are desperately clinging to the notion that white people should be the "superior race". Which is pretty much textbook racism. Anyway, the reason it was being talked about in this thread is that the Hawks seem to be missing out on some high profile black players in the portal and in recruiting, and were hoping to change the perception that Iowa was an inhospitable destination for players of color, etc.

Most people don't think this at all. We would just like to get equal consideration and treatment from government and business. Racism in the past can not be corrected by discrimination against whites now.
As for athletics, I believe blacks have more fast twitch muscles which is why there are so many more blacks in BB and FB. This isn't discrimination, just picking the best athletes.

Boy I wish you could spend a week as a black person. You are so clueless.

Anyone have a sense of whether Coach B is planning to fill that final 2024 roster spot? Is she waiting to see what Caitlin and/or Kylie will do? I see Amiah Hargrove (6'2" F) still hanging out there, just voted Illinois HS player of the year. And there are still many uncommitted top 50 players that Iowa has not offered. This is where that spot that Ava Jones is occupying becomes a real issue for the program to move forward. I honestly don't think that the Iowa staff has been aggressive enough in recruiting. This is a team that just played in the championship game, ranked #2 in the nation, and have a huge national profile, yet we're still pursuing lower-ranked local (midwest) recruits. By the way, where is Kyle Heusmann posting from these days?
Huesmann is at On3 now.

looking at the mens roster these are the current players of color
PG Bowen
SG Perkins
PF Dembele
left Ogundele who most on this board run off,

3 out of 12 = 25% with Josh it would have been 4 out of 13 = 30.1 %

they lose these off of this fall team
Perkins a player of color
Patrick a white player.

Fran recruits players of color and white players and try's to get those that want to play for IA

he cannot make these play for IA. all he can do is try. these are the players he has offered in the 24 class.
TOP 100 4* Koch committed maybe Fran should pull the scholarship back because he is White because poster want nothing but players of color.

players of color with IA Offers
C John Bol top 50 4*
C Patrick Ngomba top 100 4*
PF Bamgboye 4*
PF Pharaoh Compton top 60 4*
PG Tayshawn Bridges top 100 4*
SG 6'7 Caden Diggs unranked
SG Nate Guerengomba unranked
SF Tyler Betsy 5*
SF Nassir Cunningham 5*
SF Jalen Shelley top 50
SF Darrion Sutton 3*
SF Beryson Tucker 5*
as you can see Fran has recruited top ranked people of color. so this should quiet the nayaserson Fran not recruiting players of color. now its just a matter of who commits or not.

I just started a thread for the 2025 recruiting class (link below). My hope is to start doing class-specific threads rather than a single big thread like this one. I've enjoyed big threads like this, but in general it's hard to find old information when we've discussed players spread across 3 or even 4 different classes.

https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/iowa-wbb-2025-recruiting-thread.420345/
