It might be time to put Baer back into the Hawkeye
starting lineup. He needs to get the team off to
a good start in the first half. His energy, rebounding
and defense are sorely missing when the team
fails to get off on the right foot. His enthusiasm rubs
off on the other players and makes a big difference.

Love Baer but his defense on-the-ball at the 3 is not good because of the type of player he has to match up against. He's better lurking around from behind on someone else's man, getting in the passing lanes or flying in for a rebound unchecked.

We tried him as a starter and it was not as good as the role he's in now. I vote no. I'd consider throwing Wagner or maybe Kreiner at the 5 and split minutes for Cook & Pemsl at the 4.

This year I'd like to bring Baer off the bench as super-smart-energy. However, I'm wondering with Jok's nagging injuries lately, if there might be a game(s) when he sits. In that case, I think we need Baer starting for stability. Next year, we may need him starting for the same reason with probably only one senior.

Still like him off the bench. Not about who starts, it's about who finishes. Baer will usually be there at the end.

This is such a tough decision for Coach Mc. I love seeing him come off the bench....I almost get goose bumps because you know he's gonna help or change the game. Maybe at the 18 minute mark instead of later on. He is such a hard worker and does so many little things it is hard to keep him from starting as well.

Tough choice. He is our best / only shot blocker and rebounder, so I would rather try to extend his minutes by using someone else as the rover when we press. Put Williams or Uhl out there to do that and save Baer's legs for more productive endeavors.

If you start him, you put a second unit out there that has almost no chance to score. Maybe splitting Cook and Pemsl up or the addition of Kriner would mitigate that a bit.

Team defense is the biggest problem with this Iowa
Hawkeye squad. Cook and Jok do not inspire any
confidence that defense is important to winning games.
If Wagner can play good defense without fouling, then
he might be another potential starter.

Bottom Line: The Hawkeyes need to win their next
game against Illinois.

Starting doesn't always translate into minutes played. Fran can use a starting lineup to motivate the guys in the 6, 7, 8 spots, too.
