Illinois is final four quality. I don't if they win the whole thing or not but their guards are great and they have Cockburn in the middle. Will be a tough out.

Illinois is really good. I’d be shocked if they didn’t make the Sweet 16. After that, it depends on who the 3 is in their region or if the region is riddled with upsets. In other words, matchups matter.

Only 3 seed I could see having a chance is Oklahoma State, but I doubt they'll end up in Illinois' region.
Actually there guards on defense ride the person they are defending with their hand and forearm. If you get an officiating crew that calls freedom of movement fouls, they are in big trouble. Oh and did you see the foul on CMac against the masked avenger? He grabbed CMac's arm and Connor got the foul. Their style of play is to commit multiple fouls on every possession and dare the Ref's to call them. They just might run into a crew that will.

Illinois will absolutely hammer teams if crews call games like they did today. They are still super athletic and can play the finesse game as well.

The difference is that Illinois has Cockburn, who is not as complete as Garza, but still an elite player. We do not have the guards with the same athleticism as what Illinois has.
We can certainly beat them but I have no problem admitting that they, and Michigan, were both better than us.

I only watched the second half -- didn't particularly notice the refs screwing us over. what was apparent was the illini were a smidge better. The hawks did well biding their time but on every occasion that we created a tiny crack to get back in it, they shut us with great defense -- not one open or easy shot that i recall through an entire freaking half. That cockburn dude might not be worth his weight in gold (that would be our entire gdp) but still damn. That guy was the difference because he completely neutralized garza's great stats.
also, when they pulled out cockburn after his 4th foul, that gave the perfect opportunity to close the gap but on that very first farking possession garza picks up his 4th with a really non-smart midcourt foul. zero advantage taken by us.

Illinois and Gonzaga are the two best teams Iowa faced this year....
I like Iowa a lot, but like they say it depends on the draw. Illinois would want to avoid someone like Florida State and I think Iowa would too. Wieskamp needs to stay healthy and get 100%.
Illinois is a legit threat to win it all IMO. Maybe 2-3 teams that can deal with the talent they have. Even if Kofi gets in foul trouble they have Ayo and Curbelo to carve defenses up and kick to their shooters. Ayo is capable of taking a game over and is a clutch closer. As dynamic as they are on offense, their defense might be better. They flat out guard people. I would put money on IL vs. Gonzaga.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Illini in Final Four. Plenty of depth, speedy guards and Cockburn is brutal.
Illinois is the best team in the B1G, hands down. They deserve the regular season title over Michigan.
I'm with you. If this were the NCAA tourney with neutral refs, Cockburn would have fouled out in the first 5 mins of the game.

That is an excellent basketball team that’s playing at the top of their game right now. The way they’re playing right now, I don’t think Gonzaga can beat them.....but we’ll see if they can stay this hot. Illinois can use the big like Iowa did to hammer Gonzaga down low and also have the guards to battle Suggs & crew. Curbelo has given them another gear.
That said, they may have a game or two in the tourney where they rack up early foul trouble with all the grabbing and shoving.
