(No Iowa guarantees, I have no clue) Illannoy is out

Illinois is playing as well as any team in the country. Let’s hope they shit the bed though. #fingerscrossed

Why? You always want your conference to perform well on the National stage. It's good for everyone in the B1G. Illinois is a tough club that can go deep. The B1G has several teams that can go deep.

Some of you guys are really whiney bitches.

To help Illinois ‘ recruiting ?

Illinois is good. But I’m not going to root for them ever. They are Iowa st ((Wisconsin/Nebraska) in my book

If you're inferring that a recruit would choose Illinois over Iowa because they went deeper in one tourney run...I'd suggest those examples are few and far between...if they exist at all.

I'd rather the talent stays in the B1G than goes to a team/conference that knocked a B1G team out. A rising tide raises all ships.

Beat Illinois head-to-head...every freaking time. But on the big stage you want your conference to perform well as it casts favorable shade on all the members.

I'm with you. If this were the NCAA tourney with neutral refs, Cockburn would have fouled out in the first 5 mins of the game.
and Garza would have been right behind him.....the refs were quite consistent today and let the guys go at it inside......Luka missed a ton of snowbirds today....Illinois' big advantage is their quickness, speed and physicalness in the front court and wings,,,,(That guard off the bench for Illinios stole the ball from Iowa whenever he wanted to, it seemed.) Iowa does not have that...and Nunge would have played a lot today...

The key to BB success at U Illinois is to be able to keep the Chicago and down state talent in state.....Henson showed everyone it could be done and how to do it....

We can beat Illinois 3 out of 10 times
they are just deeper with better players
I agree with 3 out of 10, I only think they are deeper with bigs but the key is their guards are significantly more athletic and better defenders than ours. The lack of nepotism for illinois is a huge advantage too, vs elite competition we just aren't good enough to make up for 1 guy who has no business playing 27 minutes

It all depends on the matchup for me. If Illinois is playing Duke or someone like that, then I’ll root for the Illini. If they’re playing Hartford, then I’m all in with the Hawks.

OP...there is a side of me that agrees with you. Illinois does the garbage hand checking and holding. However, they are still a good team that will at least make the sweet 16...IMHO.

GO HAWKS!
Maybe that “garbage hand checking and holding” is actually the way defense is supposed to be played today? Just saying..good teams seem to play defense aggressively like this. Defense ain’t pretty....and a good defense is seldom a zone, either...

We've seen this time and time again with B1G teams. Truth of the matter is, the last national champion out of the B1G was 2000 MSU. Not by accident either; the physical style has no place in college basketball.

Can some of you stop calling athletic teams that play good defense thugs? Grow the F up. Refereeing isn’t just going to change in the tournament. The Illini have 4 tremendous guards, a NBA Center that hardly anyone can match up with plus plenty of depth. It was a good hard fought game yesterday that will only help us moving forward.

I understand your argument. The refs are clearly allowing this defense. Hopefully Iowa can clamp down in the tourny.

Thugs is an expression of an Iowa Value, Little.... ;)
