The current plan is 5 matches and redshirt. What's the deal? Is Hill beating him? Is he injured? Are the Brands clinging to their "always redshirt the first year" policy?
We don't have to like it, but that is the most logical course of action with this year's team. Now if one of them could go at 184, then it might be a different story. <edit: I know Arnold can go 184, but he should get a chance to go at 174 which is his natural weight and PK is doing just fine there now>Looks like Gabe and Ben will be red shirting?
Kueter may be too far behind hill right now - he’s not in wrestling shape yetTotally get it with Gabe.
With Ben, we might be playing chicken with his NFL career (if his football performance is good). A light true freshman HWT will certainly have a tough path...but I don't know if we have the luxury of 5 years in the wrestling room with BK
Kueter will suffer the same challenges next year (and so on). He will still be undersized and relatively inexperienced due to football. If he’s not [good enough] to wrestle this year then I don’t see it being any different in the future. It’s unfortunate but I don’t think he’s the answer.Totally get it with Gabe.

I think you don’t know Ben very well. Did Drake show enough killer instinct for you last night?Kueter will suffer the same challenges next year (and so on). I get it, he’s super talented and works hard. But his effectiveness will be limited by getting less than 3 months of the year to focus on wrestling.I think you don’t know Ben very well. Did Drake show enough killer instinct for you last night?

Nobody knows for certain, but my earlier points are still valid…he will face the same challenges each year with limited time on the mat and small size (unless he changes position in football). You know this after one match and two weeks in the room? Give the guy a chance.
I think the best course of action is moving Ben to the DL. At least weight wise he transitions betterKueter will suffer the same challenges next year (and so on). Meanwhile, I’ve been impressed with Hill’s progress. He may not be AA caliber yet but he’s looking much better than I expected.
I’ve been thinking the same thing lately.Kueter will suffer the same challenges next year (and so on). He will still be undersized and relatively inexperienced due to football. All fair criticisms, but it will be difficult to maintain football weight on the wrestling mat. I often have unrealistic hopes, but the realism is setting in with balancing two sports and the other sport taking precedence. All things that have and will continue to be discussed here in the cesspool. Any wrestling success he has will truly be a testament to his incredible abilities.College linebackers generally hangout at 240-250 which is plenty of size for a good, athletic hwy. And no, the points don't stand either way...not enough data.
I completely agree with you regarding the difficulties that BK faces trying to play LB and wrestle. However, it's not going to be a very popular opinion on this board.Nobody knows for certain, but my earlier points are still valid…he will face the same challenges each year with limited time on the mat and small size (unless he changes position in football).

I did say “if” so that should keep me out of troubleThe two sport thing I get and it's always been a worry. My main worry is that he has great success in football so why tempt the $$ Gods by wrestling. But that wasn't the original argument that stuck in my craw, this was:
He's out of wrestling shape and working himself back in just like anybody who is coming off injury etc. His success in getting bigger in football will only help wrestling because both his position in football and weight in wrestling is where he needs to be. We don't need Ben for the Iowa State dual. We need him to be on all cylinders by Oklahoma State each year. He gassed in his first match in Carver but still won. This puts him in the same company as Sorensen and Kemerer. All I'm saying is give him some time before sunsetting his wrestling career.
No use and burning Ben’s red shirt he would not even be ranked in the top 20 right now would have a zero chance of placing and doesn’t have enough time to qualify the spotWhat's the deal? Is Hill beating him? Is he injured? Are the Brands clinging to their "always redshirt the first year" policy?
I agree, he's got the frame to handle 250-260.I think the best course of action is moving Ben to the DL. At least weight wise he transitions better
I’ll tell you what I think. I think that this was the plan to begin with. This is just my opinion. I will agree that you ride with what you have. If it’s not broke then don’t fix it.I really wonder if the sucess PK at 174 and Hill at hwt. are having will be the final nail in the RS decisions. Both Gabe and Ben would benefit from a RS and Hill and PK are earning their spot. At this point, I think you ride with what you have. I would like to see them get a couple more matches though even if they stay in RS.
SIDLINGERYou know this after one match and two weeks in the room? Give the guy a chance.
No reason the football team can’t put 20 lbs of muscle on him before next season. You won’t lose the muscle weight during the wrestling season, mostly just excess fluid and fat.He ain't big enough this year. Enough said.
Exactly, he needs more muscle anyway. He's not even close to being big enough to compete with the AA type guys.No reason the football team can’t put 20 lbs of muscle on him before next season. You won’t lose the muscle weight during the wrestling season, mostly just excess fluid and fat.
It's a tough discussion both ways, but I get where you're coming from. And not being as knowledgeable as most of you I don't know how long it takes to go from football fit to wrestling fit. He was definitely gassed against a top 30 guy his first time out, but then so was Kennedy who is now kicking ass. Again, I see your point but I see it the other way as well. Good conversation!Nobody knows for certain, but my earlier points are still valid…he will face the same challenges each year with limited time on the mat and small size (unless he changes position in football).

Great idea unless he doesn't want to be a DL. LOL! It's back to the Gabe discussion; to wit, what does the athlete want?I agree, he's got the frame to handle 250-260.
He's skinny at 220.
This. I want to see what Gabe has against Star and maybe what BK has against Mich's heavy, Davison. Back to 74, I want to see PK against Griffith; I want to see if he can wear Griffith down like he did Ruth.I really wonder if the sucess PK at 174 and Hill at hwt. are having will be the final nail in the RS decisions. I thought BK could maybe get 7th or 8th, but after watching Davison fall to Feldman I just don't know. A lot of big beefy men at HWT.Exactly, he needs more muscle anyway. He's not even close to being big enough to compete with the AA type guys.
