As bad as my post saying we will win out I wish I could punch myself out and choke myself out… what a maroon I am and I am eating deep fried crow for the rest of the season… this team is so much like the 2016 team… high expectations and no bite … the defense is actually horrible and the offense is only so so because of KJ2

Time for some strong sleeping pills and vodka tonight this was an absolute nightmare of a game - I want to kick myself in the nuts right now for being delusional as FOOK!

MSU will probably never win more than 1-2 more games

Hang it up KF!

I have been a Hawkeye fan for many years (60 plus) and I am a glass is half full type of guy, but I must say, I am seriously concerned about where the team sits right now. (Can we deal effectively with NIL, can we continue to holdback on portal usage, are our offensive concepts outdated, do we stay with players too long even though they are underperforming ? ) As fans, the most effective thing to be done is contribute to SWARM- otherwise, quit complaining… complaining alone means you are part of the problem!!!!

I highly doubt that the swarm will ever compete with the $$ generated by the big dogs. Its just not going to happen at Iowa, or about 50 other top 60 some schools. Alot of these collectives will probably go away when this 20% revenue sharing thing starts in a year or two anyway, but we're never going to fund like OSU. Michigan, USC, Oregon, etc... It's not going to happen. Our only hope is to identify their castoffs for our portal additions.

The SWARM has major issues when your high dollar transfers flop like Cade...

You have the Lineman that will go nameless clown you TWICE.

Sorry, not giving a dime to Swarm for KF to waste anyway.

Program is dead in the water until Kirk decides to leave. We'll see how bad of a disaster it is by then.

I am not spending my life savings on so-called college football ever. I have other priorities such as my children and grandchildren. And if I did it sure as hell would not be with Ferentz as the head coach. The guy made career out of feasting on shi*** teams.

Don’t forget the $ we wasted on Kaleb brown.

The stubbornness and FU attitude about giving the backups a chance shows he no longer cares what anyone thinks.
He needs to go. Tired of his smug bs.

It is truly baffling. Why why why does KF refuse to play a backup QB when the starter is clearly not playing well?

At some point you are forced to conclude that some overriding principle prohibits KF from making an otherwise necessary coaching decision. Athletic contests are played to determine who will prevail, which team will win.

The rationale “he gives us the best chance to win” is disingenuous, objectively ridiculous, borderline delusional.

It makes me believe that for KF, actually winning the contest at hand is secondary to some other purpose. I have no other rational option to conclude otherwise.

Relax. You're trying to be an optimist. Now you're back to reality where pragmatism lives. That's where we all should try to live. Don't beat yourself up. In your heart you knew KF's smoke and mirrors weren't going to work forever.

Indiana and Illinois are the new football powers in the BIG. Think about that for a minute.

Why? Because he is flawed in 2 significant ways....he won't admit he is or was wrong, and he's terribly stubborn. No other coach anywhere in college football continues past the 1st quarter last night with McNamara as their QB.

Worst part is KF will pull any other position. Be it at OL or as we saw at CB. But his refusal at qb is maddening. People can point to all the things KF has been good at and done right. But one thing is evident his evaluation and development at the qb position has been bad. I’ll also point out Jon budmyr deserves some blame. He brought both McNamara and hill. Time when ton of qbs in the portal and we took Cade right off the bat. One thing is for sure everything budmyr touches turns to sh!t.

Just think, if it were not for Beth his son would STILL be our OC….which is sad.

It’s too bad Beth can’t name our starting QB…😉

Could be that he has some obscure incentives about draft picks or FA deals that other P5 coaches might not have. The program at times seems to be more of a job training center for the NFL than a college football team.
I don’t think so. I believe it’s more basic.

Let’s face it, on the spectrum of coaching philosophies, Ferentz is well situated on the conservative side and, considering the advancement of modern offensive strategies the past quarter century, ultra-conservative.

He is ultra-conservative. He has a formula, a process, and it must be followed

a) the coaches develop a game plan for an opponent that they believe will succeed.
b) the coaches instruct the team on the game plan
c) the players prepare by practicing all week on executing the game plan.
d) on game day, the players execute the game plan

I believe KF is a “stick to the game plan at all cost” coach who thinks deviating from the game plan is dangerous. That is why you get the persistent “need to execute better” excuses following a loss.

I think this is a reasonable analysis. Consistent with what we see and the minimal information publicly available.
It's not that he doesn't want to win games. But winning games the way HE wants to win games takes priority.

Sorry, but that dog doesn't hunt either. There is NO chance in HELL that Cade plays in the NFL. We've had a run from Stanzi to Ruddock, to Beathard to Stanley where they got drafted and at least stuck around in the league 4-5 years. A couple even started games. Cade won't be in the league.....

The bigger problem is those who continue to buy season tickets and accept mediocrity. Giving your hard-earned money to scholarship athletes via Swarm is ridiculous in my opinion.

Never said he would. The program is built on sending players (particularly OL, TE, and defensive guys) to the NFL to such a degree that I think it could be more incentivized than at other schools.

Beyond that, I would say that the Iowa football program primarily intends to “build character” because Ferentz realizes there are 75 or more other student-athletes under his wing who will not play pro football. That overriding principle is often mentioned or alluded to by Ferentz in his pressers and I think it’s genuine.

I mean, every coach believes that he is “building character” but Ferentz is uncompromising… how else do you explain KF leaving players in the game when they are clearly failing? Adversity, sometimes humiliation, is a great character builder.

I mostly agree, but man, I really hope neither KF nor any coach at this level keeps guys in to humiliate them.

Agree, contributing to the SWARM is fruitless until KF is gone. That message needs to rise high in the athletic offices watch contributions soar once he’s out.

Sir, the topic was Kirks refusal to pull Cade as the QB. You said he must have some incentive for keeping players in the game and not pulling them, (again the subject was specifically about Cade), and thats the reason. I'm pointing out in THIS case, (the only one we're discussing) he's never going to play in the league, or get drafted for that matter, so that is not the reason.

I get it. I sorta feel the same way. I also have kids and grandkids as priorities. I have thought about giving but KF's refusal to try anyone else at QB has soured me on giving. I have been a huge fan of KF but his bull headedness turns me off. I skipped bowl game last year because of Deacon Hill fiasco. Some of our best times together as a family have been Iowa Bowl games. Already have tickets, room and flight to UCLA game. Never thought Iowa would be 4-3 after seven games. Bummer.

Overall the offense played poorly but the defense was worse, and it's been a long time since the D hasn't shown up,.. Castro being out was certainly an issue...
