Non-Conference

Thanks....already to evaluate and see what kind of record we come out of there with.

The Hawks will be severely punished if they don't go undefeated with this ridiculously easy schedule. Might be Frans worst OOC schedule since he's been at Iowa...

Since I have never been critical of Iowa sports I will just not comment on our pre season schedule

Virginia Tech

Iowa State

Colorado

Cincinnati (most likely for the championship of the tournament)

These are not gimme games to go undefeated. The rest of the non conference schedule "might" be close to the gimme status but the B10 should make up for that. I can see feeding the confidence and cohesion of this still young team to start the year and hopefully next year the non conference schedule is more challenging.

Agree, not gimmie' s but I think most Iowa fans here will feel disappointed losing any of those games, with what we have returning, all seem winnable, or do you see one where we appear to be overmatched ?

It may be the worst home nonconference schedule ever. Not sure any of those teams finished in Kenpom's top 200 last year and most were south of 300.

Definitely puts a premium on getting W's in the tougher non con games

To be fair, Grambling and Alabama St are included in the cayman's thing so we didn't have a choice.

However, 5 out of the 6 home games are against 300+ teams. Only NIU is respectable. Better hope that doesn't come back to bite us for seeding or worse, bubble talk.

Turrible scheduling.

I agree that if we lose more than 2 games in the non-con it will be a disappointment. If all of our moving parts fit well together, we are going to be tough to beat.

Part of the issue is that Iowa did not get a home game in the ACC/B1G challenge as they were due to get. Iowa will likely not be favored against Virginia Tech and Iowa State. Schedule is not great, but good opportunities for Iowa to get neutral and road wins.

Nope.... I don't see us being over matched by any of those. That said, I don't think we're over matched by anyone in the B10 either but that doesn't mean we won't lose some games.

Not sure why we have to schedule so many bottom feeders, instead of teams more likely to be in the 150-250 Kenpom range. Five teams were above 300 last year. Toughest four games will either be on the road or on a neutral court, so finishing with two or fewer losses is definitely not a gimme. Split those four games (ISU, Va Tech, Colorado and Cincy?), and we will be OK. Do worse, and we will start the B1G behind. Without injuries, I think we will start the year MUCH stronger than last year.

NIU finished below .500 and underachieved last year in The MAC. They also graduated Maric (their stud 6'11 center) and their two best guards (Armstead and Highsmith). I don't think they will be much of a test.

I believe the tournament we entered just happened to be a dud and that's why our non-conference is struggling. We only really scheduled 3 super cupcakes and Drake is still rebuilding.

Two questions- why do we not get a home game in the Big Ten/ACC this year? I'm assuming it's our year to sit out playing a Big East school?

I wouldn't call it a dud but I think we absolutely have to play Cincy to make it not be a wasted opportunity.

Idk why we got another away ACC game and yes it is our year to sit out the Big East games which is why CO is on the schedule.

10-3 or better. I wish we could replace one or two of those 300 opponents with a good regional "rivalry" kind of game. Marquette, Creighton, St. Louis are all good candidates.

Iowa's not a media team. That schedule should get us into the NCAAs with 11 B1G wins.

Cannot wait to see the Hawks play anyone. I doubt we have difficulties scoring against anybody. The question that is going to take some time to get a handle on is how easily teams score against us, or how difficult. I'm hoping we have come a long way from how we played defense last year. Hawks need to start playing defense better than they finished and continue to get better every game

One significant advantage of this schedule is that every player should get plenty of minutes early in the season. That then helps chemistry and should make for guys being fresh at the end of the season.

As someone already alluded to, it should give the team an opportunity to really get any defensive miscommunication and positioning issues straightened out without costing us wins.

There is way too much trash on that non-con schedule.

Really puts a premium on performing well in the 4 games that aren't against terrible opponents. And the B1G slate.

To be fair we still have a young roster returning and will be missing the BigTen leading scorer from last season so while I agree they are talented this team will still experience some growing pains.

This is an NIT schedule...get enough automatic wins on the schedule to guarantee a .500 record.

I will agree with that to a degree, BUT if we stomp the ever lovin shiznit out of these dogs while displaying great depth and improved defense.....all while building great confidence that allows us to do well against the strong teams....I think we will be okay.

Yes, they can get away with this atrocious schedule if they beat all the dogs. Also, they really need to go at least 2-2 in the four games that are of some quality.

I'm looking for better, need to watch hawks on defense, that is going to determine our season. Play with a take no prisoner's attitude, get the opponents down and step on their throat. Ok way to amped up for this early, lol

That needs to be11-2 at worst. Get everyone experience then knock every team they should in conference play and alot of the good teams in conference play. It's time for Fran to have his players overacheive and win all the games they are supposed to and then knock off powerhosues at at least a 50% rate. And it's definitely time to make it to the finals of the Big ten tournament. Wins will get them into the NCAA

Schedule strength is going to be so bad, need 11-2 in non-conference and a 10-8 in the B1G just to get on the bubble! Maybe.

One thing to remember, you see that stretch in there without a game after the Big Ten/ACC? There will be two Big Ten games in there, one home and one on the road. Potentially you have three neutral site games, likely one against Cincy, then come home and travel to VT, two tough Big Ten games, and then travel to ISU. That's a really challenging stretch. Three tough road games, three neutral games, and one home game.

I kind of look at it this way, a few games to ease into the season, tough stretch, throttle back a bit and then a little more challenging again toward the end before Big Ten starts.

I don't think 2 losses would be bad at all. ISU on the road and it is hard to win there. VT probably another tournament team. Cinci is usually good. And before that South Dakota State should be decent because they have a stud, Mike Daum.
