Northern Illinois board is awesome

Not really different than any other board. There was a lot of anger this morning over there because hopes were high, they saw the game as winnable.

When home board team loses, coaches are idiots and players are terrible. When they win, they either win despite those very same coaches and players or they're never losing again the rest of the season.

There's very little objective reflection I'll call it.

NIU is actually a pretty good MAC team but to compete against the big boys they need more weapons on offense (unless said big boys help them out, like last year's Nebraska game). I also believe Carey is a perfectly fine coach for them.

Lol good. They brought this upon themselves for this exact reason, living high and mighty for the last few years bragging about how they've beaten middle of the road Big Ten teams.

Time for the Huskies to sit.

Bingo. Their prediction thread was about 80% NIU winning. They're having a tough time swallowing that reality pill.

They may be human just like us, but God help me if we ever get down 33-0 to a team that isn’t as good as Utah, despite what the Sagarin ratings say, and we sit here talking about running the football more... I guess that’s being ultra human.

I freely admit to being a horrible fan during the first half. I should have been more patient and need to quit being a pessimist. That being said most fan bases have their share of "unreasonable" posters, we are no exception, that being said I don't know what kind of drugs they are taking if they expected a win let alone steam roll us.

Iowa may not win all their games, but at the very least we rarely get blown out of games, it happens, but arguably rare for the most part.

My comment to them would be, Iowa dropped 55pts on Ohio State at home and you seriously expected a win? I'm not saying they didn't have a chance, but to "expect" it, yeah....I don't think so.

I expected a win against Ohio State.....because I predicted it.

Looks pretty similar to this place after a loss, or sometimes even after a win.

Outcoached, better QB is sitting on the bench, ..............

Like a broken record

I was sitting by about 8 NIU fans at the game they actually said they thought the back up QB was better from the get go.. I don’t think
It would have mattered!

What I saw & I think what their board failed to mention is that Iowa physically gnawed on them for too long. They were gassed midway through the third & Iowa maintained the physicality. I was extremely impressed with our conditioning being the first game in terrible humidity. Rotating our lines a bit obviously helped, but guys weren't running off because they needed a breather, it was usually because of a slight injury here or there.

With that said, excited to see how this team progresses & if it can be a common theme of wearing opponents down by the 4th quarter.

This is why I don’t pay attention to the game threads (although I do for basketball). As I have gotten older, my only expectation is to try to enjoy the experience regardless of the outcome. I’m not playing or coaching, so ranting and raving and pissing and moaning seems pretty childish. It makes the experience a helluva lot more fun.

After we wear somebody down, I would like to see us do some hurry up offense to take more advantage of the opponent's fatigue.

I'm not at all in favor of the "hurry up and punt" style of offense...
if you read the Northern Illinois board... you'll see them making fun of that style of offense... and it makes it harder on the defense to be constantly out on the field without the extra rest.

especially if you have the lead.. if you are winning.... and you play the hurry up.... you are taking away that rest time for the defense... and you are giving your opponent more time to come back and win

it just does not make any sense to me to run that hurry up and punt style of offense when you got a lead.

we do see a lot of it from other programs... but smart teams stay away from it.

Yeah,I usually don't read the boards during the game. I still remember the 1st game that I "gave up" on the team/player, and that was the '09 Indiana game with 5 Stanzi picks. That game pretty much reminded me to not give up on the guys and that they are all doing their best put there.

I don't know about anyone else, but...I was completely fine with saving Young until the 2nd half where he just steamrolled over tired defenders. Granted the first half sucked, penalties killed us but Damn, Young was a great spark.

Add me to that list. Wish all our fans would not do it. There are about 2-3 opposing team posters that come to the Iowa board and give insightful information. The rest are just trollls.

I admit to going to other teams boards, but never posted on another board (at least not that I can recall). Don't see much point in it. But I do enjoy reading through the opponents game threads and seeing what's going through their minds at different points in the game, or reading what they think the best gameplan is to beat us... things like that.

I feel like that's a healthy thing for a fan to do. Just don't be a troll, and don't put on your black and gold sunglasses and stick your head in the sand like Iowa is the only team on the planet and refuse to listen to another viewpoint. Both of those are on equal ground in my opinion.
