While the passing game is a long way from where we’d like or thought it would be, it’s hard to see how people don’t see the strides the running game has made, and blocking in general.Made the mid-season Joe Moore award honor roll .......................
The U Conn Huskies offensive line is among a group of o-lines from #7 Alabama, Army, #10 Clemson, Iowa, #18 Kansas State, Louisiana, #13 LSU, #6 Miami, #24 Michigan, Navy, #2 Ohio State, #3 Oregon, #4 Penn State, Rutgers, #25 SMU, #8 Tennessee, #1 Texas, Texas Tech, UNLV, Western Michigan, and West Virginia to make the mid-point honor roll.

Against lower level teams, yes. While the passing game is a long way from where we’d like or thought it would be, it’s hard to see how people don’t see the strides the running game has made, and blocking in general.
Is ISU a lower level team?Against lower level teams, yes.
I'd agree with this. I think in some ways this group is just limited from an athletic perspective. I'm no expert by any stretch, but maybe that explains more than anything some of the struggles we still see in pass protection where balance, quickness, and footwork, particularly at the tackle position becomes so important vs the run game where strength and technique might be the most important aspects. If you're not blessed with that natural ability, no amount of coaching or development is going to overcome it.While the passing game is a long way from where we’d like or thought it would be, it’s hard to see how people don’t see the strides the running game has made, and blocking in general.
Pass blocking is something that can be so hard to gauge how good or not they are I think. A guy loses leverage for a split-second, gets fooled for just a moment on a stunt, or sometimes the presnap read is wrong and they got fooled by what the D was showing. Those aren’t necessarily signs of a bad line.I'd agree with this. I think in some ways this group is just limited from an athletic perspective. Agree to disagree if you think they’re only slightly better than last year. These guys have been here for a TON of years and are only slightly better. With as much experience as they have individually and as a unit, they should be much better than they are. JMHO.
Colby might be a good example of what I was thinking about. They tried him at tackle and it was a huge fail. He's fine inside but i think it was his lack of quickness that was exposed on a regular basis out there. He might have a career at guard like you said. I don't see Richman having an NFL career at tackle, but who knows. I certainly don't.Pass blocking is something that can be so hard to gauge how good or not they are I think. It also doesn’t help that while he’s better in the pocket by several orders of magnitude than Deacon or Petras, Cade still prefers to operate from the pocket and doesn’t like to move around much, due at least partly to Cade clearly imo lacking confidence in his knees. Lots harder to block when the D can pretty much rely on the QB being at a fixed point.
I neve know how to really gauge athleticism, especially for OL/DL positions. I do think both Richmond and Colby have decent chances of being drafted next spring for what it’s worth.
Johnson had near 90 yards against Ohio State and didn't play the last 8 or 9 minutes. He could have made 100.Against lower level teams, yes.
I know he was playing C during the last drive or two. I thought I'd seen him out there. Was it my imagination or was Cade Pieper in there at LT for some plays last Satudary?
Who knows, Richmond is another guy that might slide inside if he can stick in the NFL.Colby might be a good example of what I was thinking about. They tried him at tackle and it was a huge fail. Agree. It's at tackle where I don't see a real opportunity for Richmond. Agree on Colby as well, although wasn't he recruited as a tackle?Who knows, Richmond is another guy that might slide inside if he can stick in the NFL.
All other complaints about Kirk aside, I still generally trust him when it comes to OL evals. Part of the reason Colby started at tackle was due to guys leaving/injuries as I recall.
He could have hit 100 if he'd had more than 15 carries. That one's a mystery.Johnson had near 90 yards against Ohio State and didn't play the last 8 or 9 minutes. He could have made 100.
It’s what he played in HS I think, tho I always take stuff like that with a grain of salt. Never know how that translates in college sometimes.Agree. It's at tackle where I don't see a real opportunity for Richmond. Agree on Colby as well, although wasn't he recruited as a tackle?
Feel like in large part that’s due to how quickly the game got away from them. Got to 21-0 in what? First 6 min of 3rd quarter and then Iowa had to abandon the run to an extent. He could have hit 100 if he'd had more than 15 carries. That one's a mystery.
I'm not sure how you can say that when he had only received 8 carries in a 7-0 first half. That's the mystery to me. Unless you're suggesting that they'd already waved the white flag in the first half. Again, I don't get it.It’s what he played in HS I think, tho I always take stuff like that with a grain of salt. All of those teams listed, played lower level teams as well. They all get a mixed bag of opp.Against lower level teams, yes.
They have, but it seems for only half a game against most competition. Is ISU a lower level team?
No they weren’t at their best against Ohio State….thats one of the best units in all of college football, and they still held their own for the first 30 minutes even then.
I’m not saying this is a great unit, but is it that hard to say they’ve improved a great deal from last year?
Don't care about who the other teams played, this is about Iowa. All of those teams listed, played lower level teams as well. They all get a mixed bag of opp.
New to college football?
And no Nebraska and no Iowa State. All of those teams listed, played lower level teams as well. They all get a mixed bag of opp.

Iowa doesn't play in a vacuum. You brought up lower level teams. All teams play some weak teams and perform better against them.Don't care about who the other teams played, this is about Iowa.
Yes, other teams do play lower level. This is about Iowa, i don't care about other teams and who they play. Iowa struggled vs Ill St for a half and have yet to put a full game together, even against the lower level teams.Iowa doesn't play in a vacuum. You brought up lower level teams. Pretty much put that full game together. Still on pace for 10-2. Most can see the o line improvement this year. Maybe you just can't. GO HAWKS!Yes, other teams do play lower level. For as many starts as these guys have they still look like (a) Gomer Pyle’s porous yellow socks, and (b) five monkeys trying to f#%k a football.
George Barnett is a failure.
This game was put together, the first of the year, they improved.Pretty much put that full game together. Still on pace for 10-2. Most can see the o line improvement this year. Maybe you just can't. GO HAWKS!
Yep Elsbury came in and no drop off.Lots of great blocking out there Saturday. All across the line.
Did see Beau Stephens in a boot post game outside.
