It was a day that will live in infamy for Iowa football fans, a day similar to what is forecast for this Saturday in Iowa City. Overcast, light rain likely, temps in the 50s.

I was there as #1 Iowa (7-0) faced #8 Ohio State. Even though ranked in the top ten, the Buckeyes were a clear underdog and did not have one of their greatest teams. But OSU showed some wrinkles on defense that held Chuck Long to 50% passing and yielded FOUR interceptions that doomed the Hawkeyes.

It would be awesome if the Hawkeyes could use Saturday to take revenge on OSU for that loss, one that cost Iowa a shot at an undefeated season and a national championship.

A few wrinkles on offense and defense would surely help that effort. Here's hoping for some long overdue payback for the Buckeyes.

For the Hawks who decry Nebraska' five National Championships I have one word "History"

I was at that game. I had the owners tickets of the company I ran in Ohio. I had on my Iowa jacket and sat on the 50 yard line 35 rows up. I was 33 years old.
In front of me sat 3 former Heisman Trophy winners. In front of them sat 3 National Championship Teams players. Ohio State pulled out all the stops for this game.
The rain was coming in from the open Horseshoe to the south in sheets sideways. It was horrible conditions. Iowa turned the ball over 2 times in the first 3 minutes to go down 14 zip and every time OSU scored people would come from the sections to my left and right to pound on my Iowa jacket and yell in my face. Iowa was never in the game.
At the half I went up to the restroom and I ran into Chuck Long's Dad and little brother who is challenged. The OSU fans were abusing him. I have hated them every since.
I was back 2 years later to see Marv Cook carry 2 guys into the end zone as time expired for the Iowa win. Fire Earl Bruce shirts were already printed by the time we got out of the stadium. And he was fired on Sunday I believe.
1985 was a long time ago and I don't think my memory has faded. I have been back to 2 more OSU games since even though I haven't lived in Ohio since 1987. It's a great venue
and a fun place to party.

Agreed doughawk. Lived in OH for many years and never missed a Hawk game when they visited the horseshoe. Had the honor to be there in 91 when the Hawks prevailed in a hard fought cold evening. What a great game!
Tailgating was always a blast too, even wearing my Hawkeye colors. In all the years, I was only has hasseled once. I know many Hawk fans will say Buckeye fans are terrible, but they were always gracious hosts to me and a fun time.
And loved the Danger Brothers when they played at the Heinygate party at the old Holiday Inn with their bucket of beer. A really great game day atmosphere!

Woody Hayes dotted the 'i' on Oct 29, 1983 against Wisconsin. I was there for that game. So he didn't dot it before the '85 Iowa game....

I'd like to think that MOST Buckeye fans have evolved a lot since that game, as you never want to see any visiting fan harassed like that (except some Michigan fans). Much time and effort has been in place to make the Shoe an inviting place for all visiting fans.

Iowa got so screwed by the referees with crowd noise if Iowa would have got the same breaks Michigan got in Iowa City, Iowa would have won.

OSU96, If Woody didn't dot the I at the Iowa game in 1985 any way of finding out who did ?
I don't like to give out erroneous information. I honestly thought he did. Thanks and I'll try to find out who it was and correct my post.
