I've thought from Day 1 Iowa was a good fit for me. However, things weren't able to work out. I appreciate the opportunities they gave to me

I didn't see JRent staying when Ramos left. Add in the Lee and Teasdale commits and that was one that I figured would have been a done deal. Was probably waiting for the scholly talk. Best of luck to him.

On a personal note, sucks to lose both Latino wrestlers.

Yes sucks to lose both of these good wrestlers but heck with Lee and Tesdale I was worried from day one how all these kids could really play out for sure 2 would have to sit. Hopefully will give us more money for Berge and Warner.

From Tony Hager

Jason Renteria's top schools are Illinois, UNC, Nebraska, Mizzou and PSU.

Looking at that list and seeing PSU, that seems to me that maybe Iowa either didn't offer anything (seriously how much could PSU offer) or he's picking Tony's side that Iowa did him dirty (which is ridiculous).

Thank you.
Don't care and it shouldn't and doesn't matter.
It's about the character of the person. Stop making it about race

It may not matter to you or me, but it almost certianly matters to other young Latino wrestlers. Having a guy like Tony was no doubt a big draw for some hispanic kids and not having him around could very well influence kids' decisions. I'm not saying that's why Rentaria or Mejia decommitted, I expect it was more influenced by scholly $$, but it certianly could have been one factor in their decisions.

It's fine that fans don't care -- that's how it should be. But HS kids are looking for a place where they fit in, so having a diverse group on our campus can be helpful in recruiting. So while it's irrelevant from a rooting perspective, it is probably relevant from a strategic perspective.

On topic, for me this one hurts a little more. I'm more impressed with his wrestling, and he looked to have a better chance at going 133 or up. I saw SL, GT, and JR filling the first three spots; which would have been a sweet start.

Maybe so. But on a scale of 1-10 its about a .5 for things that really matter (or so I would hope). Should be right up there with "do I like the school mascot" in order of importance of where do I want to go to college to wrestle in 2016.

Tony Ramos came to Iowa. He seemed like he had a good time for quite awhile (as far as I know he's the only Latino kid on the roster, never really thought much about it - he's just another Hawkeye Wrestler). I suspect Mejia and Renteria would have been just fine with or without him. If Renteria had some "personal" connection, then yeah, that could make a difference. Something along the lines with Metcalf and Brands.

That said, bummer that these 2 young men that originally committed to Iowa felt the need to look elsewhere. I won't lose sleep over it because this is how recruiting goes, some come to your school that your root for, some don't. Life goes on. Good luck to the both of them wherever life takes them.

Truth.

But were talking about a whole other level at Iowa.

Sure, but it was Madrigal at 126 and Gabe Townsell at 132. Madrigal lost to Gomez by a point in the finals and JRent made the cut to 120 and won the title at 120. Most likely, he will be wrestling 132 next year.

Sounds to me like Madrigal is the guy we should/should have been recruiting.
