He called cstar out last yr and didnt come out to play. Pretty cut dry. No whining, very accurate and not stupid. Sorry you disagree. Arnold fan, bright future but no chance and keep mouth shut until your proven. Beating # 20 in OT isnt proving it. Its not confidence. Its arrogance and showboating im personally not a fan of. Jmo!
do you like kem approach or AJF is what im saying. Kem all day imo. Love arnold big talent smooth fast technical. Wish hed keep arrogance in a bit. He will be on top of podium in future but nowhere near top this yr. Act like it. Humble confidence rather than obnoxious showboating before earning it. Even after earned…..kem!
Zack Ryder will be a matchup to watch with Gabe next 3 years.
Ryder will have battles with Angelo he will be 184. I think this offseason Gabe will look to drop down to 79kg for freestyle and stay at 174 next year
Part 1: You completely missed the point, which is why I called it what it was. A true freshman said what he wanted to say. In what world do you think that true freshman could dictate to Tom and Terry who he can wrestle and when???? Again, I am absolutely 100% certain that Gabe wanted to wrestle him then and absolutely wants to wrestle him now. He just isn't the Iowa coach and is NOT the guy that makes that decision. Any argument to the contrary is 1.) Whiney 2.) Completely inaccurate and 3.) incredibly stupid....
Part 2.) Other than Metcalf, Kemerer was probably my favorite wrestler to wrestle under Brands at Iowa. If everyone could just let their wrestling do the talking, I would absolutely be fine with it. However, social media is here to stay and this generation has grown up on it. To them, it is entertainment and what Gabe did is much closer to the norm across all sports than "old school" fans can admit.
Maybe check with his coach that he’ll actually take the mat before telling someone he’s “taking their head”.
Otherwise it’s lame and cowardice. Sounds like a 7th grader saying “I’m gonna kick your ass at the flag pole!” Then not showing and saying, “my Mom said I had to mow the lawn.”

(thought i posted this about 3 pages ago when people were discussing if they would watch, but this morning i saw it sitting in draft still. posting it anyway).
As has been the case for much of the last decade and a half, Iowa has a very solid team that would even be a favorite for a national title, but PSU is an absolute monster. And to top it off, every weight where Iowa has a hammer, PSU has a guy just as good if not better
Not sure which will be the harder part of watching - watching PSU potentially dominate, or having to listen to the announcers - as my teen son would (regrettably put it) 'meatriding' the Nits all night.

Did you miss Carter calling out JB then not going that weight? Athletes call out other athletes it's been going on forever nothing new. The difference is with social media now everyone sees it

Any chance Angelo’s been working his way down to 174 for this dual? Pretty sure he said if he didn’t come to Iowa 174 would’ve been the weight he went this year…obviously no idea if he could realistically make that anymore but that would really make things interesting Friday night!
Obviously Angelo will be going against PSU and we’re just psyching them out prepping for Gabe. 4-D chess…
Throw in Cali with a little funk and catches Mess with a big pin (think Bubba Jenkins/DT)....I can dream.
Also, Luke L. is not overrated IMHO. Not saying he'll win NCAA's this year, strange things happen to good freshmen (see B.Davis last year). The kid can roll with anyone though and has some great coaching, if he has his head on straight...he can beat anyone at 125.
Kem will always be one of my favorites.
That said, (and I don't think this was you saying this), but saying Gabe should be more like Kem, just keep humble and quiet and go out and take care of business... doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Guys are different. For some, that works. Other guys do different things to get fired up and motivate themselves. I love Gabe's confidence and attitude and wouldn't want him to change.

My guess is Barr will will be staying at 197. This will allow him to continue to add good weight (he has mentioned he cuts a few pounds to make 197) while still being able to cut down to 86 kg for freestyle events. I believe wrestling 184 is less optimal for his freestyle pursuits as a cut down to 86kg from 197 seems like a better strategy than wrestling as a smaller (relatively) 86kg'er who comes up from 184 lbs. Cutting to 86 kg while wrestling 197 was successful for Nickal and Brooks. Even Hidlay bumped to 197 his senior year before competing at 86 kg.
Not a formula this time. I took a poll of people on Intermat and this is the result of the 31 answers I had to that point. Some are PSU fans, some are Iowa fans, but many are neutrals.
Hence wisdom of the crowd.
I don’t mind trash talk. Carter was over the top by a mile responding to Ferrari. Gabe sounded super cringy two years in a row calling out Carter. His voice was practically cracking.
But I see a big difference between:
(1) A 4x champ with a severe knee injury overestimating his ability to cut while hobbled but still competing at a higher weight class.
(2) a promising but ain’t-done-nothing-yet Frosh popping off and then potentially not taking the mat 2 yrs in a row.
The trash talk adds to it. Gabe should be confident in himself. A 4x National Champ should blow him off. Gives us great material to debate. Both sides: keep doing it.
Gabe missed a significant amount of mat time after the soldier salute last year. Calling it a duck is absolutely F’ing hilarious.
so cali i don't believe i have given Mr. Brown any money yet this year, what ya got for me.
