Penn State vs Iowa

I think 184 will be a bonus point win tomorrow. And that’s not a knock on Iowa at all. I think both guys at 184 are great.
I expect Stallrocci to play counter wrestling tomorrow. If Iowa plays into it like the mindless meatheads they'll turn into from time to time when its clear and obvious that Penn State's wrestlers are simply looking to score off counters and big-dumb-oaf Iowa wrestler keeps attacking and wondering how he got scored on, then yeah sure, ole champ could win by bonus...........

Did you just not read or is comprehension not your thing? Of those scores, who exactly is top tier competition? I don’t think even the biggest PSU hater here is hinting that he doesn’t fully dominate inferior completion. As far as I go, even when he does wrestle the close ones, he dominates even those as much as he can because he controls nearly all the ties, doesn’t get out of position, puts on a very hard ride and never seems to tire.

Again, it isn’t a knock. It is just an observation about how his style adjusts to his toughest competition. And I will say Brands is more of a matchup problem in that he wrestles the exact same way in neutral, but can’t keep up on the mat, so you mainly will see a 1 takedown match or a 2-1 or 2-0 type with Certer getting RT…none of which has Carter ever really been in any danger of losing. To do that, you actually have to be able to take him down and that just doesn’t happen when he is wrestling on 2 legs….
Knee him in the face, UFC style.

"Oh yeah, well I'd like to see them just try that."

Yeah, so would I.............

Gabe is a go and you make a good point about not making mistakes and allowing Stallboy to capitalize. Gabe does not do this so yeah he is the Dawg in this fight but He is going to frustrate their guy.

Just to make sure I understand correctly, you are saying the guy with four regular decision wins on the season where he scored five points or less is the more aggressive wrestler when compared to the guy with a 100% bonus rate and lowest scoring output on the season has been 10 points (against the #9 guy at the weight)?
Insert Nikki Glaser impersonating Gronk saying “Even me know you no can read good!”…

The talent level of his opponents matter to make for proper context. Don't get me wrong, Starocci may be one of the best fundamental positioning wrestlers I have ever seen. But, when he wrestle a top notch opponent, he goes back to that almost exclusively. Hold position, either wait for you to make a mistake, do his best to pound on you when you are on bottom or simply try to wear you down all the way until the second OT rideouts.

The only opponent that fits that bill this year is Parker and how many committed shot attempts did he have in regulation? How many total? Simply put, Carter's style isn't a point scoring one. That isn't a knock. In fact, I am probably the biggest fan on here of someone wrestling the way his core strengths maximize his results. That can be true, while still saying his style can be very reserved and he is "content" to win a 1-0, 2-0 match because no one can really come close to scoring on him when he wrestles that way...
Keck is the exception because he's the only one who is close enough to Starocci's level that he can't just score at will on him, but it's not for lack of effort. Again, the only time after freshman year that he wrestled that way was at nationals last year, and that was because he had to because of the injury. This year, he has MD wins against Hawks and Allred, and last year against PK and TFs against Wittlake and Incontrera. Those guys are top 15 caliber wrestlers and he wasn't just happy to win 2-0 because he could. That's ridiculous, as are most of your arguments on here, LOL.

Anyone looking for wrestling for life action? You pay $25 for each blue bonus victory. I'll pay $25 for each black and gold win bonus or otherwise. All 10 weights in play. Either way WFL and kids win.

100% bonus rate on the year, yet just stands around the whole match and stalls……wonderful logic you have
I thought he wrestled a kid from UNI and won in over time? Ya, I know it wasn't a real match. Ask both of them!!!!

lol. Top tier isn’t remotely top 15. My entire point is his style goes to how he wrestled Kemerer when he wrestles guys at THAT level. Words actually have meaning. If you are having trouble with that, as it appears you are, try referencing a dictionary before responding next time…

True for just about everyone against top guys. Gotta give Kem credit for that. Same way Nolf/Burroughs haven’t looked aggressive against Dake.

And Carter clearly has a ton of respect for Kem, his abilities and his grind.

One thing’s certain about your Gabe. His remaining regular season schedule may be the toughest ending gauntlet, facing Intermat’s #1 (Carter), #3 (Plott), #4 (McEnelly), #8 (Allred), #11 (Smith). Oh, then re-rack four of them for B1Gs. The rubber has officially met the road.
What an exciting night we're all in store for. ;)

Again, it was never meant as a knock. I even literally said that when I posted it. I was simply pointing out that Starocci's absolute best wrestling abilities are when he simply maintains great positioning while controlling the ties and wearing his opponents down. His defense and counter offense is almost on the level of what Dake was and it makes perfect sense for him to fall into that to not give his best opponents any opportunities to score. Add in how good he is at keeping people down on the mat and it IS a strategy that makes him nearly impossible to beat. He knows he almost certainly will win in OT, either by superior conditioning or rideouts..... But, you can't blame fans of the opposing teams when that style makes it very hard for them to watch when their guy loses.

I'd expect Angelo to hit at least two of those guys. He will at minimum use up his remaining dates if healthy.

I’d like to see Angelo against Plott and Sunday against #10 Jaxon Smith.
I think Gabe is a better matchup against Star than Ferrari. Wrestle Ferrari against guys he will face next year when it matters and let him learn win or lose from it. I think they split the last 4 matches.

No.

Both…. There isn’t a world at this point where Angelo isn’t a match up nightmare for anyone in the country. Young man just keeps leveling up. A very scary truth going forward for any and all opposition.
His mannerisms on the bench at duals leads me to believe he is a great teammate and fits right in at Iowa. I'm really glad Iowa didn't pass on him because of his brother's troubles.

This place is always different for about 3 weeks a year.. Honestly, it feels like being home.

Though it was more fun when it got quiet again right after because the Hawks were winning. The guests have been too emboldened for the past decade or so :)
