The talent level of his opponents matter to make for proper context. Don't get me wrong, Starocci may be one of the best fundamental positioning wrestlers I have ever seen. But, when he wrestle a top notch opponent, he goes back to that almost exclusively. Hold position, either wait for you to make a mistake, do his best to pound on you when you are on bottom or simply try to wear you down all the way until the second OT rideouts.
The only opponent that fits that bill this year is Parker and how many committed shot attempts did he have in regulation? How many total? Simply put, Carter's style isn't a point scoring one. That isn't a knock. In fact, I am probably the biggest fan on here of someone wrestling the way his core strengths maximize his results. That can be true, while still saying his style can be very reserved and he is "content" to win a 1-0, 2-0 match because no one can really come close to scoring on him when he wrestles that way...
