NYT: Matt Gaetz Target Of DOJ Underage Sex Probe

I guess it would be helpful to distinguish between lie detector tests. A polygraph is based on blood pressure and pulse. When I got my security clearance, they used a retina scan. It's supposed to be more reliable, but still isn't 100%.
It won't be able to scan my retina when I'm lying because I won't be making eye contact

No, it's a reaction to the question. That's why people can routinely beat it, and be trained to beat it. There are questions that will make me mad or anxious, raising my pulse and blood pressure, yet I still answer truthfully.

There's a reason why they aren't admissible in court. Jeesh.

There's also a reason why some federal agencies have switched to other methods.
I don't think we need to argue about the specifics of biometrics in a polygraph. I think the only thing we really disagree on is the accuracy. The idea that people have "routinely" learned to beat them by watching YouTube videos, putting pins in their shoes, etc, I find to be hogwash. They are still pretty darn accurate, but enough seed of doubt has been sown that many people have the attitude that they just don't work. There are other methods being used now (the eye-tracking method isn't a retinal scan, but that sounds pretty cool) but there's not much difference in accuracy (All seem to be in the 75-85% range, although I'd say that is an underestimate).

Peace.

Hey, I think we can agree that Gaetz is a DB, no lie-detector test needed.

😳The investigation targeting Gaetz was launched last year when Trump was still president, sources familiar with the matter have told ABC News. It’s not clear whether the White House or Gaetz were aware of the ongoing investigation at the time. Then-Attorney General Bill Barr was briefed on the investigation's progress several times, the sources said.

"The request was so outlandish, apparently, that even President Trump turned it down," Michael Waldman, president of the nonprofit Brennan Center for Justice at NYU, told ABC News.

"A blanket pardon would be extraordinary," said Waldman. "A blanket pardon to a member of Congress under investigation would have been even more extraordinary. It is an open question whether a president can give a blanket pardon in advance, since it amounts to an invitation to go forth and break the law."

The ex-girlfriend seems fun

Gaetz was criticized for allegedly showing the hula hoop video to congressional colleagues, and he was also accused of engaging in revenge porn against his former girlfriend. But two of her friends say the woman, in her early 20s, did not object to him showing it to friends — provided he didn’t send it to others or post it on social media — because she was proud of her appearance and performance.
