*****Offical 2023 Recruiting Thread*****

If Reis commits soon, I see us really going hard after Newsom and shutting down LB recruitment for the next 2 cycles.
Most of what I had previously heard suggested that Newsom has little love for the Hawks. Or, at the very least, he receives no pro-Iowa bias from his family (parent(s) have more connection to K-State ... and bro is going to Nebbers).

Eh, not really. I like Ebel and think he’s good, but I’d take Newsom and shut it down. Especially considering the expectation as of now is that Ries is committing very soon.
Ries is a class of '24 LB prospect.

Given that a number of these class of '24 LB prospects are high-level athletes, have pretty big frames, and have plenty of growth potential ... there's always the possibility that such a guy could potentially alternatively project at TE or DE.

Besides ... having good LB types is critical as it relates to the quality of our special teams play. Special teams often gives these guys some of their earliest opportunities to earn the trust of the coaches too.

To each their own, and that's fine! Ebel is tougher than nails and a tremendous athlete, and he projects very well as an LB in Iowa's system. Overall, I hope Iowa lands Ebel and Newsom - definitely make a hard push for both of them.

Iowa is in the top two with Newsom.

If Iowa misses on one or both of Ebel or Newsom then they go hard after Ohio's Arvell Reese. Who might be better than either one.

If your name is Arvell, are you required to live in Ohio?
It's been a while since I remember us last having reciprocal interest with players at Glenville.

Usually kids from there who have an offer from Ohio State go there ...

Saw they offered a preferred walk on spot to a Iowa Western WR. I am wondering now if they think some of the injuries the WRs have suffered are going to carry into the season?

Probably just as a return specialist, a la the Wetjen kid or Groeneweg a few years back.

It's Kody Case from USD, originally from South Central Calhoun. Kid can jet.

New WR and TE offers yesterday.

Reminds me of Brody Brecht

Leighton Jones already recruiting him.
