Would be great get if they can get him
Would be great get if they can get him
Boxing out is only a part of the equation. Players that get off the floor quickly and have the desire to want to rebound.
Yes, but some tough competition.Would be great get if they can get him
Exactly. The last 2 years are when most 7 footers develop.I would offer him, a guy who was highly recruited with 3 years of eligibility left. Big guys usually do develop at a slower pace.
He’s got an agenda.I question your no question if you watched Drake against Misery I think they won the rebound margin
Drake did a great job that game, I’ve said that but Missouri was tanking at the end of the season. I believe they lost 5 of their last 6 games. I don’t have any problem with the McCollum hire, I think he was the best we could get. I’m just disappointed when we can’t keep some guys from Iowa who played well for us and could help us a lot next season. As far as I know nothing is official yet, so maybe we can keep Pryce and Dix. That would be huge. He’s got an agenda.
He played behind chatfield who is really bad.I would offer him, a guy who was highly recruited with 3 years of eligibility left. Big guys usually do develop at a slower pace.
He kept one player from the previous roster when he got to Drake.Drake did a great job that game, I’ve said that but Missouri was tanking at the end of the season. He was a highly recruited 4* with 3 years of eligibility left, worth taking a chance on, just sayin. He played behind chatfield who is really bad.
Just sayin.
This guy would be a fun piece with Stirtz
I feel like we have all of them in the bag haha. We still need to get some shooters and guards that can create other than Stirtz tho. And a couple of big bodies.Thinking about the Drake guys in the portal ... if any of them were to open up their recruiting, what kind of offers do we think they could expect?
Current uncommitted Drake players in the portal:
- Cam Manyawu
- Isaia Howard
- Tavion Banks
- Kael Combs
- Joey Matteoni
I agree that most of the Drake guys will be Iowa-bound. I was just trying to get a sense of what kind of "gets" they might be. There is a tendency among fans to devalue recruits who don't also consider other P4 programs.I feel like we have all of them in the bag haha. In my mind these dudes were good enough to get to round 2 and only lose 3 games last season. They played a certain slow way because McCollum didn’t have the players to shoot. I’m hoping he gets some shooters on the team because our 3 best shooters as of now are Stirtz, Cooper, and Kingsbury hahaI agree that most of the Drake guys will be Iowa-bound. The guy Drake probably had the most trouble with in the paint was Darian Williams who's listed at 6'6.It looked to me like Refs were allowing over the back as long as there wasn't egregious contact. Harding picked up some fouls for undercutting while boxing out. Drake played Texas Tech and got beat up pretty bad In the Paint. I'd be surprised if McCollum doesn't think we need some bigger bodies than 6'8..
My brother, it's not that deep. Guys ran for a payday, simple as that. The legacy recruits stayed.Drake did a great job that game, I’ve said that but Missouri was tanking at the end of the season. Koch is a good shooter, he had offers from some of the better programs in the big10 like Purdue and Illinois. In my mind these dudes were good enough to get to round 2 and only lose 3 games last season. I think Hawk fans are excited about the new coach, but have tempered enthusiasm based on past experience of the National Coach of the Year that was in Iowa City.My brother, it's not that deep. Guys ran for a payday, simple as that. The legacy recruits stayed.
If by "best we could get" you mean the #1 coach this cycle, then you're correct. Absolute home run of a hire.
I agree, especially if he gets that medical redshirt year. Doesn’t mean we don’t need more shooters to spread the floorKoch is a good shooter, he had offers from some of the better programs in the big10 like Purdue and Illinois.
He would have been a factor last year if not for injuries.
He was way more important than Pryce IMO.
I'm hoping Stirtz is on the team next year and not in the NBA. He did say he would explore the option of moving on to the NBA.I think McCollum can coach up about any team with Stirtz leading the offense to a decent record. I'm more worried after Stirtz is gone. In the past he's redshirted a point guard to learn for a year. I hope he's putting a plan in place for that replacement.
I get it--but to be seemingly apathetic toward the hire itself and also toward player retaining after a week is a misguided IMO. Give the guy a chance to get his dudes in!I think Hawk fans are excited about the new coach, but have tempered enthusiasm based on past experience of the National Coach of the Year that was in Iowa City.
All but Matteoni would be pretty highly coveted. I’d rank them as Howard 1, Banks2, Manyewu 3 and Combs 4. Howard being the youngest and most explosive player would put him the highest on the open market. Banks is super versatile on the defensive end, can guard probably every position but pt guard. Cam is an excellent defender and physical but very limited offensively. Combs has an interesting game. 6-3 lefty guard who gets most of his points in the paint. Also very physical. All these guys are so much tougher than anyone we’ve had in awhile.Thinking about the Drake guys in the portal ... if any of them were to open up their recruiting, what kind of offers do we think they could expect?

247 has Enright as an Indiana commitIf we land Howard in addition to Combs and Stirtz...if we do get enright as a PG the guard rotation is set.
Now...need some bigs
I agree. Think it was a GREAT hire as he has been successful--rapidly--everywhere he has been. Will be interesting to see if he brings the slower pace of play to Iowa next year, or if that was just a function of his roster at Drake? Since some of the same roster is coming with him, it may well be slower than what Iowa had the last 15 years on offense, but the defensive time should be slower too (not so many matador drives to the hoop). Will be interesting to see how fans react. I think they will support it when it wins.I get it--but to be seemingly apathetic toward the hire itself and also toward player retaining after a week is a misguided IMO. Knew there was zero chance Iowa would get him247 has Enright as an Indiana commit
Honestly from everything I've read I don't know that he's that big of a loss. We'll be good!Knew there was zero chance Iowa would get him

I agree ideally you want more height but it's not just a height equation.
His system is similar to the NBA. Either 3’s or layups/dunks. Combs fits part of that mold.
Toppin was a problem in the tournament for everyone. He had 10 or more rebounds every game. Other teams did better than Drake keeping him from shooting in the paint. No the other Texas Tech guy JT Toppin was 11/13 from the field, 12 rebounds....that dude was 6'9 and pretty good leaper--he was jumping over the Drake guys and no one for Drake came close to contesting his shot.
Williams was 11/18 and 6 rebounds was a big problem also.
I would think McCollum saw that as a problem. He's going to face a lot of teams with true Bigs in B1G and it's not like MVC or Div2.

It will almost surely be a slower pace. But it doesn't have to be whiplash inducing from 80+PPG to 50+PPG.I agree.
