yep, they changed it this year

all 4 teams stay in their respective bracket

do you like the change? with the previous format, Iowa would have gotten to see a different team

No strong opinion, probably more interesting that there’s likely rematch in the semifinal making it essentially a best of 3.

I’d just want to stay away from the pool format the ACC uses.

Helluva game gotta admit I was losing faith. Man some tremendous grit and leadership all the way through!

Iowa is 9-2 since the gambling story broke (resulting in 4 players being suspended).

This team could have become distracted, could have lost focus, and could have taken a tail spin.

Instead they moved forward, players are stepping up, and they are kicking ass.

Rick has done a HELLER of a job.

I'm still not a fan of the winner take all championship game, if you're gonna go through all that trouble with double eliminations for the rest of the tournament..........

Or did they change that as well?

I'm taking credit for the win. I have watched exactly 5 innings of Iowa baseball this season, all of them today. When IU went up 4-1, I shut it off.

You're welcome. I promise I won't watch Saturday. I will watch the RPI thread though in case Iowa becomes a 2 seed.

Thread is funny. So many gave up early. As Heller said get to the bullpen. He knew. Keep it close and our guys can do it. Watched the entire game and the only frustrating part was BB having a hard tim finding the plate in the first few innings. Don’t lose faith is these guys. Scrappy group and a great Manager.

Think of it as two double elimination tournaments going on; one with Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan, and the other with Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Rutgers. The champions of each of these mini tournaments then face each other for the conference championship.

Exactly, good explanation.

I had a work reception that I had to attend and had to give up watching (although I wore a yellow Iowa baseball cap). Was watching updates vis Twitter.

As for frustrations, I think that it is also fair to say that the number of LOB and missed scoring opportunities was pretty frustrating as well. Loading the bases with no outs in T1 against Sinnard and taking a bagel was eminently frustrating.

Thoughts on format change? If prior format was in play, Nebraska would be playing Michigan for the chance to face Iowa. Indiana would be playing MSU for the chance to face Maryland.

Personally, I like it - for the very reason you described above. I hope they eliminate the cross-over games permanently.

It's certainly better than the old format that wasn't a true double elimination.

I was down when Iowa fell behind but I didn’t give up. I do the play by play for our local baseball team so I couldn’t watch the entire game. I found out Iowa won just before going live, so I had a little extra pep. Lol

I am glad Nebraska got beat, I’d rather Iowa faced Maryland anyway if they reach the championship game. It’s an RPI boost plus Iowa has better pitching.

No, give me Indiana again. They used up their top pitcher and will have to use the rest of their best to not get eliminated.
And they are w/out their TOP bullpen ace and we already ran through the rest of their pen yesterday! So...for fun, what would Iowa's pitching look like for Sunday? Pitching by committee?

Morgan - 3 IP
Brecht - 1 IP
Henderson/Christopherson? Others?

Lots of tension in that game including a lightning delay for about 2 hours, several challenges and stare downs between the teams, was pretty darn good baseball for 10 innings!

Nebraska used ONE challenge on 2 plays! There was a runner on 1st and the batter hit a grounder; i think they called both Nebbie runners out and Nebbie used one challenge and argued that the runner at 2nd and the runner at 1st were safe. I think after review, the runner at 2nd was safe but the runner at 1st was out.

Morgan would be good to go on Sunday for sure. Does Heller save Morgan for the 1st round of regionals?

I say no, get the championship!

Morgan’s bullpen day would be Sunday. 30-40 pitches of availability. He’d start and pitch 2 innings.

Need him on regular and full rest for 2/3 game on 6/2.

Put me in “Path Of Least Resistance to Sunday” and “Pitching Conservation/Management” camps.

Michigan is that path of least resistance and, should Langenberg be effective and efficient and Iowa’s bats take down Michigan’s depleted pitching, Iowa could go Morgan for 2 and then hand ball to Savary on Sunday.

I want Iowa to win the B1G tournament but, like @GolfHacker1 , I’m staring hard at that Regional championship.

I’d be stunned if IU goes scorched earth with their pitching. They have their eyes set on bigger prize and won’t burn arms simply to try to get to Sunday.
