****Official BG press conference announcement date/time prediction thread****

If they are going to do it, and I have no idea, the sooner the better. If they are not, they still need to announce Fran is coming back next year. Does no good for players, recruits and the portable opportunities to not know.
this

have the assistant coaches handle the meaningless NIT or Crown game and move on with the job search

Does anyone know when the team is coming back from Indy? That's one thing that could impact the timing of the news, if it comes today. I don't think they'd want to issue a press release when the plane is in the air. I think Beth will want to talk to Fran, let him know the decision; then make it public.

My guess is that Fran has already said his good-byes to the team, perhaps last night or today on the plane. It's not like this is going to be shocking news. Everyone has been prepared for this for quite some time.

Beth's silence is deafening, last Sunday after the Nebraska game would have been the appropriate time to go on record to say that Fran will be retained, but it's telling that nothing was said.
My opinion is the decision has been made, phone calls have been made and Beth has a coach lined up to replace McCaffery as soon as said coach has full filled his obligations with the university that he is currently employed by after the NCAA tournament.
If Iowa is indeed headed to the Crown Invitational tournament, someone on Fran's staff could coach the team if that is how it pans out.
If not then the season is over and the players can have time to decide to stay at Iowa or enter the portal on the 24th.
Life will go on and by next year Iowa basketball will again take center stage for 5 months. Coaches come and go, it's time for Fran to part ways with Iowa and start a new beginning.

Has a coach ever been fired and not coached his team in a tournament? How often has a coach been fired before post-season play? We knew it was Tom Davis' last year, but that wasn't an abrupt firing. I don't think this will be rushed. I'm sure they know the decision, but I can't see it being made public until after they finish the season and they aren't officially finished until they win a tournament, lose one more game, or get left out.

As for my prediction, there won't be a press conference. There will be a press release that Fran is returning next season to coach the team as his contract stipulates, and that will come the day after the season is finished.

Was Steve Fisher at Michigan in that situation?

I've said before that having an adequate candidate pool and vetting them is important. That doesn't mean it has to be through an officially announced search committee.
In this case, that process should have been going on in the background for months. Updated as needed as the season progressed. Then the finalists selection can move with speed as the landscape clears. Ben McC and DeVries are obvious on the surface, but there have to be others as well.

If that’s the case, you’d expect some leaks pretty soon. All the players and ancillary personnel can’t keep it to themselves very long. A roommate, friend, relative, somebody will leak it.

Team comes back today. Beth isn’t going to fire him in Indy. My guess is they have a meeting scheduled in her office after they get back and we’ll get a press release around 4:30-5:00 stating Iowa has moved on from Fran and the search for a new coach will begin immediately. Don’t expect any updates until a coach has been picked and a news conference is called.

If Beth has something in the works and she’s talking to other candidates, she’s done one hell of a job keeping it under wraps.

If not…this will be the first step back of her tenure as AD. People are ready to move on from Fran. Whether it was her or she was just the messenger most applauded Brian’s firing. She’ll lose folks if she retains Fran. It would take some balls as it would be her second dismissal in less than a year.

She was able to keep the lid on the Bluder retirement / Jan promotion. Only like 4 or 5 people in the whole department knew what was going on. She seems to have a handle on preventing leaks.

From the red dit site...
Fran McCaffery officially done at Iowa
"Beth Goetz, the Athletic Director at Iowa, has sent an email to high-level university staff that a change in leadership will occur in men's basketball - likely announced with a press release late this afternoon."

Iowa men’s basketball | Four viable candidates to replace Fran McCaffery
"With Fran McCaffery exiting his post as the head coach of the Iowa men’s basketball team after 15 seasons, it’s time for athletics director Beth Goetz to begin her search for a new head coach."

Who won the poll?

Time and Date...

A few hours after news leaked, Iowa athletic director Beth Goetz released her official statement and confirmed what had been reported.

"Fran McCaffery has been an integral part of our Hawkeye family for the past 15 years. He is a tremendous coach and teacher, and we are grateful for the positive impact he has made on the institution and the community," said Goetz. "We have a deep appreciation for his dedication to our student-athletes and his passion for the game that will have a lasting impact on our program."

They must have caught an early flight…😎

So in all of this I still haven't seen the official "Fran McCaffery has been dismissed" anywhere? BG doesn't say it directly in the above statement.
