Not a chance the AD would do a coach of 15 years like this. The players would probably refuse to play if this was the case & no one would blame them.

Players are probably going to be pissed regardless. If they are apt to refuse to play, there’s no reason to think Monday would be any better than Friday.
Besides that, who gives a rip about the Crown? If they don’t want to play, don’t make them.

It was very apparent last night that Iowa lacks physicality. Dios mio, Iowa's rebounding was beyond terrible, it was pathetic.
When I first read this, I thought it said, “…Fran’s soft and whitey teams.” 😃

Honestly, Fran should have brought Dr Tom in behind the scenes as a consultant to teach how to rebound out of a zone. Dr Tom was pretty much a strict zone guy on D, but his teams consistently ranked in the top 10 in the country in rebound margin.

It will be early next Thursday regardless of an NIT bid. News will get completely overshadowed by the tourney and spare Fran as much indignity as possible.
3 or 4 B1G teams will play in the “more prestigious” College Basketball Crown (CBC) tournament, so all the scrubs that are left will get invited to NIT. Iowa plays in one of the two. In last nights post game presser, Fran said with certainty that Iowa will be playing in the CBC, but who knows, amirite?
I am under the impression the CBC tourny has an NIL component to it where players can benefit more and more if they advance...direct pay for play. Amazing but that is the inducement that might actually be more attractive than playing in NCAA tournament for players.

That Apr 1 date is horseshit and I have no idea where it came from, except that it is mentioned as a hypothetical termination date in this article from January. Fran would be owed 60% of his remaining salary starting the day he is terminated (mitigated by his new salary should he land another job), so the sooner they can him the better.

On Monday, we want the story to be about the seeding for the women's team, and their chances of making a deep run. You don't want to take that headline away by announcing a coaching change then. You want to have the coaching change already announced.
Also, I believe the NIT/Crown invites will come out on Monday? If so, I would think you would want to be able to make a decision about whether or not you can accept that invite without the uncertainty of the coaching decision still hanging over your head.
There's no reason to keep players, assistant coaches, and Fran himself on pins and needles all weekend. If you've made a decision, make it public.
