***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

Which is crazy. Accounting for like 60% of their points the last few games, carrying a load that nobody in the entire league is doing and playing 38 minutes. And some of you are also expecting her to shoot 45% from 3.
I just want to see her make one while I'm watching the game...............

Haven't seen her make one live since the game against the Mystics, and I only saw one of the 5 she made. :(

Btw in her last 7 games, not including her 0-7 in the All-Star game) she's shooting 17-75 from 3 (22.7%).

Also by the way..........you're not going to tell me anything I don't already know about why she is struggling or what she is going through, in your reply.

Hope that helps! :)

During the in-game interview, Clark made a comment about a couple of her 3-pointers being half way down (paraphrasing). Well, that's always going to be an issue when your 3-pointers come from several feet behind the line. You are not going to get many "kind rolls" from that distance. It's OK to have one or two of those bombs per game, but Sides and Clark need to find a way to get her more looks a little closer to the arc.

This is going to require a combination of better screens, better movement off the ball from Clark, and Mitchell/Smith occasionally making a pass.
Which she did when she got 24 and 19. This is is uncharted territory for both CC and Sides. Clark has been probing a lot more than she did at Iowa and usually she ends up with a great pass to a teammate for a layup or wide open shot. We’re just not used to her getting this many assists. But she’s absolutely playing the right way. Unless you want her to get 40 pts and 20 assists. Which isn’t really a thing. Yet.

So what’s your point? Because as usual you’re the only I’m sure who actually understands what you’re saying.

CC is really in a shooting funk. Counting last night and the two previous regular season games, she is just 4 of 23 from 3-point range. What has happened to her shot?
I really thinks she’s shot conscious. In college if she missed 6-7 in a row, she still hunted shots 7-8.
Now she’s too conscious of others shot attempts and is thinking too much when she shoots.

This exactly. When there is a large narrative of outside noise calling you a "chucker," at some point it is going to rattle your vibe. Clark needs to make 1 of her first 4 to feel good. That's been going on since March.

So what you’re saying is, the missed shots are nothing to do with the shooter? So last nights misses were on Miller?
Never even came close to saying that. It takes a certain kind of coach to coach a shooter and Sides isn’t it….that’s all I’m saying. I was a shooter…I shot lights out for my tournament team because I was expected to play that way and had free rein. Not so much on my high school team because we played a much more controlled and slow down type of game. I didn’t forget how to shoot when I played on the high school team, I just didn’t feel as comfortable missing shots and I would become more hesitant to shoot after I missed a couple. The coach and the style of play affects how a shooter shoots….that’s what I’m saying.

I totally agree, but she is a first year pro developing team chemistry. Dawn Staley, Geni, hell even Kim Mulkey wouldn’t let her walk on the court and just start launching shots. So she has to learn how to get comfortable.

Pushing her to shoot more. Sending mix messages is not giving her the green light. In the press conference she says she wants Clark to shoot more, then tells at her to pass in the games. Then she puts Wheeler in and tells Clark to go stand in the corner. Not exactly a bright green light.
Stop

To my recollection, Sabrina (and Kelsey Plum) have never been a part of the mean girls pack.
With the exception of Carter and a couple other notable WNBA players, the “mean girl” shit is way overblown IMO.

Rookies always get the rough treatment. I will acknowledge that Clark has recieved a little xtra special “treatment” so far but that is a collective recognition of her special talent. She has handled it very well.

I think the speculation is what happens if either the players or owners elect to opt out of the CBA after the 2025 season & how the new TV deal affects contracts & the salary cap among other things.
With current league wide sally cap TOTAL <$20 million on a $60 mil tv contract, you can guarantee they will blow up CBA when new broadcast deal is ~$250 mil per. However, that would not invalidate contracts.
But, I cannot see any way they keep the provision that prevents renegotiation during a contract.

To add to Cowherds point about CC being one of the best PLAYMAKERS.... You can bet your a$$es that there are more than a few team USA players that would like her on the USA team, because CC is such a great passer and facilitator. She isn't going to become a ball hog chucking shots on a talented team like that.

I suppose we should also remember that it isn't necessarily ALL the team USA players that don't want CC on the team. Heck, maybe most of them would like to play with her.

It's the leadership that is clueless on the whole situation and fumbled majorly. But their abundance of talent will most likely win gold and they'll continue to pat themselves on the back for a job well done. LOL

This. Those that have played the game understand this very well. Confidence, comfort…call it whatever you want plays a bigger role in basketball shooting than probably anything else in any sport. It’s not just tired legs, otherwise she would make more of the earlier attempts and miss more towards the 4th.

Just 2 gals with Nike shoe deals.

I think there is a great deal of MUTUAL respect there. Sabrina is probably the only player even in the W, who can facilitate and score anything like Clark . I do think over time CC will even surpass her, but they have the most similar game, so NO I don't see them playing together. They're almost unicorns compared to the rest of the league. To many bigger needs for Clarks team then to have the one woman who is almost the same player, (although I think Clark is an even more revolutionary passer then SI)....

I'm pretty sure by this point they've all realized her talent. And she's done it by passing rather than scoring. The pace she pushes game in and game out (All star game included) gets her teammates so many easy shots. Sabrina, while probably a little better overall player than CC right now, is nowhere near the playmaker she is. Now it probably won't matter as the women's game hasn't caught up to the mens game yet, but even if CC came in and gave 15 minutes of pushing the pace w/the 2nd unit it would be incredible to see. While extremely talented they were/are missing a true distributor of the ball.

The mean girls aren't just the players, they are the establishment inclusive of some players, some coaches (professional and collegiate), some selection committee members, and some press. I would submit that rather than "a little xtra special 'treatment'" she has received unprecedented "special" treatment.

While I'm not per se disagreeing with you, because I don't know, but my impression is that it's not so much a recognition of her special talent that led to the "treatment", as you put it, but either/and 1) a jealousy thing and/or 2) while she's coming in as "all that", she's not going to come into this league and show these grown ass women how it's done, rather she's going to need to get knocked back a peg to show her how it's going to be. That's what I meant by "mean girls".

That's changed in the span of 26 games. Even Taurasi, who was a leader of the grown ass women back at the time of the Final Four has been converted. Funny thing, Caitlin never said she was "all that", quite the opposite. JMO.

If she had played for those coaches in college, I doubt she would have even been drafted. They would have tried to force her to fit into their system because that’s all they know. It takes a flexible coach to coach someone like Clark.

She'd have been drafted. Not the first pick, but her talent is undeniable. Even on those teams she certainly wouldn't have led the nation in scoring three years, but she'd probably have averaged double didget assists...
