***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

These individuals trying to make a case for Angel are incredibly stupid. As you can see below, Sabreena Merchant argues that Angel has been more impactful for team success, which is a crock of sheet.

David is a beat writer for 24/7. What got cut off in his tweet below: No player in the league is being guarded like CC. And she generates more points than any player in the league.

Somewhere in this thread it’s been posted that barring disaster, Caitlin should breeze past Thomas’ single season record this year, and starting next season, should routinely be hovering in the range of 400 per each year. And given those productivity expectations, again assuming she remains healthy, Caitlin could conceivably break Sue Bird’s career assists record in as few as 8 seasons (and realistically, no more than 9), a record that it took Bird 19 seasons to achieve.
Before Joes Place jumps into this thread I will point out that there are differing numbers of games played in many years so the per game average is really the standard. First season in 1997 was 28 games, then it went to 30, then 32 for a few years, then 34 for many years, then 22, 32, 36, 40 and 40.

It's important to note that people like this woman are not journalists, despite the label. No, that would take some investigation and research. She is no different than anyone of us, she just spouts opinions. She somehow found her way into a larger platform, that's all. Frankly, I doubt she could hold up in any discussion on these forums.

I didn't know that Indianapolis is nicknamed The Circle City.

For other dummies: it derives from the circular street and the park within located in the heart of Indy's downtown. At its center sits the very tall monument (Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument) which, of course, is shown in the intro to many Fever home games.

Joe probably needs to stay away from sports threads for awhile.

Duly noted.

I’m gonna lowball Caitlin at a career average of 8.5 per game (I’d put money on the over on that line, btw, but just for the sake of a number, let’s go with that).

At that average, she breaks the career record in 10 (maybe not quite, because Vandersloot probably breaks it first, so CC’s target will be wherever CV finishes). Give CC 15 seasons and her number ends up at 5100. And I think that’s on the very low end.

More Lexie ..

I'm not even sure if this is from this year, I don't remember it.

But my thought is given the way the offensive player is allowed to barrell into the defender in the WNBA, this is the way to play it. Seems if you try to avoid a foul the refs interpret this as an admission of guilt or something. Jonquel Jones plowing into KLS comes to mind. Samuelson slapped at the ball once, probably cleanly, while falling backwards but was, ofc, whistled. Make a muscular play instead, imo, as that is what the establishment W gets excited about and allows for.

Of course, this is all predicted on the willingness to stick your chin in there like Lexie does 🤷‍♂️.

She's expensive(212k cap hit this season) and she doesn't really fit into the future of what the Fever are going to be. Fever are not going to be an isolation team as long as Clark is there, they're going to be a screening, cutting, ball movement team if they get a coach who knows how to run an offense.

As for Kelsey, she's a good shooter that is lightning quick and brings good energy. But is also a ball hog on offense and short plus not good on defense. Those problems don't pair well with Clark in the guard court.

She's not going to be a backup, so I don't expect her to sign with Indiana. What will be interesting to see is what teams out there wanted her. Indiana, being a poorly ran franchise, had to overpay to keep her after her rookie contract. Other, better ran, franchises won't offer that much money for a player that isn't good at defense and barely passes the ball.

With Wheeler coming off the books at the end of the season, if they let Mitchell go too that frees up a huge amount of money(>400k) to go after free agents. They might have to overpay on someone, but they could bring in a 3rd star to pair with Clark and Boston. I'm thinking an SG that can play defense or a defensive big that can play next to Boston. And then look for a veteran PG that can play backup minutes to give Clark some more rest.

Do you trust the Fever GM, head coach and team owner to make the right off season moves? No right or wrong answer.

2016: Last time the Fever made the playoffs.

Nov 4, 2022: Christie Sides was named Head Coach (her first job as a WNBA head coach). Sides was a former Fever assistant who brought more than 20 years of professional and college coaching experience.

June 1, 2023: Lin Dunn entered her first season as the full-time general manager Dunn is now 77-years-old.
