***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

Think of the synergy once Clark decided to go to Iowa. #22 is her number but its been THE number for several great Iowa womens point guards. (No more though, sorry ladies). If I'm not mistaken didn't Sam Logic and Kathleen Doyle both wear #22?
Outside of basketball, don't forget the greatest Iowa player of all time Tavian Banks.

Sure, BUT my point was that #22 WAS the number worn by great points guards for Iowa women for quite sometime, but no more as that number will be retired, and this almost never happened as CC was originally committed to Catholic U and the fainting Irish.....

I understand your point and it is valid. It was a joke. Kind of.

No joke though. Tavian Banks was a GREAT RB. Another of several who played in the Quad Cities back in the day. I played against Curtis and Roger Craig when they were at Davenport Central. Roger was one of the best backs I've ever seen play. High school, college or pro. He was amazing, and a pretty good dude.

Good dude, except for the whole Nebraska thing.

I played with tavian so I’m biased. Also played against Dwight.

When Craig graduated high school Iowa was still mired in the Commings program.

I read once that Craig said he would have gone to Iowa had Hayden already been there. Thankfully, I guess, it's not so easy for Nebraska to poach kids anymore.
I heard him say that as well, and we just missed him. Roger was a year behind me, so he graduated in 1978, so he would have been a freshman at Nebraska in the 78 season. Hayden was hired after that season I believe. He was special.....

Roger Craig graduated from Central in 1979.

You are correct sir. I was thinking about his last year being 1978, but that was his last SEASON. He would have graduated in the spring of 1979. I still remember listening to his last game on the radio. I think they were playing Dubuque in state playoff game (a game Central lost) and he had something like 350yds and 4 or 5 Td's. He was a man amongst boys..

When the season resumes and football is ready to take off, I fear they will struggle to put the lightning back in the bottle.
I suspect we’ll see record level in-person/television draws for CC and the Fever, and pretty much nobody following anyone else. So basically the same as it’s always been.

I suppose CFB/NFL could dip into CC’s audiences just a bit. It’s possible. It would be impossible to tell if there were any impact on the rest of the league, however. Not enough baseline signal to draw a distinction from noise.

More Davenport Central props ... Jim Jensen went to Central. Played at Iowa between '72 -'75. Pretty darn good athlete at 6³" 230 lbs. with a 4.4 40. Was the 40th pick in the '76 draft.

Enough with the Olympics. Game this Friday against the Mercury. Hopefully Caitlin picks up where she left out, and this extra practice time as a unit will help them power to a winning record over the last 14 regular season games.

Mercury have back to back games Thursday and Friday against the Sky and Fever. Good to see other teams having to deal with schedule headaches like the Fever started out with.

Friday/Sunday the Fever have home games vs Phoenix and Seattle. This is a great opportunity to beat two top-half teams at home. At the very least, they need to win one of them. Oddly, the Fever played Seattle very close, in Seattle, the first time they played, but the last two have been blowouts, including one in Indiana. I hope the Fever learned how to play defense and hold onto the ball during the break.

The Fever have a lot of winnable games after the break. The only top team they play on the road, for the rest of the season, is Minnesota. They have a 6-game stretch of home games at the end of the season. Frankly, the Fever have no excuse for not making the playoffs with their schedule. That said, they also had no excuse for losing to the Mystics and Wings before the break, but they did.

Yes, but DT and BG will be well rested after barely playing in the olympics.
Still not sure why BG didn't play more yesterday. She seemed like a sure bucket when she touched the ball. I know the announcer mentioned at one point you could get her away from the basket on defense and then drive back against her. But having Reeve notice that seems to give her too much credit.

She shouldn't have left the lane on defense. Really bad coaching.

Not that you meant camp there, but is there defensive three seconds in the lane in the Olympics?

(I know, I wasn't interested and now I'm asking questions about it 🤦‍♂️)

I said they needed BG more. She dominated and led the USA on a mini run while she was in. She was too tall to be blocked and knew not to bring the ball down low to avoid France trying to steal or tie up the ball.

I still say she’d be great to pair with Clark.

I'm going to the game Friday, was at the last Phoenix@Indy game as well as we live in Indy. Will be interesting to see how the Fever look after the break and the regular season 2/3 over. If they make the playoffs I don't see any way CC loses ROY. She should be in the top 3 or 4 of the MVP discussion.

Agreed that is how it should be, but I see a way CC loses ROY. Hopefully the obvious choice is made, but we've heard the narrative from influential women associated with the wnba, from college basketball players, top incoming college basketball recruits, etc. There are a lot of people that want AR to get that award. Nothing is going to surprise me.

From Saturday's game.

Note that Yankees players were star struck. Think about that for a sec.

Cheryl Reeve and Sheryl Swoopes and Monica McNutt and Dawn Staley upon seeing that clip...

Its like that footage of her going to the Chiefs game over the holidays. The PLAYERS were seeking HER out for selfie ops. Chris Jones sought her out. Dude makes 35 million $ a year. She goes up to the broadcast booth and Romo and Endberg are taking selfies with her. Romo says, "oh your that basketball player", and Endberg says, "NO, she's a legend".
