***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

Shooting a floater doesn't get you to the foul line. In this league getting knocked down on a layup won't get you there either.
a light bump/touch on a layup might though. It is insane to me how inconsistent refs have been when I’ve watched. I’m generally okay with some contact, as I think too quick of a whistle just slows the game down. But on one trip down the lightest contact gets the whistle, and on the next full contact doesn’t.

Too lazy to look, isn't she like the 2nd leading scorer in NCAA WBB history? Also, she is 5'5" which is probably why she was drafted so late and then cut.
3rd, she passed Mitchell by 1 point I believe. saw some social media comments complaining they couldn’t cut Martin because of the CC/Iowa connection 🤣 couldn’t possibly be because Kate is just a better overall player

I just read up on her and the Ace's statement was she could score but defense was lacking.

If this doesn't get better, she won't stay in the WNBA for long.

She will get into coaching.
Great players don't always make great, or even very good, coaches. Their natural ability, their competitiveness, their work effort can make it hard for them to teach/coach/understand players of lesser ability and drive. Nothing is absolute, and I have no idea if this is something she'd want to do. I agree with others, I don't see her quitting playing basketball until she's wrung every ounce out of herself playing the game. From everything I've seen and read, she simply loves playing basketball.

The refs are really inconsistent. There is just no rhyme or reason as what is a foul from play to play, let alone game to game.

It’s almost like rough physical play is encouraged, there’s the commercial where they show all these women knocking the crap out of each other where the commissioner is talking. It’s so stupid. The NBA realized after those Knicks/Pacers/Pistons games where teams were scoring 80 points in the finals ratings were terrible. WNBA needs to do the same. Call the game the way the NBA does.

Odd take. Pointing out something as a problem doesn't mean you are blaming everything on that problem.
No, but that seems to be the immediate go-to for many people. She had plenty of turn overs at Iowa too, #3 in the country. Comes with pushing the ball.

You are conflating 30 different people.
Two different teams and rosters, yes. High turnovers both places. What’s the common denominator? Doesn’t mean she’s not a great player but turnovers are part of the package. That’s pretty clear. People on other teams drop passes too.

If Berger and Taylor are trade bait, wouldn't you think the Fever would want to play them to show what they can do? It is not like they are proven but injury-prone veterans.
Just relaying what Mrs. spider (no pic) has been seeing recently, and she’s way more plugged into this sh!t than I am right now. Agree that you might want to showcase, but also see the hesitation to risk injury. They did both get garbage minutes in Vegas, though, so who TF knows.

Oh I agree that she does turn the ball over more often than blackholes who don't pass. The price of facilitation. As part of the facilitation, I think it is fair to criticize those touting themselves as grown ass women in the W for not catching passes, and not converting passes.

Man you’re not giving up on the “leave Caitlin alone” angle are ya. Her turnovers are high because some players don’t pass enough and others can’t catch. ok.

She’s makes some great assists and she also throws the ball away sometimes. Why is it so hard to accept that.

The criticism she is receiving is probably valid as she does turn the ball over, often on dumb passes or terrible ball handling. It is also true that they don't necessarily talk about the lack of focus, movement, or ability to catch/shoot the ball by her mates is a cause of some of her TO's.

Bluder also said "you don't pull up on the reigns of your thoroughbred ".

Do the Yankees tell the press that Aaron Judge needs to work on his bunting to drive runs in?
I've always say "you don't hitch a wagon to a racehorse" and then I remember the trotters.....

Again you are conflating me with 30 different people. I have said she turns the ball over and I have said she has things to work on. I am also unsure why you are having a hard time comprehending that.

That is that point that I believe most of us are making.

She was damn impressive with Syracuse.
Agree. I only saw her a few times but was quick as hell! I'm sure her size is what is the issue. She's tiny, but in college, nobody could stay with her. Now that she's playing with GAW (grown ass women), it's an issue.

CC has 44 TOs so far this year.

I can recall at least twice she’s had her pocket picked and given up the transition layup. Maybe 3 times?

She’s had one where she stepped on the sideline carelessly (is it just me, or do W players do this A LOT).

She’s had several careless passes either trapped up top/sideline or trying to feed the post. I remember at least one behind-the-back in the paint in particular that was ill advised.

She’s had a couple offensive fouls. She had one brain fart travel where she picked up her pivot foot right after crossing half court, and she had a bullsh!t travel called in the lane last night.

She’s had A BUNCH of mishandled passes by teammates that resulted in CC TOs.

She has 50 total assists on the season.

Let’s say hypothetically that just 30% of those TOs were get aheads or post feeds that if handled properly and finished could have turned into assisted baskets. That would be about 1.6 per game which might actually be conservative. Note that in this hypothetical, 70% of her TOs are still “her fault.”

Convert those 30% and she’s now averaging 8.0 assists and 3.9 turnovers. A 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Does she still need to improve and adjust to faster W defenses? Absolutely.

Could she use some more help from her teammates in this regard? You bet.

2022 #4 Emily Engstler WAIVED
2022 #6 Lexie Hull RESERVE
2023 #1 Aliyah Boston starter
The GM and the head coach should be fired. Pure incompetence by both.

I missed the T call, what happened there? CC22 chirping?

1. By my count ( and I missed basically the 4th Q) Wallace had at least 3 missed wide open looks off passes from CC22.
2. It isn't just Mitchell missing layups, it's the whole team. Hell, CC22 had at least 2 missed layups.
3. Sides seems to be rather clueless, especially when it comes player rotations.

A lot of good stuff in this thread, especially about CC22 and her lack of a total game. She mentioned post game that she is indecisive when she drives to the hoop which has led to a bunch of TO's. I will guarantee that next season, she will have that mid-range game and she will be a WHOLE lot better.
People forget, she had basically NO off season, and almost no practice time with her new team mates, after playing almost FOUR years with the same girls around her in college. All things considered, (including the intense scrutiny she's under), I'd say she's doing remarkably well.
