Agreed. They need to bring in a new assistant coach who specializes in defense. If they tightened up their defense they would be TOUGH to beat for any team in the league.

The interesting part of this is Christie Sides is a defensive coach specialist. Defensive coaching is how she has made a living and moved up to bigger and bigger coaching jobs.

Part of the trade off of playing high tempo basketball is you are going to look worse defensively.

Why? I get it that if you are run and gun long rebounds can lead to easy baskets going the other way. But, once you are back on defense in a half-court offense, I feel to see why they cannot play good defense, unless you are saying they don't have sufficient energy to do both.

Running teams have for the most part always given up more points than half court teams. Not saying you can’t play half court defense, just think if you are pushing pace you are going to find yourself out of position a bit more…and needing to take it easier on defense to conserve energy.

Iowa last year gave up lots of points…but time after time when a game was on the line they looked like a team that specialized in defense.


Either way just my opinions on what I have seen going back the ultimate running team, Loyola Marymount.

Would have loved to seen Paul Westhead build an offense around Caitlin

I don't remember what it was, but early in the season Sabally said something nice about Caitlin when few other players were. She got some all-star votes from me even though she wasn't playing.

I was impressed with her interview the other night after the game when she said it sucked seeing all the Clark jerseys but kudos. She seems real classy and a team player like Boston.

You guys may not like everything Smith does, but she does some things really really well. There are trade-offs with most every player.

And don't forget, teams need a necessary balance of star opportunity/ego. You can't just bring in a marquee player and expect it to work without some bumps.

Caitlin is the 5th WNBA player to have multiple triple-doubles in a season.

On Wednesday, Clark made four 3-pointers, putting her at 102 treys for the season. She is the quickest to reach 100 3s in WNBA history, doing so in her 34th game.

This is the first time the Fever have won at least five games in a row since a six-game winning streak during the 2015 season, when they went to the WNBA Finals before falling to the Minnesota Lynx.

Indiana is now 7-1 since WNBA play resumed following the Olympic break. The Fever's only loss during that stretch was Aug. 24 at Minnesota, which is Indiana's next opponent, on Friday in Indianapolis.

Wednesday's game was Clark's third in a row with at least 20 points and 10 assists, which is tied with Courtney Vandersloot (for Chicago in 2017) for the longest such streak.

Overall, Clark has 7 games with at least 20 points and 10 assists. That is a WNBA single-season record and is already 3rd on the WNBA career list behind Vandersloot (10) and the Phoenix Mercury's Diana Taurasi (9).

Clark has scored or assisted on 224 points in the Fever's five-game win streak, which is yet another WNBA record. Previously, that mark was 220 by Taurasi in 2006, her third season in the league.

Remember just a couple month sago everyone felt she should be FIRED.
It just took a while for her and the team to figure out Caitlin's style of play to fit together.
Seeing the results now is eye opening compared to 2 months ago. IMO

I think part of Sides challenge was finding their best starting lineup. Wallace and Samuelson were starting at the beginning of the season and are now riding the bench.

Collier has been a real problem for us. I suppose with the law of averages Temi can be healthy and be able to guard her. otherwise, it's going to take more heroics from Batman and Robin in the backcourt.
