***Official Caitlin/Fever/Kate/Meg Games Mega Thread***

Wheeler is a free agent making 200k plus (2nd to KM). You only protect her if you plan to pay her. OR if you are trying to encourage them to pick smith.
Dantas and Fagbenie are the right answer.
GS can only select 1 free agent total, so the question would be, is Wheeler the BEST free agent unprotected in the League?
Wheeler would make a nice veteran PG on a new team that’s going to struggle.

Does the lottery pick for the WNBA occur before or after the expansion draft? If GS ends up getting the first pick, they’d choose Buekers I’m sure. If not, they’d probably draft some bigs and need a veteran PG.

Who are the 6 the Fever are going to protect? The top 4 are obvious:

Clark
Mitchell
Boston
Hull

I think the next two are one of these three:

Wheeler
Dantas
Fagbenle

IMO Smith will be unprotected and drafted by Golden State.
Not sure if you can protect free agents like KM or Wheeler.

Clark, Boston, and Hull are no brainers. I’d protect Dantas and maybe Berger since she’s young and cheap. Otherwise I’m hoping Smith and KLS get picked up to clear out roster spots and cap space.

JMO but here's the 6 protected players.

Clark
Boston
Hull
Fagbenle
Dantas
Mitchell? Will she be retained? Free Agency and Max Contract. Disaster if not. Let's see.

I don’t see anything on here that says they can’t. As mentioned above, GS can only choose 1 unrestricted free agent though. They can’t double dip either, meaning they can only choose one player off of each team.

Interestingly, it says they can make deals with other teams once they see the protected lists. There could be some interesting trades once the lists are out.

Correct answer would be Clark, Mitchell, Boston, Hull, Dantas, Fagbenle. I think we see Smith taken by Golden State (who I think also gets Meg). The Fever then need to draft a power forward, a backup point guard. and a backup shooting guard.

Non-Caitlin games saw an average attendance of 8,530 vs. overall league average of 6,615 last year, or a 29% increase, so there was a bump. This was driven mostly by NY (+57%) and LA (+62%) and their associated large venues, however. Most franchises saw a modest 8-16% or so increase (non-CC games). Connecticut saw a 34% increase, but this corresponds to only about 1.200 people (arena capacity of about 9,000).
I have no facts to back this up but I would venture to guess that the "Caitlin Clark effect" got a good majority of those 29% people to notice the WNBA and in turn show up to their local team's games. As much as I despise her, Angel Reese probably accounts for part of that as well.

My point is that if Angel and CC aren't in the WNBA this season, viewership is about flat.

That was Christine Brennan’s point about putting her on the Olympic team. People tune in to see Caitlin, but that can have the effect of sparking interest in women’s basketball in general. From this information, it appears she was correct. But she’s persona non grata these days, so she’ll get no credit.
Obviously, the single largest driver of that +49% was Caitlin’s in-games (Fever games alone account for about 20% of the total increase). I suspect, based on the data, that NY/LA numbers were boosted based on coastal trendsetters showing that it’s “cool” to go to W games now.

Beyond that, I imagine you have factors like the rookie class (including AR), strong seasons by teams like Seattle and Conn (interestingly, Lynx attendance was barely up from last year), and the “indirect” CC effect, as you mention.

Here's Megyn Kelly getting into the fray. You will kindly forgive her if she refers to Connecticut as the Suns and later as Connecticut STATE, lol. WTH, she's pretty hot (she has pretty privilege).

In responding to Brennan, Carrington said "Like I just told you I didn't even know I hit her so I can't laugh about something I didn't know happened."

Wait a minute, you - despite giving CC a black eye - STILL didn't know about her injury even after Caitlin went to the floor, the game was stopped and Caitlin hobbled to the sideline holding her eye?

Everything about her response is off.

When you read the WNBAPA's response to Brennan didn't you think this rambling disjointed rant must have been written by some overheated player who sat on the Association's board, or something?

Noooo, as Kelly pointed out, this was written by a Terri Carmichael Jackson, the Executive Director of the Association. She is a lawyer, a University lecturer, and sits on a couple of boards.

Jackson's ignorance is stunning. Who does she think this Christine Brennan is? For decades CB has been at the forefront of championing women's sports and all the social causes the WNBA actively supports.

FFS, Brennan is basically one of your own, PA. But CB dared to ask a question ... kinda like reporters do. Does the PA not recognize this equally afforded Carrington the opportunity to speak, and a chance clear her name? She didn't, ofc, but that's on her and not Brennan.

Again, the Caitlin Clark Show and the fans deserve so much better.

Agree on who gets kept. For acquisition, don't forget about free agency. It will be interesting to see who wants to hitch their wagon to Caitlin's star, and who does not.

The WNBA went after Brennan who is "so woke she can barely sleep." FYI not my phrase but I wish it was. That should tell you something about the leadership of that league.

So I see that for the expansion draft teams can protect a maximum of six players on their roster. What are your predictions for Megan and Kate? I think Meg goes unprotected and is taken by Golden State Valkyries. I think Kate is unprotected and untaken. Anyone think otherwise?
Unfortunately for Kate I see this to be true. This is actually a great opportunity for Megan. The team is going to suck but she should get every chance to prove herself night in and night out. And being a new franchise in the Bay area would guess the home crowds would be pretty big every night, at least for the first year.

I don't need to ever watch Megyn Kelly say anything. She's ridiculous.
Why? Just because you don't like her politics does not mean she isn't spot on with plenty of her commentary. And maybe if you did take the chance to hear other perspectives it might open your eyes a bit on what you're being fed. You felt the same way about Jason Whitlock and he was 100% correct on how Clark was going to be treated when she entered the league.

She's flat out gotten facts wrong time after time (as was pointed out about this video). She's intellectually lazy and has drifted from journalism to reactionary clickbait. Won't waste my time with her either, when there's far more informed commentary from people who actually know basketball.

So she called the team the "Suns" and then admits she knows nothing about sports - OK. And she is not always wrong time after time. And again, just because you don't agree or like what she says does not make her wrong. Could it possibly be you that is wrong? God forbid maybe your set of facts have been presented in a slightly altered manner. Refusing to even listen to someone who may have another point of view on issues totally irrelevant to this particular topic is what is wrong with our country right now.

Um, no. This is an atrocious record for someone who was once a prominent journalist. Many objectively false statements she's made. It's why her platform has been greatly diminished. Here's her hat-trick of blatantly false statements to the public that earned her censure at with her employers....

I think you accurately described any political podcaster, of either stripe. People find it preferable to hear what they want to hear. Political podcasts thrive in that echo chamber, and the podcasters don’t care about convincing the other side of the debate, just providing the ear candy to those who hold the same beliefs. It is about gotcha points (which never change anyone’s mind) not actual discourse. That’s what people want so a market is being served. For better or worse.

Keep making my point - Politifact has a clear left leaning bias. Maybe check who advertises with it too. If that is all you take in - I understand why your knowledge is limited.

Very simple question for you - do you believe Joy Reed, Rachel Maddow, and Morning Joe provide factual information?

LOL. They won the Pulitzer Prize for journalism, you've been brainwashed by propagandist to hate them because they fact check your cult leader. Reporting on objective FACTS is not a political pursuit, and they've done so on both sides. It's not their fault one party's leader is a serial liar. It's not like either side had traditionally a monopoly on truth. Sorry, they don't give out Pulitzers for biased reporting. But keep bleating the line like a good little sheep man.

Exactly. She's the white Sheryl Swoopes.

Not always. Are they what I would call respected journalists? No. Do they have a better track record than Megyn Kelly? Yes, and it's hard to argue otherwise. Would I share their opinions on Caitlin Clark here, as was the point of this whole discussion? Hell no.

Now that we're in the offseason it will be interesting to see what changes happen with the officiating program. The WNBA is going through a lot of growing pains as they move out of the obscurity they've been living in for 25 years, but the quickest way to improve the on-court product will be to bring in referees who understand basketball. I'm pretty sure up until now they've just been using the guys they hire to put the courts together.

"They" are more respected and have a better track record than Megyn Kelly is a joke. They all blatently lie daily and are paid propagandists. Enough of that. If you did not even listen to what she had to say about CC - how would you know it was false? Are you simply that afraid that you might actually agree with her?

Just remember, the Hunter laptop, stating that the inject bleach and Charlottesville comments were edited, Biden's mental decline, reported new jobs, violent crime statistics, etc. and most recently that murderers and rapists were being released into our country through illegal immigration, were all considered "lies" at the time. One by one those who were called liars were proven to be in fact correct. Just keep on telling people something ( ie. calling people liars) and soon enough it will be believed as truth - wonder who it was who said that?

IMO I do not hold much hope for the wnba to change in any significant way until they are under new management. They are run by a bunch of petty racist people who do not have a clue how to run a real business that has to make a profit to exist. They are so ignorant they promote violence (physical play) in their commercials. They do not have a clue how to leverage arguably the best women's BBall player in the history of BBall. wnba is incompetent and is trash IMO.

Good grief. I am a tolerant individual but I have limits.
Off topic board is the place for your political BS! I get enough of this BS in commercial breaks to last a lifetime!!
Took the words out of my mouth (or my fingertips). My recent post was on the folly of these back and forths. You put a finer point on it as it pertains to this taking place on this board. There is a place for that to occur, it’s just not here.

You understand it all has to do with a poster not willing to look and/or listen to something that is very much relevant to this thread because of who she is, right? That was my point the entire way. And there are plenty of back and forth pissing matches that go on here - just keep flipping through if you don't like it.

I dunno ... maybe I shouldn't have posted Megyn Kelly, knowing the climate here 🤷‍♂️.

OTOH I thought there's hardly a thing any of us could disagree with what she or her guests said.

Sorry if I mucked things up a li'l. BUT (there's always a "but") maybe some posters could have ignored the source???

Anyway, let's all hold hands like the Swarm and maybe throw in a Kumbaya?

To all of you people arguing about Megyn Kelly...

I think it'll just take time. There's too much potential money at play for the old guard to be able to stop new stakeholders from coming in and kicking them to the curb. They already know its happening but since they have no leverage all they can do is whine and complain in a weak attempt to maintain their place. Money always wins. Nike's not going to care about letting a bunch of old WNBA dipshits keep their fiefdoms.

No one has time for your "doesn't provide evidence" and "invents strawmen" ignorant ass around here. No, those paraphrases don't take away the massively stupid crap he says. Now stop bringing political garbage commentators like Megyn Kelly on here and further ruining your credibility. Just. End. It. That's the point multiple people tried to make to you. Done.
